  • Where to find the thermostat on a 1997 Subaru Outback Legacy wagon with a 2.5 liter motor. The car's temperature was unstable, Then it overheated. The thermostat was the first concern.

    Thanks for this short video.
Did you have a reduction in gas milage as well with a bad thermostat?

Looks like a big difference between the cheap thermostat you put in compared to the actual Subaru, to specks, thermostat you tossed. I have a real cheap one a home mechanic put in my car and now planning on having the right thermostat put in as it's overheating very badly. Anyone know how to get rid of sloshing sound of air under the dash in the coolant line? That mechanic said the air would just go out on its own and it hasn't. The coolant got so hot I could hear it boiling.

I've been researching the Subaru Forester ('09) and I'm curious to know how many head gasket repairs you've had to do since installing this aftermarket thermostat?

I think you might be confused...replacing the thermostat allows the cooling system to work properly, reducing the chances of blowing a head gasket. Additionally, the number of head gaskets a particular car has blown through is known as "anecdotal evidence" either for or against that general car. You may want to do your research on Consumer Reports, Edmunds, etc. RUclips is probably the worst place to research a car.

I think he's talking about the problems some have reported with cheap thermostats. The very short ones reportedly open late because the hot coolant circulates through a bypass port above it.

I have a Subaru outback with a 2.5 .What is the normal temperature ?mine is allways halfway.,i realy would like to be cooler...?

Never cheap out with thermostat, in a Subaru. If you get a small head gasket leak, the hot gas in cooling system will cause the thermostat to not open..then the water pump will fail, and you will be sitting along side the road..im removing my 2.5 right now,,head gaskets, water pump,,and the best thermostat there is...
