Valuetainment I don’t understand what Ray was saying that we are capitalists because entrepreneurs start businesses from the bottom up...as far as I know you have to go and get licensing from government (top down) and do business. Bottom up would mean I can start selling now without anyone’s permission doesn’t it?

This is one of the most information-packed interviews I have watched from Valuetainment.
I watched it the first time, 10 months ago. In the mean time, I read the book, I went through a lot of personal investments into education and complimented the learning curve with evaluated experience from the market place and proven mentors.
I scheduled to watch this interview again, today. I picked up things I didn't even hear the first time. Would love to have another interview with Ray, especially after everything that happened in 2020 thus far.
Thank you very much for this interview, Pat & Valuetainment Media.

I like that quote. I don't think KJ is calling anybody a fool.
The interviewer should excercise a bit more patience with his senior. I don't know why is he adopting the MSM style of interviewing of rushing the issues! An interview is not for yes/no answers. I think that everyone were interested in hearing Ray Dalio's explaininations.
This interview should be taken as an excellent opportunity to learn what is so uncommon in today's media of sensationalism instead of allowing any bias to surface.
This quote can be best applied when dealing with people and nations of opposing views distinct from ours!
The skills of 'Listening' are for learners!

PBD is a 100% Capitalist no if or buts about it. Capitalism is what he knows and understand. A individual that works hard and is dedicated can make it to the top.
Ray Dalio operates in both worlds Capitalism & Communism and understand how both worlds work. This is truly an amazing interview but if you don’t understand how Capitalism & Communism work and how China went from farmers to being our Trojan horse in about 40yr you will not understand why Ray choose not to pick which is better Capitalism or Communism and he clearly understand who is winning this war.

None of them are stoops. They are very slick in their promotion of globalism and monopolist capitalism. Obviously Ray is out for the almighty dollar and will do business with ruthless evil men, communists. He doesn't really believe in open competitive capitalism here at home. He is an internationalist just like David Rockefeller(CFR) and has no problem with making big bucks and splitting billions with his oppressive partners.

@Anna Loures Actually, you are not only wrong on your "assessment" of me, my location or my nationality but you are equally wrong about the CFR which you seen totally ignorant about.
Capitalism has nothing to do with governments but is the natural activity of humans, even when zero government exists to "regulate" the activities of free humans. Do you agree with that?
It is NOT the purpose of government to "break up" monopolies. The market of free choices will do that quite well and very quickly without all the headaches of lobbying government to force businesses to "break up".
In reality, except in totalitarian countries, very few monopolies actually exist. Let that sink in a minute. Only totalitarian governments have monopolies.
Free-markets seldom have monopolies, due always to competition, no one can capture all the sales of one particular product or service.
International trade, trade between the citizens and businesses of different countries has no imperative to "merge" as you suggest.
Any American who reads your grammar would be asking you, not me, what country you are in or from!
Every american knows that it is NOT the function of the US government to beak up "monopolies" if one were to actually read our supreme law - the U.S. Constitution - which you either haven't read or don't understand. Which is it?

Freddie Jackson he’s right but a lot of what he’s saying is common sense. Obviously we need better education. With capitalism you will always create more wealth, but when he said Socialism knows how to spread wealth better, he’s wrong. He’s saying money put into education will have a a better impact, he’s right, bc he left college out of the picture. But education should never be declared as a National Emergency, but that’s wrong, bc there are always people in school who don’t wanna learn and/or aren’t interested in what they’re being taught. They should be lead in a direction to create value instead of sitting in a classroom in high school. lol as I’m writing this they keep answering my questions. Ray’s a great leader and boss bc he had a way of making people think hard and want to come up with a solution. For example, Ray pushed Patrick to answer and question his statements, and then Ray would tell him if he’s right or wrong, and as he’s telling Patrick what he thinks, he subtlety changes the direction of the conversation of the same topic.

deponics Just because the amount is less doesn’t mean that’s it more competitive. How many in the world are competing in the market place, how many are trying to make it in said sport? It’s hard being an Olympian, I still am active in sports trying to get there, although I’m still more leaned to business now, becoming something in business is pretty damn hard and it’s not as clear as sports where you have an idea of what you need to do.

deponics At least an Olympian can't cheat or he or she is disqualified for life. Businessmen cheat constantly and the one that claims they're purer than snow is self delusional and fits the narcissistic profile of so many businessmen. In a fair open market where the best and most able achieve success businessmen that write or say this self fulfilling crap wouldn't even get into the game. At least Olympians are the best in their fields. I doubt many businessmen can emulate that because they don't need to be the best they just need to hire them and push the buttons.

