Mashpee Wampanoag is being taught at local Mashpee schools for those that want to learn. The little ones are learning and speaking quicker and easier than the adults. A grant was given to Jessie Little Doe Baird to teach the language to anyone and everyone who would wish to learn. The little ones are very fluent in the language and the language is spoken instead of English in many homes currently. It took Jessie many months to learn the language but because she would not let it rest she is now a very special teacher and training others to teach. Jessie is a direct descendent of the very first chief of the Mashpee People's "Keeper's or People of the First Light".
