I think you hit the nail on the head Deadly. Because of life in general I only get to play a handful of days in a month. Early wipe is a blast because of how the gunfights are drawn out and how they feel. But after just a few weeks after wipe the time to kill seems almost nonexistent. Leaving casuals like me in the dust. I only play the first week or two of wipe and then move onto another game until the next wipe happens.

    • @TheBonkening
      @TheBonkening Год назад +32

Exactly, the game requires you to constantly be playing to keep up. Add to that the real-time things like insurance and bitcoin farm and it just demands you keep coming back to it lest you just get completely outmatched by those that play several hours a day.

I´m a casual too, I understand your point, but... More time invested equals better gear, that´s the way not only in Tarkov. I could live with that. For me Tarkov is fine for three or four months after a wipe. After that? What´s the point of investing my scarce time if BSG is (possibly) wiping in another 6 or 8 weeks? Why should I grind horribly difficult tasks such as Tarkov Shooter Pt. 8? Which brings me to another point: BSG is telling us the game is a Beta (which is a joke, it´s in Alpha, since Beta would mean that all features are already in the game, which is not the case, see vaulting, see whole classes of weapons and so on...) Anyway, the game is in public testing and BSG is relying on the community to fix bugs and get input for improvements. As it is, BSG is literally banning a lot of players from testing the Lightkeeper questline, since they require a ridiculous amount of hard quests which most casuals can´t do within a wipe. Shouldn´t they seek to have ALL of their game tested by as many people as possible? Which leads me to yet another point: if Tarkov should be finally released someday: how are BSG´s plans for some kind of endgame? I mean at the moment wiping every 6 months and get your progress set back to 0 is...okay. But you can´t do that in a final release without killing the game after you done that two or three times. So, what´s the plan here?

    • @TheBonkening
      @TheBonkening Год назад +31

@@sozialistischespatientenko3797 more playtime equals better gear is true for a lot of games indeed, however for very few does it create such an imbalance as it does in tarkov. We're not just talking about a reddot instead of iron sights, or a new fancy gun. We're talking armor that makes most ammo types useless, ammo types that make armor useless, attachements that make guns that kick like mules into laser beams, becoming unaffected by weight of armor and guns, the ability to sprint around for significantly longer periods of time at much higher speeds while also being able hear a mouse fart across the map, etc.
It's just a cummulation of many things and the entire game needs a proper rebalance after years of tiny individual patches upon patches upon patches.

@@TheBonkening You´re right, if someone is dedicating his whole life to Tarkov he has a lot of advantages. So what?
I´ve got a real life instead. But I would not want to nerf any of the soft skills you´ve mentioned or to make the best possible ammo available to everyone. As I see it, BSG should perhaps think about implementing some sort of matchmaking, to avoid having 18hrs-per-day-streamers wiping whole servers filled with low-level players. But not sure if that would be even possible, given the number of players, which seems to be quite low at the moment. What is more annoying, again in my opinion, is making parts required to improve your hideout that scarce (or forcing players to try their luck at Labs...) that a large part of the community is essentially being blocked from getting Intel to level 3 or to get the solar farm. Everyone should at least have a fair chance to get the hideout fully improved.

It is what it is, brother. Tarkov has strong RPG elements that people seem to forge about. Of course you will be at a disadvantage vs people who play Tarkov 8+ hours a day... It's about understanding your place and trying to be okay with it, I feel like. You said it yourself: you're a casual. There is a place for you in Tarkov, but it is the place of the casual player. The one that struggles to max traders, the one that has an average of 800K to 2M in his stash through wipe. The one that is constantly working through tasks throughout the wipe instead of focusing on PVP. It simply is what it is. Does that mean the game should be... easier?

I like something similar done by Jordy Lakiere, the single dev behind We Who Are About To Die. In that game you play as a gladiator with permadeath. But you can invest your current character's fame & money (and one heirloom piece of equipment) into the next future character for when your current one either dies or succeeds his goal in the arena and is retired. That way, when you start a new character it's not from square 1 but with certain benefits from the previous character to give you that initial leg up.
Additionally if your previous character succeeded his goal, based on his background your future characters will receive certain bonuses.
Could work well for EfT too with something similar. Depending on which questlines & achievements, hideout-upgrades & stashed items available, you can at certain points "retire" the PMC by having them escape and be permanently gone leaving some bonuses behind for the next PMC. The more you do and invest in your current PMC, the more the next one will have to build on.

