  • John Smith is a British artist and filmmaker. Inspired by conceptual art and structural film, since 1972 Smith has made over 40 film, video and installation works, that have been shown internationally in galleries, cinemas and on television.
Often rooted in everyday life, Smith’s films playfully explore the language of cinema by subverting the boundaries between documentary and fiction, representation and abstraction.

Very interesting work...at once, something I find, really and truly, funny...; and, on the other hand, somewhat deeply 'shocking'...as it's twisting the truth of what happens to be 'real life' events...of innocent people being seen walking down the street...being subjected to whatever is your own completely 'crazy' commentary...?!
I would totally agree 100%, though; that people who live in countries that are relatively at peace...do have absolutely no clue as to what it might be like to live in countries that are, constantly/or, even, only occasionally are at war. Myself, I've always lived in London, England...never been abroad, before; and, it's pretty much been peace all throughout my lifetime...; so, I've no idea what war is...nor do I necessarily want to know...?! War, is what happens in other people's countries...; but, certainly, not here. I'm not saying I don't care...I hate war! But, the honest truth is, I've never ever known it up really close...; then, I'm sure, I would really end up hating it for all the rest of my entire life.
As to memories...from out of the past...yea, they nearly always 'haunt' us...whether it's getting reminders in 'dreams'/or, from in 'reality'...food we used to both 'eat/drink' as a child; is pretty much the same 'food/drink' which i tend to make for myself, right now.
Another thing that impresses me...is, yes, I've made films of my own before.../but, not necessarily as good as yours is. So, seeing yours makes me want to become a far better film maker. -Thanks! ;-)
