I disagree with Tim regarding families and miles. That's a huge trap. People with a family tend to end up redeeming economy class flights because they don't have enough for business class redemption for the whole family. If you were to convert the economy class redemption value into the dollar equivalent, you'd likely find that you might be better off with cashback cards. Miles are generally best used for long-haul business/first class flights, not economy (there are exceptions). But saving for it might take too long - especially for families - for something that doesn't earn interest and can only devalue. I've seen many people fall into this trap.