I agree with pretty much everything you said in this video. Ever since I got good at Tarkov, I've thought that everyone should have the same running speed and same endurance. Your kits and weight should matter far more than how much time you put into the game to level up your skills. Not only is it completely unbalanced how fast and strong people can get, but it just isn't fun to fight against. Like you said, you lose so much of the early wipe fun as the wipe progresses because it becomes a different game when people have high level skills and gear. I hope in at least arena, everyone has the same strength and endurance.

Your analysis is pretty spot on!
For me the game cycle goes like this:
0-~10 No fun because no guns, no meds, no armor, even someone able to run an automatic weapon will pawn you. Also limited tasks, with map funneling. You have a streak of bad games, you have to run really crap gear, making you even less effective. Overall pretty brutal.
10-30 Then you start getting some gear and some loadout variety and the game starts being fun, and that part lasts a while. Lots of tasks to accomplish, on different maps, you don't have X key, you can just focus on some other task.
After a good chunck of people start running high level gear and start unlocking high level skills, it stops being fun again. It's 2 wipes now, that I quit soon after lvl 30.
This is not even going into the cheater issue, the very real broken sound issue (that was one of the main reasons I stopped playing this patch), or the whole flea market vs sold out traders discussion.

    • @jepu1742
      @jepu1742 Год назад +4

What annoys me in the lvl 10-30 period is there are so many possibilities to make great budget kits or try a different meta but the quests funnel you into using the same gear and weapons each wipe. For example each Punisher task makes you either wear shitty gear or use a certain weapon.

  • @edzbienen

Also would be nice if there were BEAR and PMC questlines as well as minor variations. So for example on customs prapors watch could be in any of the fuel trucks instead of always the same one. The folder in the traincart could have multiple spawns inside the cart. Etc etc. This would make it so that you actually have to look for stuff instead of going through the motions. It also makes is less predictable for other players to know what you're up to.

    • @shannenmr
      @shannenmr Год назад +2

Alot of the quests could have variations for the requirements and when you unlock it or accept it it rolls for which one it gives you making it slightly harder to pre-gather all the items, quest specific items should have multiple potential locations in a RAID, they should re-balance the quest rewards AND say let you pick which rewards or give you a set of rewards + let you pick 1 specific item from a pool to allow some player choice OR you can accept the standard rewards or pick just 1 or 2 specific better items etc.

I think the truth in all this is far simpler than anyone is willing to admit: This game has been out for years and its core experience has stayed relatively the same, and it's become stale. It's neither the developers' nor the players' fault for this, it is just what happens when an Early Access game is available for years before its release. The only changes the developers can make are incremental, as normal game development time is quite long and arduous. This means that the experience of the game throughout the years is going to be pretty much one-note. No matter how well it plays that note, human beings are naturally inclined to want to experience new things and the same game over and over again with some minor and even major tweaks will not suffice forever.
It happened with DayZ Standalone, a once prominent game on Deadly's channel. It was a game set out to be a very specific experience and Sean would fully agree with me that this experience would (and did) get a bit old. I remember how fun the UN Server was and how willing people were to roleplay and engage socially, but that was despite the game not because of the game (And also in spite of ban-happy mods in my case). Eventually that experience became tired and faded, and the playerbase was in the triple digits. It bounced back to relatively mediocre success but many OG players got tired out. It's happened to all long-term Early Access/Alpha/Beta games.
Long gone are the times of day 1 full release games that deliver on 100% of the experience and assurances. The new world is a sea of endless half-baked AAA games rushed to get early sales figures to look good on the publisher's quarterly reports, early access games that are hardly more than a good concept for a game and simply a disappointment in the product you get, AAA games turned free-to-play in favor of cosmetic micro-transactions and gambling to be the only way to avoid the slog they compensate the game progression to be, and an occasional high quality game that gets overplayed and remade with thousands of derivative 3rd party attempts to recapture said lightning in the bottle.

