    Got to appreciate a man that can take care of himself and his ride while on the road. Some guys don't know sh*t about their ride and are called steering wheel holders. They might be able to secure a load and book a load but are otherwise useless. Some viewers might know whom I'm talking about. Lol!
    Ride safe!

    My wife always called me a hoarder or pack rat when it came to my still good spare parts until we broke down in the middle of nowhere 600+ miles from home. Back up and running in 2 hours with compressor swap and kept my time. She never said a thing since. We don't do long hauls anymore. Miss my old 1969 KW 425 Cat 15 speed. Good to see you young guys working your own rig.

      I'm 32 and been driving for 5 years now and I keep my own tools. Had to do many roadside and trucks top repairs and bandaids through even 5 years. Running a 97 freightliner classic with 750 horse cat 3406E and a 15 speed as well. You can't predict everything and shit breaks at the least opportune time.

    A little advise, drain your air tanks manually every night when you shut down. Its a pain but once you get in the habit it will be second nature as your post inspection and will make that air dryer and valves last way longer and if you have cold winters like we do you won’t freeze brake lines up. I had a compressor passing oil and gumming my dryer up so I just bypassed the air dryer and ran it for several years so I didn’t have to buy a new compressor. It doesn’t make the truck unsafe just inconvenient because bypassing the dryer you have to drain the tanks obviously.

    as long as you change that filter on the dryer every year you should not have a problem and if it ever does that again and you don't have a spare dryer you can just connect the 2 big lines together and it will get you to where you need to get fixed. i have had to do that a few times for the company i work for. also keep a set of wrenches with you, it will come in handy.

    I had a split valve on the trailer go bad on I-70 West of Indianapolis a while back. It was something that no one would ever think of either changing or doing maintenance to either. As soon as it popped, I had to immediately get off the road ASAP. I obviously didn’t have one on me, so I called the roadside man at TA. I described what was leaking, and he said they made 3 different ones. He said I’ll load one up, I said load all 3. Good thing he brought all 3 because he told me he was going to bring one that wasn’t the right one. I promise you though, that day I sure was glad I knew how to downshift quickly. That truck was dragging the trailer nearly immediately. Went from 67 to 20 in about 200 feet.

    40 yrs ago, the driver I traveled with - had a 150 # tool box. Whatever truck he was in - the tools were in the cab. In Canada, tools left in the side panels would freeze and rip your skin off, in the winter. He was a 750 miles into the US. The turbo charger blew up. He called back and his boss gave the part to the wife and she drove down. He was in a stop - and had the blower pulled and everything ready to install and get moving, when his wife pulled in. 2 hrs later - he pulled out of the truck stop and finished the run. Every 2 weeks - he walked the truck and trailer and put a wrench on every nut and bolt. While I never went for a CDL - I have a lot of respect for those who did it well. Cheers

    My first assigned tractor (a 68 Diamond Reo) had no air dryer. At lunch time I tried to park so nose was higher, petcock lower, and the warmest part of the day and drained them down to almost zero. Saved a lot of problems. My next tractor was a 75 white road boss. It had an automatic drier.
    Truck ahead of me on Mass pike flipped a cone at me which took off the petcock. I knew instantly what happened and managed to get over before it ran out of air. When it did I stopped real quick. Had air start so had to keep engine running till help came.

The dryer I was told is automatic. Nevertheless didn't ever change a filter. Wondering if I'm messing up a maintenance procedure, she's got 2,864,390 miles on both her tanks and air dryer. Hi Justin, given the new , upcoming California electric truck mandate, is it feasible for truckers to all turn in the keys to conventional diesels and switch to electric rigs? Or, will truckers simply need avoid loads within California altogether. Thanks for great vids. Stay safe out there!

    • @mptpowertrucking8096
      @mptpowertrucking8096 4 года назад

      Shawn Labroix. California will be forced to continue issuing diesel truck day permits. Those Electric trucks need recharging stops, there isn't enough pavement in the whole state of California to accommodate this bird brain regulation. We're already gettin a taste in many other states unable to maintain retail inventories due to another bird brain regulation ELD's. Have you noticed the USPS mail slow down 7 day delivery ATL to Chi ?? even ground UPS, FedEx plenty of trucks and drivers but a clock stopped 10 miles from the HUB's. YRC took away driver benefits after years of concession and they're still not going to exist much longer due to insurance costs. No way too late to rework Cali runs plus replace fleet with electric trucks. Diesel is so clean it's tearing up the DEF engines. Sorry for getting off subject.

    Good advise about knowing your ride. I don't drive a semi but do have a CDL and have driven charter buses for 20 years. Knowing my vehicle has saved me quite a few times from breaking down far from base. You don't want to have almost 60 people on the side of the road who are angry at you.My daily driver is a Chevy 1500 and I keep a few spare parts in the tool box because I don't want to be on the side of the road at the mercy of anyone who stops.
