When I was a teenager in the 90's I had to have everything Pumpkins. Including this soundtrack. Always gonna be a fan of their undeniably beautiful music!
I had everything I could get my hands on. I used to cut school and go to the library and print out uk articles about them from microfiche and put them all in a scrapbook lol. I wish I still had it.
I remember receiving this as a Christmas gift in 1993, right before I turned 12. My "cool" cousin, who lived in downtown San Frnacisco gave it to me and I must have listened to is a thousand times. This song brings back a lot of nostalgia...
Keep Resting In Peace, Glynis. You must have been a beautiful person to have inspired one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. Thanks, Smashing Pumpkins.
shane armendinger the only other track that comes close, I agree, is "Hold On". It's the only album I can find that version of that particular track too.
I met Glynis Johnson in 1977 when she walked into my record store. We became good friends and she moved in with me after college. I played bass and she picked it up and fell in love. She moved to Portland in 79, then back to Chicago and played bass for Friends of Betty/Red Red Meat. The last time I got to see her was when Friends of Betty backed up Hawkwind in Chicago before she passed away. She was a real sweetheart, kind hearted, and I miss her more than words can say. RIP honey....I will always love you
I didn't by this compilation when it came out because I wasn't into most of the acts on it, but I ended up missing this song. I'm 30 years late, but I'm here now ❤

@@analoglee supposedly it's about Glynis Johnson, a Chicago based musician whom he had met and died of AIDS. I believe it's got something to do with fear of HIV and people "burying their heads in the sand" instead of educating themselves or understanding a disease beyond their prejudices.
The Smashing Pumpkins were the soundtrack to my life through the 90s. I was 20 when Gish came out in '91, and had my mind blown. From that moment i had to have everything they produced. This particular song, from the NoAlternative album, reminds me of a very specific time when i first moved to London and i had no job, no money and no direction. I remember playing this song endlessly on my CD walkman as I trudged around looking for work because it filled me with hope, optimism and the dreams of getting my life on track.
So many early 90s nights sitting around the bong with friends listening to the grunge of the era -- cool stuff but let's face it, there was a lot of droning sameness. This CD was in the mix for a while, and a signal came out of the static. This song, man.
Glynis Johnson of the Chicago based band Red Red Meat (bassist), lost her battle with AIDS in 1992. She was in a long term relationship with RRM founder and songwriter Tim Rutili. Her, Billy, and Tim were friends.
Glynis was in the bands Friends of Betty and Red Red Meat before she passed away. Rip to Glynis, Vic Chesnut, and all the ones we had the pleasure to share this piece of the universe with. 🖤
Something about the end of this song (maybe it's the harmonica) always vaguely reminded me of the Northern Exposure theme. My favorite band at the time reminding me of my favorite show at the time.
Pretty sure this song is about Glynis Johnson, late bassist in Red Red Meat and girlfriend of Meat singer Tim Rutili. Such a beautiful ode to a lovely woman; too bad Billy fucked it all up when he re-recorded it for the deluxe reissue of the Pumpkins' Pisces Iscariot.
House Of Grooves yeah I just heard that newer mix and had to come here to find the original and cleanse my ears. This version is one of my top ten favorite SP songs ever. Just beautiful.
My Dutch-ass parents just wanted me to have a Welsh name to have to repeat myself at least twice before anyone here in Holland gets it right. Should have a recording of Billy on my phone saying “her name is Glynis”
got this CD today for 50 cents at the local record shop. best 50 cents i ever spent. this song blows my mind.
Meowsy Score my friend.
Got my copy for a dollar at the thrift store
I bought it new when it came out. Years later i found it at goodwill for $1. Such a great comp
My favorite Pumpkins song.
You might like the hidden track. Track 19.
This og mix is way better than the new mix on Pisces Box set. Great vibe here.

me too. including many bside albums that were hard to find and expensive.
Undeniable
same here aagaahhaah still love this compilation!!