Honestly.. the biggest issue for me is the cheaters.
I have never, EVER cared about cheaters in any game I've ever played but ever since g0at put out the video I just gave up.
I don't know why people seem to think that what BSG did in response somehow fixes the issue..
They had tweeted plenty of times in the past that Battleeye banned "X" amount of cheaters.. people still cheat.
Now I can tell of someone I reported got banned? Great! What does that exactly do to combat cheating?
How does that stop people from actually cheating? What does that do to combat the actual underlying issue?
I played 1 raid after that video came out and immediately could not play it the way I used to.
Even IF less than 60% (the value g0at gave) of the player base are cheating it just changed how I feel and think about other players in general.
In the past, I would easily just chalk up sketchy deaths to the game's netcode and bugs.. but not I just can't make those excuses anymore.
I seriously don't know what BSG would need to do to change this.. but they need to do SOMETHING.

Regarding strength and endurance - I've been saying it for a long time, in the lowest levels your character feels way too weak and in the highest levels they feel way too powerful. They should retain the same level 1-50 skill range and the time it takes to level it up, but the actual values in terms of weight being able to carry, running speed, stamina drain etc etc etc should be adjusted to sit within the current levels 20-30. The extremely sluggish and weak early levels will be gone and the coked out superhuman levels as well, while still retaining a somewhat realistic progression.

My biggest issue with the game has been the gameplay loop. I always wanted a persistent open world like the old arma mods I use to play. in fact thats how i even found out about this game back in the day, was from my arma buds. I just have way too many raids that go like this-
You take a couple minutes gearing up, wait 15 minutes to load into customs. then find you spawned in the far back corner of customs, behind the trailer park.
You hear shots go off at big red, check it out and you find 4 dead bodys.
You run to dorms to try to ketch who ever survived that fight at big red, only to find all the doors open, and the car extract has been taken.
You then see ZB-013 is activated, so you sprint over to try to get some action.
You get there, find a dead Reshala, dead guards and 3 more dead PMC's... and god damn it, the ZB-013 door is unlocked and open so you know its been taken.
Well fuck, maybe theres like 1 more team left?
You sprint over to ZB-1011 and find that ones been open and taken too.
You do some quick math and realize every team is either dead or extracted.
You then think "maybe ill wait for some player scavs?"... naaaah, my ammo is worth $1200 a shot. Fuck I shoulda just ran some cheaper ammo.
You then just decide to extract so you can try again.....back to the 15 minutes lobby wait.

Even ambushing an opponent like putting several round into the back of there head they still just tanked the hits whipped around and one shot me or had friends who would relentlessly push me and not much i can do when they can eat everything i throw at them. This was a demoralizing experience. I then went and did tons of research on the games fundamental mechanics and realized just how jacked up this game is. Its slightly better now since you can buy more stuff from early game traders but the mosin is your only reliable means of dropping people late wipe with shotguns and the ppsh coming as a close second. @NaderinZim Год назад +1

It should be the opposite, no high tier ammo and armor from traders, let the guns be what they are, and when it comes to the flea, it wouldn't matter one way or the other, the problem right now is that you have to grind the Traders to be competitive, just so you can have ammo and armor to dumpster on casuals, while having a fighting chance against tryhards, so you pretty much don't start playing the game until you have class 4 armor and 40 pen ammo in a semi-auto gun, which takes at least till Prapor 3 for you to get, that's too long for the average player to be invested, and that's why people quit 2/3 weeks into a wipe.

Limiting tryhards with high tier loot should be done by limiting the amount of high end gear available after unlocking the items at traders. E.g. Best guns in the game you can only buy one a week. Highest tier ammo maybe 90 rounds a week. You get your chance at outgunning others, but once you die it's back to the mid tier with everyone else

    • @NaderinZim

@@TheBonkening Ammo with more than 30 pen shouldn't be on traders, period. That's what makes people quit, no one cares if you have a full pimp-out SR-25, only about the ammo that you shoot. Limiting how much they can buy doesn't matter, because they can STILL BUY IT. I'm not saying "make traders obsolete", but if they removed tier 5 and 6 armor from traders, removed all ammo that has more than 30 pen from traders (and raised the amount and how often good ammo spawns from ammo crates), we literally wouldn't be on this situation where casual can only have a fighting chance by playing mosin man, at best. The “Two Wipe Cycle” I have named it has been around for a long time. And the expectation of having a big patch coinciding with a wipe has been made for years now. Adding gold weapons, or even adding rank or metals on an outfit to show the status of yourself or the status of a killed player.. this info Nikita could use as well to spot cheaters. Adding character unlocks as you prestige to open an area that has higher bosses and enemies like a lighthouse setup would be another great option on the map.
I think people need rewards even if they are dumb to feel like they achieved something hence why the drop in players happens each year along with not feeling like it's one-sided when it takes them longer to get good gear than someone else that has the time to put into that already have it.

