    wow! This is priceless footage. The woman (presenting as a woman) who comes up and stands in front of the stage offering the single bill is a powerful moment. I can only imagine what led that woman to that singular moment. I didn't sense disrespec, just total awe and admiration of what she was witnessing. I think she didn't know it was not customary for the musician to touch the money like that. Then when the uncle picks up the stack of money and does the customary showering of wealth in honor of it all, and you can almost see the honor on his face to be able to do that in that moment...again a story for that person that led to that singular moment. I hope to witness these amazing women in person - the energy is inspiring - Thank you for sharing!! (side note, lose the octo-pad)

    Thanks to Andre Antunes(think i got it right) I would have never seen this in my feed.(highly recommend checking out his recreations of a more sound version of this song) These Girls are incredible and Im not sure how to feel about the creepy and awkward people treating them like American strippers with the showereing of money, or the (probably wealthy) woman standing in front of her until she grabbed the money from her hand...Either way, have always been intrigued by Indian culture. Loved this.

    I have to admit that after scouring the internet and listening to alot of these two ladies catalog og music, this is by far my favorite performance of this song and my favorite song of theirs hands down. They say that the qawwali style if it's a style is meant to put the listener into a trance or something like that. It would explain how at least to my Midwestern ears. There isn't alot of actual lyrics with more noise than anything. By noise I just mean singing in pitches vs singing out words. I still really want to know what ali moula,muala means......and while I'm here I can just add that I looked it up. "Almost every Sufi order traces its origin to Muhammad through Ali". Apparently a very important spiritual guide if you will and the words Maula in Arabic has several means of which could include guide, patron, leader, or master. So "ali maula" makes alot more sense now however it is really fascinating the structure of their language. As an English speaking person I read it as written or said which obviously isn't the case it could be interpreted ali master but actual interpretation could be "the master, Ali" or guide or what have you. What's really interesting is when you can understand any of it, you tend to actually use your ears and eyes to understand. I have taken far more from watching them intently and listening than if I understood the language and just heard it.

      completely agree. without focusing on what imagery words put into my head, im just focused on the sounds. the notes they hit as well as the harmonies. the only draw back for me is the drum guy falling behind the beat every so often. the sisters are in the pocket non stop but the drummer be whackin away like an alarm clock for a lot of it lol.

    • @sereysothe.a
      @sereysothe.a Год назад +2

      you are correct, "ali maula" refers to Imam Ali ibn Abu Talib (Ali the son of Abu Talib, who was the brother of Abdullah, Prophet Mohammad's father). Abu Talib was technically Muhammad's uncle, but since Muhammad's father died when he was very young, Abu Talib became Muhammad's adoptive father. Abu Talib's own son Ali (Muhammad's cousin) eventually married Muhammad's daughter Fatima (there was a large age difference between Ali and Muhammad, so he was roughly of Fatima's age). Ali (referred to as Imam Ali by Shia muslims) is a massive figure in Islam and Islamic history, so there's an infinite amount that could be said about him. Notably, he was one of the first converts to Islam when Muhammad received the first revelations, and protected Muhammad when he had to flee from Mecca to Medina to escape persecution from his Quraish tribe who believed that his revelation of Allah, the one god, would damage their monopoly over the pagan pilgrimage routes that used to converge at Mecca. Ali was known as the single strongest warrior in Arabia at that time, exemplified by the famous story at the Battle of Khyber where he supposedly lifted the door to Khyber fort with a single hand (something 12 men together weren't able to accomplish according to the story). He was Muhammad's primary companion throughout his life and when Muhammad made his last pilgrimage, he gave one of his last sermon's at the pond of Ghadir Khumm where he states "Man kuntum maula, fa-haza Ali'un maula" i.e. "Whoever I am the Maula of, Ali is also their Maula." This single event began the split between Shia and Sunni muslims where Shia argue this was Muhammad's way of passing on the Caliphate and leadership of the Ummah to Ali, while Sunnis argue that it was merely a show of friendship towards him. I am personally a Shia, so my views are biased on this. Regardless, after Muhammad's death, the important members of the Caliphate (Abu Bakr, Umar, Uthman, etc.) deliberately excluded Ali from their conversations and met in secret without him present to appoint Abu Bakr as the political successor, solidifying the split between the party of Ali (Shia'tun Ali) and the rest. Ali eventually became the 4th Caliph after Uthman, and was known for his pure devotion to Allah, hatred of corruption and immoral rule, and extreme acts of charity and welfare for the poor citizens (a collection of his sermons/letters/speeches during this time is titled Nahj-ul-Balagha and English translations exist, definitely worth a read). During his rule, the son of Muhammad's arch enemy Abu Sufyan, named Muawiyah, attempted to usurp the caliphate from Ali and began a civil war from his center in Damascus against Ali's caliphate centered in Kufa. During this conflict, Ali was assassinated while praying in the Mosque of Kufa by a Kharijite who struck him in the head with a poisoned sword while he was bent in prostration. Ali's children Hasan and Husain became his successors (2nd and 3rd Imams respectively), and from Husain continues the lineage of the 12 Shia Imams, all of which (especially Husain) eventually met gruesome deaths at the hands of the Sunni Ummayad and Abbasid Caliphates. While Ali is extremely revered by Shias, he is also highly respected by most Sunnis and especially Sufis, where many of his sayings form the basis of their esoteric and introspectional view of Islam. Qawwali is a form of devotional music originating in Punjab done by Punjabi Sufis, and thus "Ali Maula" is a common motif heard in nearly all Qawwalis, venerating what nearly all muslims around the world consider the best human to ever live after the prophets themselves.
