The bowl is pretty cool imo. Sometimes you've got to cater to your little buddy's circumstances and the bowl looks quite comfortable for a blind betta.
Yeah I had a betta who developed tumors early on (still survived over a year tho! Didn’t even get bad symptoms from them besides raggedy fins until the last few weeks) He was in a 5 gallon and when he went blind, about 1.5 months before he passed, it became a whole ass thing getting him to eat even though he WAS hungry and searching for it (he knew my presence means food half the time) After under a week of him barely eating because of his sight, I switched him to a smaller tank (literally one of those plastic critter keepers) and because of that he was finally eating as much as he was supposed to, therefore not suffering more than he needed to
I actually bought a betta from the seller in the bowl video. He's doing so well, and I don't doubt the person's knowledge to cater towards their special blind betta :)) From what I know, they sell hundreds of beautiful betta from Thailand!
the bowl isn't even small, it looks like a 5 gallon at least. tbh people go way overboard on betta rules. Garanteed a betta would be super happy in this bowl with the great set up it has to a blank or plastic decore 10 gallon tank.
Agree. And about the filter…the plants and deep substrate are the filter. bettas don’t like to be pushed around, especially if they’re disabled. I know my betta tanks are set at the lowest flow setting and my boys are quite healthy. Bravo to anyone caring for a blind betta❤
I mean part of that is the rubber band effect. People treated betta fish like decorations rather than pets for a really long time, so I’m quite happy to see the pendulum swing the other way for once.
Definitely not. The US is super behind on animal husbandry requirements already, so what we consider even in the animal keeping hobbyist community of US as the bare minimum is small and not that great. also in general the idea that the 'bare minimum size enclosure' in a country = 'the size you should aim for and keep them in and they'll thrive in' is not really based in animal science. so tbh, people going 'overboard' are just people for once thinking more about the fish's happiness than "what's the smallest square inches of desk space i can use to make another living creature's entire world?"
10:00 The "vertebrate" there is actually the digestive system. Blood-feeding leeches has branching lateral extensions to maximize storage and surface area for absorption.
Hair Tips: Honestly with wavy hair it's not really too difficult to style it on the go without much effort. I suggest a wider tooth comb - a fine tooth comb might make it very fluffy if you use it while dry - and maybe a light mousse if you want to give it extra body or bounce. An easy and quick way to style yoir hair would be to do it after drying it a bit right out of the shower, applying about a quarter dollop of mousse - particularly to the ends - and then just combing it neatly. The mousse will help set it for the day and it doesn't take much time or effort. If you want to go for an even more styled look a round brush is a great option for building body but they can be a little temperamental to use at first so the first few attempts might leave a lot to be desired. With all that being said I'm black and have 4C type curls so my definition of quick and easy might not be the same considering you admit you don't even bother doing anything with yours even now. 💀 If you were just joking about wanting the hair tips....well too bad because I took you seriously and if you got to this point you have the recommendation anyway. 😐
For curly/wavy hair the trick is you avoid washing it when it doesn't absolutely need it and you use a high protein shampoo/conditioner. Basically most shampoo/conditioner on the market are terrible for curly hair. When showering focus shampoo on the roots and conditioner on the rest, especially the tips. Switching pillowcases to silk (or satin) also protects from breakage. Don't bother with a basic comb/brush as it makes the hair worse if dry. Instead they make brushes designed for curly hair. It's more in depth than that but basically the way everyone is taught to treat hair is with the assumption of fine/straight hair. Any deviation from that requires different care and often times even the opposite.
Favourite non-fish thing in my tank... Hmmm... that's a tough one. Maybe the boot with the hole in it? The empty beer can? The rusty pistol? Oh, I know! It's the discarded tire! That's it for sure! All of these are in my authentically scaped Mississippi River tank. The old broken bottle and the rusty fish hooks with the tangled wad of monofilament fish line is a pretty good touch too.
The threadfin rainbows I got last week are doing great ! they were pale grey when introduced to the tank and now they've taken on a blue color, and their behaviours and schooling are very fun to watch
The Paludarium at 6:50 is mine! Thanks for the review. I broke it down now and built a completely new one, which is much much better than this one. Awesome video as always btw!