I am excited to see how the game develops and the changes being made are small steps towards a brighter future. I think what will change is when the maps get united and you are required to travel point to point. It will be more work to have to travel through a couple maps to get from Shoreline to Interchange for example. This would make the quests take much longer to complete as you would have to run multiple maps to complete them.
I think the biggest issues this wipe are the audio and flashlights. I am just hoping the Unity switch will help fix these but it is good to see they are aware of them and it is meant to be addressed. It will be nice to get flashlights that dont bleed through floors/walls as well as not shine even when off. Being able to hear a scav shift side to side a floor above you through concrete is pretty amazing but its seriously broken. I do like the idea of a Prestige system though, but would be more fitting once the game has released. As of now you just have people no lifing the game and getting Kappa and having nothing to do afterwards except daily quests. Atleast there are those. But seriously people just need to slow themselves down and make the progression last so they arent done with the content in the first month of wipe.

8:59 This right here is Tarkov's biggest long term problem. My personal solution would be to have trader stock be randomized and constantly changing per trader reset so you don't always have acces to all the best items at all times. This would make it so that even the highest levels of players would sometimes with bad trader RNG have to run near stock weapons, and if you want to run a meta gun with all the best parts you'd really have to save up for it by either keeping an eye on the traders often for good parts to pop up or finding the parts in raid. Obviously the flea market is still a thing, not sure about the best solution for that but maybe give it a limit on how many items you can buy per day from the flea.

Im not realy plaing tarkow tried it and during my playtime i didnt realy hawe problem with player jugernouts -- what maked me quit the game all the time i played was mission timer it maked me feel like i just had to go straight to the extraction just in case i got stuck in drawn out shoot out / sniper battle -- i play a lot of hunt showdown instead because it feels for me a lot more relaxed ( that i can take my time) while the tarkov is kinda more like rush game where you need to pick up 1 point you want to wisit and then you hawe to extract because your timer runing out😅

While the prestige system is a possible long term goal, from how you describe the core issue just matchmaking would be the bandaid for the short term. If servers queued players at similar levels they would face challenges appropriate to their level keeping their interest for longer. I know people have been against this in the past but just how he describes the issue highlights this fix more than his suggested fix.

I like to think that availability for high tier items is currently pushed to allow for testing and that on release of the 'story mode' in the final game they will make good loot much, much harder to find. I hope it comes to a point that we will find players using more repaired items, interesting scopes and mods on shitty guns, running around with a nice vest but a worthless helmet etc. This will keep the game interesting and engaging in the long term. If they can make it genuinely rare - and therefore exciting - to find a nice gun or kit item on a downed PMC/Scav and you think twice about taking it out in a raid it will bring the game loop back into a good place.
Remember that feeling when you first played, that absolute fear of losing the small amount of gear you had. That's why you kept playing and pushing yourself.
I also think (as an EoD player myself) that the stash size we have makes the game a little easier in the early game. I think the Stash upgrades should be free to EoD's but placed under a level cap. So the costs are covered but the early gameplay is levelled out. If you have an equally small stash size you can't hoard ammo/rigs/mods/mission items. Decisions need to be made about what you keep and what you must sell exacerbating gear fear.

I pretty sure this wipe was more of a test for high end gear, I didn't find it insane to get high gear but FK me the amount of found in raid mp7s I was finding this was way too ridiculous.
This was a much easier wipe for me personally even considering I have not played in years. I think the biggest problem is how easy it was to make money this wipe. I barely touched scav (and scav streets was just raking in the cash) and I was always well off. I'm a spender, I'm the guy who dumps a few hundred grand just to make my bolty look cool 😅 but money was never an issue. You run out grab a mp18 and go do a few runs and and make a few mill. And this was with 2-3 other people in the squad so the loot is quartered. Reduce the money making will reduce the overall top tier loot

