Great detail information. My captiva has started leaking oil on turbo area. No error codes yet. No bad symptoms yet. No excessive smoke yet. No dripping oil on floor. How do I make sure my turbo is spinning? Thanks
Thanks mate...I'd start by accessing the front housing and just feel if the compressor whel is free and without and free play back and forth or side to side
What a palaver just to get that out of there. I've heard of 3 turbos dying in the last few days. One of them went out after only 70k km. I still prefer displacement to pressure. Thanks for letting us take a look.
Currently removing my turbo, such a pain and with no experience but out of curiosity and the help of your video. Found it very effective and helpful. Thanks very much. 👍
Thanks Zig for this vid , i just took out the turbocharger for my 2008 captiva , should i check the EGR also ? Before i took the turbo out the code was that there was insufficient flow in the EGR, and i also saw the turbo leaking oil .
I've got a 2008 Captiva and turbo seized up 2 years ago. Had it replaced and had PDF cleaned. Now turbo seizing up again. Regularly serviced and wouldn't recommend a Captiva to anyone.
hi zig, my diesel captiva have excessive white smoke, no power, cannot rev rpm, hard start, sometimes throw P0100 code. oil all over intake pipes. do u thinknits same turbo problem like yours? thanks
I don't think so mate...That's a MAF code...Give it a clean and make sure the connections are good...See how ya go...Mite even need a new Maf...BTW Diesels have lots of blow-by and that's why.
Thanks heaps for sharing this video! I'm now subscribed! My daughter just bought a 2009 Cruze and I've found oil under the turbo, so reckon the issue you were fixing is the same issue she has, and now I'll be able to fix it thanks to you mate!
Hi my Captiva Diesel is bellowing out with smoke from the tailpipe and I've noticed oil around the turbo area ,it randomly started happening does this sound like a turbo issue
Well done ZIG. I bet that diesel was blowing black smoke and tripping all kind of lights on the dash. They are lucky more trash didn't run through the engine. Take care
@@ziggassedup I had to order a new turbo it came today so I’m just waiting to book my car in . It was squealing so bad plus a month before that I had check engine light on as well
Hi there Zig, I don’t look at car vids ordinarily but got on here because I bought a 2009 Holden Captiva and kept it serviced, I did miss one service that I remember, it seemed like it was in good condition, in 2015 ? 2016 the car started blowing black smoke, I took it to get checked and they said the turbo had gone and the diesel particulate filter. I had never had a car that I’d paid more than $10,000 for and don’t recall any major issues with any until this one which I spent the most on. Should the turbo go do you think after a missed service ? It’s now not able to be driven and not sure if it was me or the car I’m just devastated it cost so much and don’t have the money to replace it I have to borrow my mothers car to drive my daughter to school... any answers ? Thanks 🙏
G'day Huss..I don't think missing one service would have been why the turbo failed mate...Craptiva have a bad rep for failures in both the Diesel and V6's unfortunately...I'll guess the K's on the clock are fairly low....They have trouble in the transmissions too....I feel for you bud...I think I paid $600 for a new Garrett bolt on turbo and it took a couple of hours to do the job...Sorry I don't have any good news...DPF's choking up are showing up more often and they can be wickedly expensive..Some cost more than the vehicle is worth...(2008 Sante-fe DPF from Hyundai was $9,000.!!) Good luck with it mate.
ZIGgassedUP oh do you know what I thought this myself, it will apparently cost $12,000 to have someone fix it all. Yes that’s right...I can’t believe it, I didn’t think a missed service would’ve caused a major issue, I’ve read articles saying if you drive them too fast and I’m not a lead foot but I do drive on the side of rushing but then I thought, no surely an expensive car like this is built to be driven... I’m not sure what to do, I think I may contact Holden because it may not be a lot of money to some but that kind of money is huge for me and I’m a single mum, I’ll not be able to afford anything in that price range again, not that I can see at this stage. Thanks Zig, know any good repairers in Victoria ???
ZIGgassedUP hi Zig if your still interested my car has done around 127,000 ks I can’t check exactly because the battery looks like it’s flat but that’s when it was next due to be serviced and that was recorded at the last service a month or so before the turbo went, thanks again zig 🤝
Hey my 2009 capitva 2ltre deisel TURBO auto bought from new driven everyday lasted 390 000 kms now the turbo has stopped working in 2024!!!! JUST SAYING... 😅
Where the symptoms just low power and smoke? I have one these and we are upto the third turbo. First symptom was white smoke and Holden replaced. Second was low power and again low power. Thinking it may just be that electronic box??? Not the compete turbo? Any thoughts?

Every time I see a Craptiva on the road I shake my head. Who TF would buy one? Do you think that engine is likely to have a partially/blocked EGR and oil pickup? From what I just saw, I think it's highly likely. cheers.

Hi, how do you understand "turbo seizing up" ?
PDF? Lol
Wow, I was thinking it looked like a handful of gravel went thru that turbo, but it just kept getting worse. Wild that the shaft broke.
The owner said it had been running poorly for about a year.!!
I wonder if it was close to a run on problem with it pumping a lot of oil in there.
Quite possible to lead to a "run away" situation... Cheers Scott.
