    At 10:30 you forgot to mention one important aspect of theory... You have to say "Oh NO ! My Queen..." after knight e4 to ensure that your opponant buys it !

      yess,, I love the psychological aspect of chess tournaments - trying to get opponents to fall into your traps. Like a quite ugh no or an exasperated moan when you offer the bait.

      I always sigh after setting up a sacrifice for my opponent. Players who you often play with won't buy into it. Can tell from experience :(

      I always accepted. Most people think they have you but this gambit is not to hard to refute. Once you survive the opening, they are usually in trouble. They are not used to having to play this position out.

      @@mjfolkerts because they don't know how to play Stafford. If it was Eric Rosen or Me I can beat you easily. They only rely on the lines if the opponent decides to not follow the lines they'll get confused and don't know what to do. The Goal in Stafford is to continue to make unlimited threats so your opponent will have a headache finding all the threats and will eventually fall to the trap. Those players you've encounter are probably beginners at Stafford.

    In 14:55 stockfish says that its +11(massive advantage for white). And when you analyze the position for a few seconds, you can see that black actually can't keep the attack going on (d3 is coming)...

    I believe another variation plays h7 and puts the knight on g4(fishing pole idea) if be2 is played. Then black can play qd6, threatening mate, which leads to white to playing g3 and black playing qxg3 which leads to mate.

    In the Nc3 variation, white doesn't have to play g3 to attack the queen. He can just capture the e4 knight and eliminate the threat of Qxf2

    As black, I reached the exact same position at 1:56 minutes then white played Qe2 & I was toast!. Wasn't sure what to do since it was a blitz game. I checked the engine which had white up at about +1.5 pawns with this position... bummer.

    You didn’t mention any strategies if opponent plays queen F3. I’ve tried this gambit several times against A.I. And every response is queen F3. I feel like there’s not much advantage with that response.

    I’ve been working on a stronger defensive game lately. Like setting up traps. All the people I run across and play they are 100 aggressive and are always on the attack. What’s starting to happen as I get better with traps is,they walk right into them. I’ve gotten pretty good at settling up wind mills. A rook & bishop working together is pretty damn deadly.

    In the e5 line, the video neglects to mention (after Black plays Qh4) that White can play Nxe4, and White should be fine after Black plays Qxe4 inviting White's response Qe2. Black moves its Q, and White plays c3 intending d4 to protect the e5 pawn and solidify White's position.

    At 13:46 I would hate taking back the pawn opening lines against my own king and throwing away my developing advantage. I’d suggest keeping the attack going with ..h5 with the idea of putting N or B on g4 and opening the h-file.

    In the line shown at 2:10, what should be black's response if white moves Qf3?
    Also, what if white's fifth move (at 0:55) is pawn to f3? I thought black's best response is to move the knight Nh5, but then white responds with g3. What should be black's response now? I tried thinking of many options to deal with these situations and maintain the advantage but couldn't come up with anything good 🤔

    After 3:50 white is in a great position. Bxg4 is a threat, white can castle and push f3 and black loses a piece. I don't understand what black gets by paying that particular line.

    If, in the line outlined in my above comment, after White plays Qe2, Black plays Qxc2, White plays Qd3 and if Black then plays Qc5 or Qa4 then White plays. Nf3.

      If you play against strong opponent or literally anyone who have watch this, this gambit is kinda bad... And could make you lose the game

    Had guy play this vs me the other day and I was confused from the queen move. Luckily it was 30mint rapid game so I was able to calculate and defend properly. He choked after he ran out of memorized moves

      In that case it’s just called Petrov’s defense. There should be some instruction on that. Good luck!

      @@cameronmass1022 it is usually called the Russian game and there is very little assistance or commentary on it. Unfortunately as has been noted by others on many Stafford videos this is probably the most common line at sub 2000 levels and it’s a bit dull

    What should I play then? My engine shows Nc5 which I dont really like, is there any way to continue the attack (or another trap)? Or is it just better to back up?