    • @brynleytalbot778

Puppet Master It's how you focus education that matters. Creating business ready students and graduates is a fallacy as business shirks its responsibilities to train its own staff. We need a return to basic education and two tier academic degree and vocational degree provision. If business ready is the aim of education then everyone gets dumbed down and thinking gets eliminated because it's not a great management career idea to genuinely think and challenge.
Capitalism is now eroding wealth with the creation of fictitious fortunes based on pie in the sky valuations based on the hope of profits rather than actual profits. With Socialism at least basic needs would be free of the profit motive. Once basic needs are met everyone is free to pursue their potential. If basic needs take greater chunks out of your income you're static and stuck. It's now more important than ever before that at all stages of life you have the ability to change course due to a changing jobs market. That's impossible under capitalism. Only the young benefit free of commitments.

...and more! This is packed full. Thanks PBD.

He didn't really have any clear answers though. He says education is a big issue, though it played no role in his own success. Then he says it won't get solved because the government is too partisan and he hasn't seen a 'synergist' of the two sides in history.

Patrick, thank you so much for this interview. You reach and educate far beyond US. What you're doing empowers many people through better understanding reasons and principles (of trade, marketing, management, human development, trust, war and peace etc.)
I believe your work makes the world a better place.
Many thanks to Ray Dalio for his book, mental health education and a win/win vision of the world.
    Great conversation.

Scenery: The scenery was great; I would enjoy more interviews take place in settings such as these. I understand that sound can be something hard to deal with from time to time but overall, I think the slight interruptions are worth it.
Video editing: Great job on the camera work changing the view just enough times to keep me engaged but not too many as to annoy. Also, adding graphics and images throughout the video was great. This helped following along easier and I’m sure it will help everything else stick better in my mind.
Interview: Although many are not happy that this was not a traditional interview style and it was more of a conversation; I think that Patrick probing and giving his own viewpoint was very useful because it helps you think, gain perspective. In fact, at one point in the interview, the conversation was exactly about that, media that offer different viewpoints in order to reach objectivity. Lastly, it’s clear that Patrick respects genuinely respects Dalio and definitely made it clear to everyone that Dalio is who they should be listening to.
Dalio’s mind: Although it’s obvious from the title of his book, he’s a very well developed “principles thinker” and a dominant lateral thinker as one would find in Elon Musk, Sam Harris, or Jordan Peterson. I believe that for this reason, his answers are “longwinded”. He’s gone through the long and hard work of setting up the foundations for his beliefs, thinking, and life. You can then see this be done again onto every viewpoint he has. To answer a question on society, he does not only look at history, instead, he tries to truly identify each major factor (Economy, Psychology, History, Values, and beliefs), break each down, and then build his conclusion from there (instead of the other way around). It was simply fascinating to watch.
All in all, seeing his mind at work was, in a way, inspiring. This interview entertained me, I will definitely read Dalio’s book because of it, and I will have to revisit each of these topics discussed individually. Thank you for bringing him on and creating such a great experience.

Love Ray Dalio and his passion to give back and help guide others. He is correct about emphasizing education. The problem with throwing more money at public education is that much of it is wasted. He admitted himself that he hated high school and had little interest so in his case for example the money meant nothing. I would much rather see money spent on trade schools and education that was focused on a career that interests the student.

I dont write comments often. I came here to comment this is the best interview ive ever seen because PBD is not your traditional interviewer who nods and agrees to everything the interviewee says. He didnt pretend that he knew and understood everything Ray says. He appeared to interrupt Ray because he genuienly wanted CLARITY instead of agreeing to something he didnt understand 100%. I enjoyed PBD's demeanor, transparency and honesty with Ray in this interview. And my God is Ray Dalio a brilliant, brilliant, brilliant man....

What a well rounded man, common sense on top of intellect and implementation. There are so many factors in making a person so well rounded in order to be so successful in life that it’s very hard to manufacture if not given. He’s touching on social and educational and family factors, economic, environmental and political, no one that I know ever puts these factors together. Thanks Patrick.
