    "Elections don't work"
Yeah, they tend not to when you can't offer the voting public anything they actually want.

      Check out *PROJECT 2025*
This is why we must call for Direct Digital Democracy with neither Parties nor Politicians.
Citizen initiated referendums with thresholds and a social contract means Communities can vote their own laws. As well as a Public Authority to audit police and prosecute bad actors in our own courts.
With the appropriate checks and balances, you could have a national digital forum where qualified professionals can debate the issues in a public setting without all the disinformation and bad faith antics, hatespeech etc.
Any vote would need to pass the 70% threshold, with a veto or _rewrite_ vote needing 30%.
The issues would be debated, the public educated, and then a vote taken. Votes that fail will have to wait a year before trying again. Any new proposal (Citizen Initiated Referendum) would have to reach a threshold of support before it made it onto the register. This would all be subject to a Social Contract (New Constitution) that forbids human rights abuses and discrimination, that can be written in the same manner based on the core principles we all share. Councils and Boards could operate in a similar fashion at Scale.
It works in a way that obligates people to better educate themselves ( that is to use logic and evidence in their reasoning ) for a better understanding of the issues, and then take collective responsibility for the outcomes. As opposed to the divisive US v them scapegoating and bi-partisan finger pointing the current Capitalist Pyramid Scheme runs on.
This can be achieved through a General Strike or Velvet Revolution, much like the Occupy movement, peacefully occupying State Buildings until a People's Mandate can be implemented.
Alternatively candidates could run with the directive to install a Direct Democracy, and therefore wouldn't need to have any policies of their own, they could even be Mascots!
If you agree with these ideas please copy and paste this post, the only ones that can stop them is US, all of us, on the same page, with the goal of a Direct Democracy without Parties or Politicians, for a safer sustainable future for our kids.

This is the classic Perpetual Minority problem. What does a convinced minority do? The choice is either to accept it, or fight. In most societies where people don’t have free access to guns, it’s a fairly academic choice, as that minority can do little harm. Consider the Greens in Britain. The height of their success has been one MP out of 650, which they will probably lose at the next election. So they invent Just Stop Oil to make a modest amount of people quite miserable. But ultimately they’re harmless, like a wasp at a picnic. But your ludicrous Second Amendment gun laws will have to be repealed or you will have civil war. Stupidity plus guns is a recipe for disaster.

My neighborhood Target is the one across from from the 3rd Precinct in Minneapolis. It got burned out and looted, which Target used as an excuse to finally update the store ( previously it had been dingy, urine-scented, and poorly stocked/staffed). Now there were groceries! Murals about lofty community sentiment! For roughly a year, it was kind of nice. Now? Chronically understocked, never more than one, *maybe* two registers open. Tons of stuff locked up, very few people available to open cases, etc. If this is from "crime," you'd kind of think the omnipresent MPD officers would be doing more than standing around. I exchanged emails with a manager who - my reading - implied that they weren't being allowed to staff the store appropriately.
I don't *know* that Target is strangling its own stores, but we should not forget that in recent years they had to do a huge course correction (including big layoffs) for an apparently under-researched, doomed expansion into Canada. I would not be surprised if they've chosen "shoplifting" as partial cover for other embarrassments caused by similar corporate flailing.

That is a negligible number. The kind of number you might get if you put multiple locations in one city, waited to see which was the most profitable and which was the least, and then got rid of the least profitable so they could put stores in other locations in those cities which might end up being more profitable. I guess that really isn't quite as flashy a headline as talking about "rampant theft victimizing the poor multi billion dollar companies." I think mine would be a much more honest headline though.

It's easy to miss how fundamentally racist their entire construction of the world is. "We" didn't know that slavery was wrong, and "we" don't deserve credit for ending slavery. Some people opposed slavery and fought to end it, and those people deserve credit. Some other people owned slaves and fought to maintain slavery - and far more people didn't own slaves but still fought to maintain slavery - and those people deserve no credit. It's impossible to say with certainty, but there's plenty of reason to suspect that Gutfeld doesn't actually believe that slavery was wrong; he just knows that he has to say that it was. That's the problem with thinking of yourself first and foremost as a white person: you want to take credit for every good thing done by any white person, so you have to downplay or ignore bad things done by white people.

Let’s not forget that crime went down after regulators addressed the horrendous amounts of lead being introduced to our bodies.

Crime went down because abortion was legalised in 1972. In the late 80s, after a spike thanks to relaxed gun laws, violent crime began to decline, and has continued to decline. Unwanted children were no longer growing up to become angry, impoverished, uneducated, unemployable teens and adults because the vast majority of unintended pregnancies were being terminated in the first trimester. 15-18 yearß from now, if the corruption of SCOTUS is not corrected, violent crime will start climbing again.

@@thehellyousay I’m a little bit skeptical about some of that, but can see how that might be plausible, though I’m uncertain about whether or not the evidence bears out your conclusion. We know how lead effects the brain. We don’t know what kinds of lives people who never existed would have lived, be they criminals or upstanding citizens. You are kind of implying that a significant number of all unwanted pregnancies lead to persistent criminal conduct of the child once they grow up.

Some of the proudest, happiest moments of my life were when I had to admit I was wrong and that my opinions had been corrupt. I think we're seeing Garfield struggle with something else in the back of his mind: a lot of boomers like him feel they can't abandon Trump now even with worse stories piling up every day because of something to do with their egos and admitting they were wrong.
I cannot imagine the misery of being so emotionally and intellectually stunted and cowardly as a grown adult.

I live in a pretty rough neighborhood, and I rarely lock my doors when I leave. There are crimes in my area, but the victims are usually other people involved in criminal activities.
