8:38 Depends on how you define a country. By civilisation, Greece would be the oldest European country. By unchanged borders, Portugal. By continuous existence, then probably San Marino
24:55 The Eastern Roman Empire was Hellenised, with Greek speakers. So don't be afraid to say the Greeks had it, built it, and inhabited it for millenia.
29:04 The ,curious‘ and ,funny‘ coastline of Croatia is due to Yugoslavia being broken apart by a war. As all Yugoslavs used to live quite peacefully until then there were no countries without coast. It was one. You could also call it a brother war, created by nationalists, which ended in ethnic cleansing ( Srebrenica) and one neighbor killing the other. And lots of people emigrating. By the way the a in Zagreb is pretty long you say Zaaaagreb and also Riiijeka. The vocals are much longer in Croatian, Serbian, Bosnian ( which is pretty much the same language with little differences). In Bosnia there is still a lot of tension because traditionally Serbs lived in the Kraijna in Croatia and Bosnia and still do. So in Bosnia the ,Republica Srpska‘ is like a country within a country. I have relatives from the Croatian kraijna and it is quite weird to leave the EU to go to Bosnia and show your passport to go to Novi Grad ( which used to be called Bosanski Novi) so I have been there many times.
Oh, I am 41 so I was around during the Yugoslav war. Apologies for my choice of words. Funny is a bit inappropriate. I assumed that the borders were like that before the formation of Yugoslavia and that the countries just broke up again after the war.
@@styx544 my family is partly yogoslavian . Didn't mean to offend you. I love your work just wanted to point out, that it is no natural border at all but due to a lot of blood, sweat and tears. Love your work! I Think the way the border was made is really unfair, especially for the bosnians.
Oh, whoops! Well, it is still tiny compared to Italy or France, so although I was totally wrong with the numbers, the sentiment is the same! :) thanks for the comment!!
Thanks for doing Kosova! The population of Kosova consists of 95% ethnic Albanians, and the daily language used is of course Albanian. I really recommend you to visit Kosova, it’s a quite cheap country and it’s nature is astonishing! Greetings from Prishtina🇽🇰