I know im major late.. But favourite non fish item in my tank is a 7 pound piece of petrified wood i found when i was around 8 years old down at the sask river in alberta. Its been lugged through my life for 20 years and now is no longer house decor as it lives in my 40gal
The bowl looks pretty cool I think the reason why they didn't include a filter is because if they did, then the blind betta fish would have swam into the filter and suffer injuries or die
Your insightful reviews and passion for fish tanks truly create a welcoming ocean of knowledge for enthusiasts like me. Your dedication shines through, turning each video into a captivating underwater adventure. Thank you for sharing your expertise and making the aquarium world even more fascinating! 🐠✨
In case it hasn't been said already.... A comb is extremely useful when one desires to remove unwanted floaters, duckweed for example. So even if you don't want to comb your hair....
My favorite non-fish thing in my tank would probably be the natural quartz rocks I dug up from my fathers property-in the right lighting they look like mini mountains, and my baby platy (named Whopper Mc Jr) she loves to play around them! She lives in a 20 gal with her parents, three Cory’s, and a few tetras. I’m setting up a 20 long for the tetras to have for themselves.
Honestly one of the things I love about Bettas is they don't need a huge tank, it's nice when you have a small apartment, finding space for a 30gallon was challenging lol Favorite not fish thing would either be the cauldron I use as a planter, or the aquarium lily I finally got to sprout lol
I absolutely love those potted tanks that look like gardens, and that betta one was no exception. It was gorgeous! And then I got to the ribbed newt and betta and died inside. :( I have four Spanish ribbed newts (you featured one of them, Meatloaf, on one of your shorts once!) and there's sooo much wrong with that photo. 1. Ribbed newts need cold water, like axolotls. Bettas obviously need warm water. Either that newt is too hot, or the betta is freezing its poor butt off. 2. Also like axolotls, ribbed newts can't have gravel because they're stupid and they get really excited when it's feeding time. There's a risk of them swallowing gravel, which can lead to impaction and seriously hurt them. 3. That poor newt looks really skinny... 4. Did I mention newts are stupid and hungry? Anything you put in a tank in it that's small enough to be eaten...will likely be eaten, or at least the newt will try! QotW: Do my newts count? Lol
My favourite non-fish thing is my Juwel tank itself! Mine is in dark wood, I think the one in your video (the present) is light wood which is also very nice. Juwel aquariums of the Rio range just look very nice and not overly classy. Just perfect in any interior!
My Mondays are not complete without watching the latest ep of FTR. Though been busy lately with research work, when I have a free time to watch em with delish noms (pancit canton sweet n spicy flavor included. Cheers to more eps and see you bro at the 1M mark! *sending virtual fist bump from the Philippines
Qotw: the plants, especially the terrestrial plants. My peace lily has a new bloom and is beautiful, I love it. Sometimes I look at the plants more than the fish 😅
I have white cloud minnows with my marbled newts. Usually the only challenge is finding fish in the newts lower temperature range under 75F. But they clean up the bits the newts dont eat.
All of my Candy Cane Tetras died this weekend. Had 10 of them in a 29 gallon with 12 Rummynose for a month now. Slight signs of ich, so I did a water change and added salt. I wonder if it's because I hadn't vacuumed the gravel yet and I had added a lot of food for cycling over a long time. Maybe I stirred up contaminants they couldn't deal with. One or two at a time, they started swimming weird and then quickly died while the rest looked fine until it hit them. The Rummynose seem ok.
I saw and replied to the post at 6:26 lots of good feels! Also, I now know that I have a baby dragonfly in my tank. AOTW: my dragon stone that I fit to create levels. Like a stone wall with sand higher behind it. It looks so natural, I can't believe I got it on the first try. .
Ceramics can be glazed with colors that contain lead, nickel, and COPPER. Copper is bad for your inverts and if it can leech into your food from some bowls you gotta be very careful with them in water. Generally I would consider something that's dishwasher safe with no cracks is probably ok, definitely safer than something with multiple cracks/chips. My grandma had her own ceramic studio where she did classes so I've picked up this very basic little tidbit from a (mostly) trustworthy source
My local garden store just started stocking dwarf papyrus. Any ideas on elements for a nile-themed aquarium without heading into fake pyramid territory? (Ive been wanting to make a half-filled 400L riparium for a while, this might be the one)
One curly hair cream (i like the brand not your mother) when u dry ur hair. i would reccomend a good high protien shampoo and conditioner (seperate if possible) and a big tooth comb or a wavy hair detangler brush. Brush ur hair when it is moist/straight out of the shower and just brush through with fingers. And let it dry with ur curl cream on. Do a full shower maybe 2 times a week .
