Happening Now: Vance courts voters in Michigan after second Trump assassination attempt

- Sen. JD Vance (R-Ohio), former President Trump's running mate, will deliver remarks Tuesday at a campaign event in Michigan, just days after a second assassination attempt was made on Trump's life.
The former president was golfing at his resort in West Palm Beach, Fla., Sunday when the suspect allegedly pushed the muzzle of a rifle through the perimeter of the golf course, prompting a Secret Service agent to fire. Identified as Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, the suspect was accused of possessing a firearm despite being a convicted felon and possessing a firearm with an obliterated serial number.
Tuesday's rally also comes as Vance and Trump face scrutiny over false claims about a town in neighboring Ohio, where they have pushed conspiracy theories around Haitian migrants and eating pets.
In the battleground state, Trump is trailing Vice President Harris by less than 1 point - 47.4 percent to 48.2 percent - according to The Hill/Decision Desk HQ's aggregate polling index. The Great Lakes State boasts 15 Electoral College votes.
The campaign event is scheduled to begin at 1:30 p.m. EDT.

Incidentally I also just read J.D Vance's book "Hillbilly Elegy" and he's definitely a real Brayton cowboy! Was very humbled by his tough upbringing AND he came across as a genuinely bright chap that's very down to earth (zero pretentiousness). And so if J.D does emerge the eventual VP, we'll be counting on this son of the Ohio to do the right thing for democracy. i.e. if sh*t hits the fan and democracy seems like its on the rocks ! If not for us, he'll do the right thing atleast for mamaw and papaw's legacy! His grand parents were committed members of the working man's party - the Democratic Party.