Man that such an awesome story, love it
@@sebdetyra651 thanks! It's a great song/album!
Your cousin is cooler than most people
I wasn’t disappointed looking up my name ...
Yay! Cool name sis!
Damn!! If only had thought of this in 2003 with my kid instead I named her Ava after Ava adore
Neither was I!
Oh Yeah.
So jealous of your name
Obscured and Glynis shoulda been on siamese dream for sure

Easily the best track on this compilation. A reminder too of how generous the Pumpkins are when it comes to supporting worthy causes
xxrichelle33xx Easily? It's beautiful but there's some others on here thst are unreal also. " hold on" , " sappy", superdeformed, uncle tupelo...
shane armendinger the only other track that comes close, I agree, is "Hold On". It's the only album I can find that version of that particular track too.
I like Iris alot too, but beautiful it isn't lol.

thanks dude

never too late yo
Crazy to think this came out 30 years ago. Soundtrack of my youth.
Here's a name you cannot forget
Her name is Glynis, yes
And with these tears of respect
Conforms a sadness
For anyone who's ever lost
One who's dearest, and the love of a friend
On our worried knees
Given to all beliefs
Scarecrows and disease haunt us all
Ooh, bury your heads in the sand
Ooh, bury your heads
So have we stumbled from grace
Are we being punished for fate
My god is subtle and great
He can't be wounded
By the gossip and the hate of the frightened
Who took their paths on the sand, yeah
Fear that grips us all
Gives us an awful sound
Can't help anything but ourselves
Ooh, bury your head in the sand
Ooh, bury your head, yeah
Ooh, bury your head
Ooh, I believe in one love
Ooh, I believe in one love
Ooh, I believe in one love
Yeah, yeah
What's the meaning behind these lyrics ? I think I hate it and I'd like to read the opinion of others.

guitar breakout at 3:10 is pure bliss

My favorite all time guitar solo....
This was one of my favorite songs for a long g long time. Thanks for the memories.
great tune. i played bass on this track with my high school jazz band back in '97.
Awesome. This song lives in my high school heart
This was one of my favorite tracks off the whole album.
loved this track as a very, very young kid---lots of play on my walkman.
The 3:10 guitar is just so original... Fucking love that shit!!
Completely blows away the 2012 remixed version. This is a great song.
thank you!
So totally! I came here to find this after not realizing the 2012 version was SO DIFFERENT. This is so much better
Tbh I find the 2012 mix better
These are facts. The remix is such a bummer, kills almost all of the magic.
Smashing Pumpkins have always had interesting tracks even if they weren’t always hit songs. 🎃

I still have this CD. I was 12 or 13 and loved this song the first time I heard it.
Obsessed with this song as a kid.
Aww:'(
Bring me back to the 90's
I think I read long ago that Billy wrote this song about a friend of his who died of AIDS. It’s such a sad but beautiful song.

Killer track
Takes me back to childhood !
This one and Iris are fucking great
sweet sweet
the best song I ever heard
In my Top 100
Its amazing 😊
i love this so much
This is the only version that is the best! Can’t find it anywhere else
what a great song
Omg didn't know there was a song in my name!
Apple Music region locked this song where I am so this is the only way I can listen to it
Here's a name you cannot forget
Her name was Glynis, yeah.
The live version is the best.
The 2012 mix on pisces reissue...no. This version... yes. One of their best.
Fuck it, their best song.
And I’m one the biggest pumpkins fans there is
This and “Starla” are probably my two favorites.
I prefer the 2012 remix. Fan since '92.

This too is my favorite on the compilation, but Eitzel's was pretty great too. Can anyone please upload that one?
It's up: American Music Club - All my jeans were too tight
Good find brother!!
The drumming reminds me of “darling nikki”.
Glynis is a feminine name of Welsh origin. Reply if you are Welsh ~

This song sounds like 'Santa Fe/Beautiful Obsession' by Van Morrison.
I can here it too .
Scarecrows and Disease...
Haunt us all
Such a 90s ass cd cover lol