Favorite thing in my fish tank? Cherry SHROMP!!! Especially when all the rainbow colors breed for a few generations and revert to Wild Type... I did a Science! That and driftwood found in the wild (on a freshwater beach, well dried out...).
If you want it to dry straight, or a little wavy, you can try brushing dry with the help of blow-dry or towel maybe. To dry curly with a specific curl pattern you can twirl while wet, or kinda tease it around (sounds dirty) or use products like curling mousse . Shampoo the scalp, condition the ends. If particularly dry, condition liberally. I always let my conditioner sit for a bit. Products do matter, maybe consult a barber or cosmetologist. Product are inherently important for frizz and poof control as well. A few tips to combat the frizz and poof are serums and oils safe to leave in. A little goes a long ways, focus on the ends of the hair where driest, and brush through for even coverage. If you don't have the resources, a little bit of lotion works as well.
I have a Doctor Who Tardis in my Opae Ola tank I put the bubbler under it so it looks like the Tardis is trying to take off. It has lights too so it looks really cool.
it's a fresh water dwarf sole fish, I had them many years ago, they were the coolest fish I've had, like over 30 yrs ago and I have never seen them again since and have always wanted them, I'd literally pay astronomical amounts to get them again if I ever saw them.
If you have curls you should use non surfactant or sulfate or parabens shampoo 2-3 times a week and a non alchohol conditioner every day only a penny sized dot wor conditioner qnd use prands like based or Native they use good ingredients i hope this helps
I'm loving the beta bowl. It looks like it's about 3 gallons which is plenty of room for a beta. I don't believe that a beta needs 10 gallons to survive. This bowl is beautifully done. And it's perfect for a blind beta or for one that has his sight. Either way.
bettas need at least 5 gallons to hold a stable cycle(for beginners especially), and the floor space for a betta that isnt blind is important. a bowl or square tank doesn't have the best floor space
@@jacksonbutler1828 And here we go. It took a little longer than I thought it would though. BETAS WILL BE FINE IN 3 GALLONS of water. Whether a tank or a large bowl. Floor space??? This is the first time I've heard of this one. LMBO. Betas might go down to the height of a plant to sleep on a leaf, but I've never seen one swimming around on the floor. They swim mid-tank to top-tank. And I've had a few betas at a time for the last 13 yrs. And yes, they were in seperate tanks and bowls. And while this does not make me an expert,...it does make me an experienced beta keeper. I've had some that were happy in a 5 gallon tank and then some that freaked out in a 5 gallon tank.. So I put the unhappy ones in a 3 gallon bowl and they calmed down and were happy.. Most even lived longer than the ones in the 5 gallon tank. Most. But not all. Everyone's experiences are different, but that doesn't mean that they are wrong. Remember that please.
Chris for hair you just have to put a hat on, this won't work if you have to take the hat off but otherwise is foolproof, for QOTW mine is probably my Ludwigia repens
Just got back from my job as an aquarist and my betta is not doing well, he's been with me for 4 years and has been deteriorating recently, I fear by next ftr he will no longer be with us. Just giving him a special last couple days in this realm.
Beautiful Brachirus harmandi (basic info: live in Laos, Thailand, grow to around 10 cm, love water changes and parameters ~ pH 6,0 - 7,0 , temperature around 23 - 27°C). Looks like happy one, because it have quite some space to mess around and bury itself. I would say that's a great work 👍
7:04 That's a damselfly larvae. While still not good to have with nano fish (they're pretty lousy hunters tbh), it isn't nearly as bad as dragonfly larvae
Question for yall. I started doing beta rescue from petco. I go in and pick the sickest one and try to cure them. I also fill the beta tank with filtered water from the fridge. It takes forever, one cup at a time. My question, is i had a completely clean tank, and my last resue died after only 15 hours. Do i need to completely discard all of the water he was in before he died? Its a 5 gallon
And switch to silk pillows and make sure do not use heat gadgets on the hiest it will dry out your hair and kill it and make sure your products or for your hair type
So happy i can actually see the ftr under an hour after posted, usually i have school but today is a PD day. I had a blind betta in a 3gal with low flow, he lived a nice long 5 years with no problems in the water column. Qotw:has to be my bamboo shrimp, always using her little hands to catch the particles in the water column! (not the water as it has fish poop and microorganisms living in it)
Do snails count as non-fish things? Because if so, they're definitely my favorite. The whole reason I got into aquariums abd fish keeping was for snails actually. It's a long story but I ended up with 4 mystery snails and had to set up a 10 gallon tank for them, and ever since then I've always had at least one mystery snail under my roof. I know so much about freshwater snails and I'll never learn enough, I get so psyched when I find a new species or learn something about my current babies.
