Naval historical Italy was unironically one of the most fun games of HOI4 I ever played. Maneuvering around and using your limited resources to both hold Ethiopia and slowly take the Mediterranean really feels strategic regardless of AI goofiness.

22:28 I noticed that the 6th ship in the line, a Heavy Cruiser of Imperial Russia, is called Stalingrad. Which is funny when we think about the fact, that you killed Stalin in the Civil War.😂
Love that the game accuratly represents that carrier basically redifined to its core naval warfare and made BB & CH obsolete (and useless) in less than a year of combat. I mean against the AA of that era a good plane and a well trained pilot could do anything it wanted (more or less).
Tip for building fortlines to save ic, build 2 forts on plains/hill tiles and 1 on forest or swaps or mts till you are at 4/2 and that will generally hold perfectly. Maybe if you are really worried about a strong opponent go 6/3

I discovered in my last KX playthrough that you can give a navy MIO the policy for +25% max range and +1 deck size, which allows the MIO to be applied to carrier designs. I'm not sure if this works in vanilla however :(
I give you a suggestion for when you don't know what bonus to pick in navy. in combat among capital ships and crusiers, only Armor vs Penetration matter. SO I would always pick advisors or bonuses to increase that. Also, for admirals, the defense part is a bonus to armour, so you should always pick calculated restraint as the 20 xp navy trait and favour admirals with higher defence. Attack is good only if you can 100% penetrate the enemy ship, hence for subs
ofc bonuses for carriers are different: you should prioritize the bonuses against bad weather penalty to avoid getting useless carriers if the fight in a storm (that gives horrible debuffs). I am not sure all the 2% air aviation bonuses how good are they

You are trolling right? You do not want to upgrade/refit major components like armor, main turret, engine. It increases the refit time massively. Only upgrade secondary armament, radar, fire control to have a quick refit turn around.
There have been a lot of changes in navy during the several years of existence of the Hearts of Iron 4 videogame. Things that used to be bad to do are now good to do. With all of the changes that have happened, a lot of old metas mostly don't work anymore, or else have changed substantially. Something that is kind of always true is that a group of aircraft carriers with a close enough to full load of planes are king during the daytime, while capital ships are at least valuable at night, and light cruisers are good at long distance operations whether during daytime or nighttime. Also speed is important, but armor is important as well. There is a balance between speed and armor that often changes when a new version or DLC of Hearts of Iron 4 comes out. Short version: People who claim to be experts in Hearts of Iron 4 navy often used to be experts - until some new version of Hearts of Iron 4 ruined their meta and made them no longer experts. As such, take shouts of "That's not the way to do navy!" with a lot of proverbial grains of salt.

Never EVER refit the engine on a ship, the IC cost is insane. At 6k IC out of 9.5k for a whole new ship you're better off with the extra ship.
