Four Songs, Op. 13: IV. Nocturne
Text by Frederic Prokosch
Nocturne
Close my darling both your eyes,
Let your arms lie still at last.
Calm the lake of falsehood lies
And the wind of lust has passed,
Waves across these hopeless sands
Fill my heart and end my day,
Underneath your moving hands
All my aching flows away.
Even the human pyramids
Blaze with such a longing now:
Close, my love, your trembling lids,
Let the midnight heal your brow,
Northward flames Orion's horn,
Westward th' Egyptian light.
None to watch us, none to warn
But the blind eternal night.

Hardly gets better than this song in the art song repertory for me. 'None to watch us, none to warn' is glorious, and it's just an excellent rendition from you, Lisette - so glad we have many years of your singing to look forward to!
I love her beautiful cristal voice and amazing interpretation, her dress as well.

Beautiful,
albert combrink thank you it’s one of my favorite songs, the whole group is!
Well I discovered you on RUclips and went and bought all your albums on iTunes! You have a BIG FAN in South Africa! Look forward to many more hours in the company of your voice - even if only via electronic means!
So sweet! I hope to have the chance to sing there someday!!
MAGNIFICENT!
Good gracious. I admire your singing so much. What an absolute delight to hear you interpret this piece.
Wow...
very beautiful. Miking seems a bit remote, would have loved to hear a studio recording . Live recordings are a total black art. Still lovely interpretation.
What key is this in? Please help a girl out :)
D sharp minor (it’s the high voice version)