Fishtank update: so unfortunately I lost my nerite that I’ve had for almost a year/around a year. This is the one who ate through part of the betta leaf on several occasions to get the algae off of it and survived. When I make sure the tank is ok again, I will replace him with a stone/anchor catfish. I’ve loved those little guys for a while but never thought I could have them in my tanks. My coworker who’s fishkeeping knowledge far surpasses my own said my betta tank is perfectly fine for two of the little guys. Esp since the betta is disabled and the tank is heavily planted. Qotw: fav non fish thing in my tanks is either my massive Java ferns (crested and non crested). I also adored my little nerite snail who was a little beast in his own right
I do love that food truck decor. Maybe it would be better if it was missing a wall or roof, that way the fish couldn't get trapped in there? IDK I'm not a part of this hobby, I just love your vids lol
People do consider a betta fish in a nano tank to be a good introduction into the hobby, but a female betta in a planted tank of around 10 gallons is just 👌 And I think the goldfish might be in the guppy tank for population control That dragonfly nymph entered the WRONG tank! XD Any nano fish would’ve been easy prey but pea puffers don’t mess around!
i cant place bottom plants on my tank because only one store sells them near me and they are extremely EXPENSIVE, but floating plants are cheap so yesterday and today i remake my 2 betta tanks and fill it with salvinia minina an pothos EVERYWHERE, 0 toxins registered with only those plants, firts 10 hours my betta was like "WHERE IS MY HOUSE *proceds to glass surfing*" but right now and a few hours before he was exploring more relaxed, that boi really likes roots and surfaces near the top i may remove a big rock that i place on the middle because i think that takes a lot of swimming space and total water, i still have woods on then sides like "giant roots" spreading across everywhere so he dont get bored of not having stuff in the tank

The bowl is pretty cool imo. Sometimes you've got to cater to your little buddy's circumstances and the bowl looks quite comfortable for a blind betta.
exactly!
Yeah I had a betta who developed tumors early on (still survived over a year tho! Didn’t even get bad symptoms from them besides raggedy fins until the last few weeks)
He was in a 5 gallon and when he went blind, about 1.5 months before he passed, it became a whole ass thing getting him to eat even though he WAS hungry and searching for it (he knew my presence means food half the time)
After under a week of him barely eating because of his sight, I switched him to a smaller tank (literally one of those plastic critter keepers) and because of that he was finally eating as much as he was supposed to, therefore not suffering more than he needed to
I actually bought a betta from the seller in the bowl video.

Absolutely
Agree. And about the filter…the plants and deep substrate are the filter. bettas don’t like to be pushed around, especially if they’re disabled. I know my betta tanks are set at the lowest flow setting and my boys are quite healthy. Bravo to anyone caring for a blind betta❤
I've been going deep into father fish videos he is all about smaller tanks and bowls for bettas
Seeing your own tank on FTR makes for a 5/5 Monday! Another great video, Chris!

it's a fresh water dwarf sole fish, I had them many years ago, they were the coolest fish I've had, like over 30 yrs ago and I have never seen them again since and have always wanted them, I'd literally pay astronomical amounts to get them again if I ever saw them.
that's so cool
In Florida local springs there would be those freshwater flounder and we would catch them In lithia springs ❤
7:49 is a freshwater sole fish
Lol that flounder is called a hogchoker. No joke 😂
cuz it be choking pigs?!
@@FishForThought your guess is as good as mine. I often question the names we give animals 😂
I want one…
@@leilaclarridge5807 right! I’d like a low boy full of just bottom dwellers like this guy
If you have curls you should use non surfactant or sulfate or parabens shampoo 2-3 times a week and a non alchohol conditioner every day only a penny sized dot wor conditioner qnd use prands like based or Native they use good ingredients i hope this helps
Not to be picky, but the insect the pea puffer scarfed up was a damselfly larva, not a dragonfly larva. Cool piece of video!
I'm loving the beta bowl. It looks like it's about 3 gallons which is plenty of room for a beta. I don't believe that a beta needs 10 gallons to survive. This bowl is beautifully done. And it's perfect for a blind beta or for one that has his sight. Either way.
yeah fr
bettas need at least 5 gallons to hold a stable cycle(for beginners especially), and the floor space for a betta that isnt blind is important. a bowl or square tank doesn't have the best floor space
Just giving him a special last couple days in this realm.
snail leech is a copepod, you can see another on the other side of the moss ball peaking over, they are lying about what it's called LOL
dang it's a copepod?! I had no idea... they come in all sorts of sizes and forms eh
The Mario star effect really helped me sit through that lengthy self plug
LMAO
I just got a red tiger lotus for my tank and it's my current favorite plant!
I would say that's a great work 👍
noice
You ARE our favorite Monday show. 🐠🤘
That song at the end always has me bopping.
Happy FFTDAY 🥳
That snail leach gave me the willies!
fr, that thing looks crazy!
“I thought this was just the ground before it moved”
“Gotta work on that camouflage.”
🤔
If chris had a comb, we all know it's going to be used to comb the sand in some crazy sandscape tank
(not the water as it has fish poop and microorganisms living in it)
ayyy that's super early! bamboo shrimp are awesome filter feeders
How do I go about sending in a video of a fish tank?
check description or email me or dm on ig
QOTW: All my plants in general but my Tiger lotus if I had to pick a favorite.
such a cool plant
Hey Chris how many neon tetras would you recommend in a 3 gallon tank with a Betta fish? Or should I not have any at all
You can get little bonsai pots for cheap that'll look great in a tank
QOTD, it’s either 2 mistery snails breeding like crazy or all the valisneria and crypts making my 29 gallons look like 5.
I have a comb but I use it to scoop the duck weed out of my tank
The pea puffer!!! KILLER lol
I also adored my little nerite snail who was a little beast in his own right
aw man sry bout the loss! I hate losing my big and old nerites :(
Thanks! I’m glad I got to have him for as long as I did since who knows how old he was when I got him at the pet store 🥺
Another Monday another pain for fish keepers with people who lack expiriance and don't care about their fish!
We all learn someday.
o boy xD
For me it all depends on the size of the bowl but usually I keep betta fish in a 5 gallon or larger aquarium
That bowl looks at,east 5 gallons or even more 🤷♀️
@@Lalalalalaa yeah which is fine
likely not gonna be 5 gallons, but close!
@@FishForThought yeah but it is blind wich does make a difference as you said in your video
Can use a comb to scoop out duckweed easily.
what was that fish at the very start??
I do love that food truck decor. Maybe it would be better if it was missing a wall or roof, that way the fish couldn't get trapped in there? IDK I'm not a part of this hobby, I just love your vids lol
ty!
People do consider a betta fish in a nano tank to be a good introduction into the hobby, but a female betta in a planted tank of around 10 gallons is just 👌
And I think the goldfish might be in the guppy tank for population control
That dragonfly nymph entered the WRONG tank! XD
Any nano fish would’ve been easy prey but pea puffers don’t mess around!
yessss female bettas all the way!
So underrated!
And if I ever get to setting up a betta tank, I'll definitely be keeping an eye out for short-finned varieties
QOTW : my favorite non fish thing is probably my red tiger lotus or my my driftwood
awesome
Yo love Channel i started watching in 2020 cus the kuronvires is still so funny❤❤
i cant place bottom plants on my tank because only one store sells them near me and they are extremely EXPENSIVE, but floating plants are cheap so yesterday and today i remake my 2 betta tanks and fill it with salvinia minina an pothos EVERYWHERE, 0 toxins registered with only those plants, firts 10 hours my betta was like "WHERE IS MY HOUSE *proceds to glass surfing*" but right now and a few hours before he was exploring more relaxed, that boi really likes roots and surfaces near the top
i may remove a big rock that i place on the middle because i think that takes a lot of swimming space and total water, i still have woods on then sides like "giant roots" spreading across everywhere so he dont get bored of not having stuff in the tank
Does an axolotl count as a non fish thing since they aren't fish?
I haven’t watched an episode in a few weeks just so I can have today for a few hours
Qotw: my favorite fish thing in my tank have to be my cryptocoryne wendtii plants. They're massive and beautiful!
aw yes I agree
Can I have glass catfish in a Blackwater tank?
yes! they'll love it
Dodgy audio today.
My only issue with the Betta bowl is that we didnt get to see said Betta.
QOTW: My favourite non-fish thing in my tank is my red eared slider turtle, Crush (my daughter named him after the turtle in Finding Nemo).
My favorite non fish thing in my tank is this fake tree my little brother picked out for the fish
cool :)
