  • What is an Air Change?
An air change is how many times the air enters and exits a room from the HVAC system in one hour.
    (Or)
How many times a room would fill up with the air from the supply registers in sixty minutes.
What is the Air Changes Formula?
How to calculate room Air changes?
    To calculate room air changes,
    1. Measure the supply airflow into a room (CFM -Cubic feet / minute)
(we’re changing CFM into Cubic Feet per Hour (CFH))
    2. Calculate the volume of the Room - Length x Width x Height
3.Then we have to divide the CFH by the volume of the room
What if you don’t know Air flow of the room, then how to calculate the required CFM for a room?
Required CFM = Volume of the Room x Air changes per hour
    60 minutes
Let’s say it’s a Family living room or office room requiring 6-8 air changes per hour.
Use the Air Changes per Hour Table to identify the required air changes needed for the use of the room.
    2) Calculate the volume of the room
    (L’xW’xH’)
    3) Multiply the volume of the room by the required room air changes.
    4) Divide by 60 minutes per Hour to find the required room CFM:
