First bike I owned. I bought mine secondhand and a little bit tatty. It served me well for a couple of years, but always needed a bit of work which gave me experience for other projects. My friend had a lovely RD200 which looked much better, but surprisingly the little 185 was a bit quicker. Sold it to buy a KH250 which was my first love, I always regarded the 185 as a basic commuter. Funny how they are going up in value.

The GT185 EX was the final model before being replaced by the GT200 X5.
The GT185 EX had the problematic Nippon Denso CDI & cast wheels. A mate had one in the mid 1980's. When the CDI ignition inevitably failed, I used a model railway Guagemaster solenoid points motor CD unit to replace the knackered CDI unit. At £15, it worked out over £400 cheaper than the Suzuki replacement part as a repair. (Yes, one does need to be an electronics engineer to understand how to perform this complex fix!!).
The bike eventually broke it's engine and was broken up for parts for other projects. I still have the wheels in my garage as the GT185 EX shares the same forks & wheels as the GT250 X7 (which I owned at the time). The front mudguard from the GT185 EX replaced the one on my X7 in an effort to cure the notorious fork flexing & handling issues that all X7's have. It improved things a but it was never ever going to be as quick steering & stable in corners as an RD or CZ, so I sold it on for £50 (That's all that an X7 was worth back in 1985 with a new MOT ticket & new tax disc!!).

The GT185 puts out closer to 20 HP, not 15 HP.
    The GT125 is 16 HP.

Fair enough if we all liked the same things manufacturers would not give us all the choices we have