Appreciate your take on the current situation and I totally agree. It's nice to see that you have come to a different opinion after all this time and admit it honestly. My respect!
I'm not a "hardcore" Tarkov player but I play it since almost 5 years now and never missed to play after a wipe. But for me this patch with Streets ruined it and I will skip a few of the next wipes. Maybe the fun will return.
After so many wipes it became more clearer to me that there is no diversity in a loadout. That’s my main point of not playing the game anymore.
Almost every time I reach lvl 42 with all traders unlocked and over 12 mil. rubel there is no limit in the loadouts.
BUT I can't build loadouts I like. If you like to compete at this point of the wipe you need! meta guns. And for me the overall look of them is just awful. We have a dozen foregrips, pistol grips, buttstocks and so on. But IMHO we buy at low level 1 or max. 2 i.e for the foregrip and 1 or 2 at max level either you want high ergo or low recoil. The other 20ish foregrips are just for the flee or trader sells. The foregrip (Fortis) I like the most has more than 50% less recoil reduction then the bis counterparts. In combination with other mods, I prefer the reduction in ero and recoil is significant. Therefore, I am "forced" to buy a laser beam meta gun and that su**s. Somehow, I think this will never change.

A cool idea would be the system implemented in diablo, where you have 2 characters, one for each "season wipe" that resets everytime, and one that doesnt reset, but with prestige system implemented like you said in the video, as you said. there is so much potential to the game if only some creativity plays in. ive never been more addicted to any game than this, and just think of it when it finally releases.. i dont think it ever will haha

I really like the ideas of prestiging in Tarkov. I also think a combination of massively reducing how much loot is in a map, adding dynamic loot, and nixing flea market would improve the life cycle of the game. I also do like that once you are out with the loot that your stuff is safe. I think the traders should be in a neutral zone across different maps, and you have to bring it to them to sell and you could use your container to secure your money. I also agree that the soft skills need to be reworked and even come up with different ones that do not have a direct impact on your ability to survive a gunfight.

I have fiber and build a new computer every 2 years but I think best part of wipe is actually 2nd to 4th week.
First week servers lag and wait/sync/load times are quadrupled.
By second week servers loads are balanced but everyone still grinding levels.

  • @Roachyyy

You are totally right Deadly, there's a replayability issue and there is also a player retention issue, both shortly after a wipe and far into one. There's little to no reason to keep playing when queue times are almost 10 minutes long only to die to a chad shortly after getting in the game. There's no reason to play long into a wipe because not only is barely anyone playing compared to the start of wipe, there's no real reason to get to "the end". I think a prestige system would be great in this game, give those who want to grind a reason to restart. Give those who are grinding a reason to keep grinding other than Kappa which players may or may not get due to RNG.

I think something that is insanely important for this game, is keeping the new players in long enough so they actually get a taste at winning. When i started playing this game I gave up in the first month becuase i wasnt seeing any of the upsides of playing (was getting destroyed every raid), it was only when i saw what winning was like on yt that i was enticed to keep trying. I think if we can give every new player a taste of winning before they quit, it will retain so many new players in the game. I think one way this could be easily done is have a map that is locked to like level 15 and below. I would love to see something like this, it would also give players that start mid wipe an insane chance of getting hooked in as most veterans would be well past level 15 at that point.

I would love to see a hardcore/iron man server where flea is removed and most of the good trades are taken away except for barters. Leave basic gear and meds purchasable with cash but anything mid or high tier a barter you have to find for your self. I think this would really fix the staleness

the strength/endurance comment hit me in my feels...yeah. im a dad of 3 and im barely at lvl31 since w/start. tomorrow i have my 400 raid . in what time should i lvl shit. it just got ridiculous

They should add a game mode where everyone is a scav and the only way to get a meta build in the match is to take it from one (maybe more) of the bosses on the map, or there are keys that are specifically for that map that spawn in the game giving player’s incentives to go to places of interest that have a chance of giving the player a better gun, gear, meds etc.

I really want to play this game, and I’ve owned it for years but I’ve never really been able to enjoy the experience. I feel like there are so many cool guns and pieces of kit available that I, as a casual player, will never get the chance to use. The only time I’ve entered a raid with a semi-decent load out (or even had a chance to kit out a 416) was during a pre-wipe event. I’m not sure the player base is receptive to this complaint, but that’s ultimately why I don’t really play the game anymore.
