The Cowboys 3 best players just had career years. All 3 of them tanked in the playoffs. If you build around these 3 then we need a better roster. They just proved the last 3 seasons they are not good enough.

Your overall point would have more strength if you'd give examples of players that you think the Cowboys should have signed today. Of the top of my head, there's no one that the Cowboys could have gotten who would have made a difference, but I'm not super familiar with the whole league. I'd like to see them get a linebacker, but I don't know whether any linebackers really fit and are in the price range.
I still think that the problem is less with team-building and more with Jerry's ego and poor contracts. Jimmy Johnson was the last coach who could overshadow Jerry Jones. Since then, Jones has hired coaches who would be in his shadow. I don't think that a team can win if the coach has to live in the shadow of the owner.
The second problem is that the Cowboys have signed very bad contracts. I understand that Emmitt Smith was worth his price after his holdout. No one else has been worth that price since then. Jerry Jones was wrong to give Elliot the big contract and wrong to give Prescott the big contract. Neither of those players has lived up to those contracts, and those contracts have put the Cowboys in a bad position regarding the salary cap. I wouldn't have negotiated with Zack Martin last year. I would have told him that we'd try to give him more money at the end of the year if we won a Super Bowl but that he needed to focus on winning a Super Bowl rather than getting a payday. The whole point of long-term contracts is having good players committed at bargain prices.
The second problem leads into the third problem. If the Cowboys weren't committed to bad contracts, they would have more money to sign free agents. I know that they can play all kinds of stupid games around the salary cap in order to get more players. We see enough stupid games in real life. I'd like for football to be less about finding ways to cheat the rules.
The Cowboys go into 2024 with a lame duck coach and a lame duck quarterback. I don't care whether they make big moves this year in free agency. They aren't likely to win the Super Bowl after the 2024 season. I want them to take this year to develop people and then try to make a run in a couple of years. I hope that they get their contracts fixed and then make a good free agent run in 2026.
