The video is a masterpiece! She portrays a creature of the dessert who depicts lonelines, anguish, sorrow. Amazing.

Unlike most [ but not all ] of today's music , artists had a much better ability to switch to different types and styles of music. This is why you are constantly surprised by the range of music that you are listening to from these great artists of previous generations. They were prepared to change with the times , that's why they are still around today. Madonna is the perfect example of this , the ultimate chameleon.

Madonna is the Queen of Reinvention. Listening to her in different stages in her career is like listening to a completely new artist. She's always been really good at not getting boring or predictable with her art

Madonna was always using her talent and creativity to push the boundaries in every direction.
I can see how this might seem "creepy" on the surface but this actually coincides with the period when Madonna was exploring her spirituality. She grew up Catholic but in the mid 90s she began to broaden her spiritual understanding by studying other beliefs, including the mystical branch of Hebrew philosophy known as Kabbala.
The first thing I thought of when I saw the video was the Shekhinah, Chokhmah, and the Christian Gnostic Sophia. It's too complicated to go into with a YoTube comment, but if you look up those terms it may provide you with a better understanding of what I think she was going for.
Unfortunately, some people's public interpretations and oppinions have muddled the actual intent of the artist.

People used to dismiss her as a pop diva or vulgar sensationalist - they have no idea the depths of this woman as reflected in her 40+ year canon. She has covered it all,.

The music video is pure art it's obviously a painting. When I was younger I thought the music video is creepy too but as I grow up studying in an art school I understand why artists do these stuff in their music videos sometimes

This song and video marked a new direction for her sound after the birth of her first daughter. She was exploring spirituality and the Kabbalah. The early days of CGI with the shape shifting in the video,

That was really fun watching your reaction. Every era brought a new Madonna - that is part of her long lasting appeal and legacy...and, the 90's solidified that more then ever. Starting with one of the biggest selling 'Best of albums', the additional track Justified My love on The Immaculate Collection announced a new Madonna. Then another new, more extreme and shocking Madonna for the Erotica Album then changing again with the album Bedtime Stories but Ray of light, which Frozen is from re-catapulted her back to mega-stardom. Each video from Ray of Light is a different Madonna yet all in tune with the masterpiece album that won multiple grammys including album of the year. And even more successfully with her next album and single as the decade ended - Music. Looking forward to all reactions to her 90's videos.

I wish I was 19 again and hadn't heard all these gems before..
Love your reaction as always Chase! Keep em up! 🙂

A masterpiece like others have already said. I think haunting is a far better word to describe the video rather than “ creepy” it’s definitely not Christian ( which is what im guessing threw you off) it’s definitely mystical, and it’s hailed across the board as one of her most beautiful, painfully angst song. The strings alone are gorgeous. She’s definitely not just a pop star, shes an artist that crosses genres and set the template for the pop stars that followed

    • @brt5273
      @brt5273 10 месяцев назад +1

I wouldn't say it's necessarily not Christian. Definitely not MAINSTREAM but if you study Christian Gnosticism, which is descended from the Hebrew Kabbalah, you may see there actually are links to Christian/Hebrew Mysticism.

The song is about her journey through spiritual growth, peace and transformation, which is depicted artistically throughout the video with the ravens and the dog, etc..........She has also used elements of Eastern philosophy throughout the video as well. Alot of people misconstrue the video as being dark and somewhat evil or witchcraft when in actuality it is the complete opposite sharing the message of light, growth and love....... hence the words " you only see what your eyes want to see". Now that you know all of that, you should re watch the video and I'm sure you will feel differently.

I really miss when music was good enough that the artist could breathe for a moment or two and allow the musical artists to do their part. Used to happen all the time in the past. Now they just have a genetic music track that the artist goes "Wah-wah-wah-wah..." over til the end 😟

Very influenced by Bjork, who worked a lot with Nellee Hooper, and Hooper produced Madonna's song "Bedtime Story" before Madonna's Ray of Light album, which is much more electronic than anythign she'd really done prior.

The video reminds me of 'Hecate' who in Greek mythology was a goddess of both good and evil.

The video portrays a powerful witch showcasing abilities like levitation, shape-shifting, replicating and drawing blood from ground with her hands. Paired with the song, it tells a story of this incredible love she feels for someone that is holding on to a lot of negative emotions. The anger and hatred that is won't let go of is preventing them from being together. Despite the extraordinary powers that has, she's completely powerless over his emotional barriers. I see it as a dark modern fairy tale for adults, that happens to be a really sad love story that far closer to reality than one would think.
