Always my favorite when I was a kid. Enjoyed watching his fights more than any other fighter. So close on your title fights. No accounting to judges decisions dude, I had you ahead geez. Thankyou Herol for fantastic entertainment.
There was probably a brief time when Herol might have made World Champ at Light-Middleweight but perhaps lacked the backing or contacts to move into that position. Had he boxed under a Frank Warren, nowadays, I'm sure the fights would have been made. Once he moved up to Middleweight he was never quite the same and although good results still came the reflexes were beginning to ebb and for a guy with Herols style, that is the end.
I like Herol, but I just think that the very worst thing he could've done against Jackson was to come in on him like that. Julian truly had one of the most dangerous punches the ring has ever seen, and after outmaneuvering him, Graham finally played to JJ's strength (& oh what a strength it was!).
This is my hero also lucky to have him as a member of my family(blood fam).. i remember the days when me and naz used to play computer together. Still my hero today!!
Always Seems like a nice guy does Herol. If Hagler was ducking Graham (which I doubt) it was simply because he was high risk/low reward. Same reason why Roy Jones never fought Collins, Benn or Eubank. Tough fights against boxers who were little known in the US.
He was pretty good and used to stand hands down dodging punches in the gym. His style was awkward, he made top fighters look average and no one fancied fighting him. However, he lacked that special something that make the true champs stand out.
Looking back, I wish I had a quarter of Herol's evasiveness. I might have stayed in boxing instead of moving to kickboxing. Heck, I could have used some of his skill as a kickboxer for that matter. I love watching him dodge, weave and then hit guys as though they had no defense. As an amateur fighter, the only critique I could offer after carefully watching hours of him fighting is that he might have been more effective if he settled into his punches from time to time. Stay evasive and sharpshoot, but every once and awhile, really set down and let some thundering shots go.
Wednesday 21st August 2024. 21.45pm. Dear Sir/Madam. Good-evening. How are you? I trust you are well. I never did like Herol Graham. I just don't understand the Man. He seems very effeminate. I don't know why he got into boxing. When he was boxing, I was down and depressed. I gues this is the work of God, if there is a God. Yours Respectfully. The Bull Of Lewisham. 29th October 1969. (UK).
Where was he during the whole Benn/Watson/Eubank/Collins scene when British boxing was hot? I think he would have beaten all of them and made a lot of money.
Michael Watson was a lovely boxer who deserved to have achieved more and perhaps under modern British Managers/Promoters he might have. However to describe him as the best British boxer never to win a world title is nonsense. Just picking out one or two you have Owen Moran,Dave Charnley, Alan Rudkin to name just a few.
That's a nice philosophical way of viewing it, but the reality is that Nigel Benn will always be connected to Gerald McClellan as the boxer who ended McClellan's career and almost ended his life.
The fact that bums like eubank, collins, benn, haye, McKenzie,an so many Brits during that era an past that era who couldn't lace the bombers gloves won world titles makes me sick..an shows everything that's wrong with British boxing,Vinny Paz is the greatest man Roy Jones ever beat an a 40 odd year old shot to bits herol schooled him, calzaghe, Grahame, hamed, lewis, hide and fury are Britain's best post war
In all three world title fights Herol ahead on the scorecards but still lost! Had Graham not tripped Mccallum he would have won. Graham was outboxing Julian Jackson and was away ahead until getting sparked out. Against Charles Brewer Graham was outboxing until the referee jumped in prematurely.
+aussiemedia1959 Not so sure guys. If even Mugabi could outbox that past prime Hagler then I think Graham could make it a pretty frustrating fight for Hagler. Although it's possible that Marvin would catch him with low hands by one of those sudden changes of stance.
@kjjh12345 Its all subjective mate so im not having a go as we are all entitled to opinions. My argument for that would be that Herol earned the 3 title shots and dominated every fight, but the fact he had perhaps the worst chin in his division kept him back. For pure ability, pure talent he had no equal then or now - alot of guys said it was like shadow boxing because you couldnt get near him
acc, on the point of him and hagler, im sure most ppl will think tht hagler wud knock him out in 1 round, but graham him a very good chin, dnt let the jackson knoc out fool you...jackson was probably the hardest puncher in boing history, but grahams styles wud cause hagler alot of problems on doubt about tht, i see tht fight goin to the wire and hagler gettin a close win on points, wudnt surprise me if graham acc beat him tho
Graham beat Hagler? Come on now. This, "Hagler was dodging him stuff" is blown way out of porportion. It comes down to it simply being Hagler's camp saying thay didn't dodge him. To Graham's camp saying he did. So who's to believe? Excllent fighter but beat Hagler? One of the greatest middlewiegths ever. He couldn't even get by Julian Jackson.
Hagler vacate his title? Hagler lost to Sugar Ray Leonard and never vacated his title. He was a very good fighter, Graham, but he couldn't beat Hagler. Graham would have done well to avoid Tommy Hearns as well.
i was a big fan of nigel ben til i saw this video, how could he be so conceited as to say herols style i think herol would have whipped him back in the day
Herol made our family proud! 👊👊👊
If you're related to him, you should be very proud. What a talented fighter and seems like a really nice, humble guy. Best wishes to you all.

You’re from skegness? So am I lol
@@minds777 Nice one brother 👌🏻
Herol, you truly belong to the fabulous 4 of 80s.
Julian Jackson's KO of Graham is one of the most devastating KO's ever.
A lucky punch too! His corner were gonna pull him out had the round ended.
No he never lad
Herol was my fave fighter when I was a kid. He was and always will be a great person. Cheers for the memories.
Skegness?
agree with most posts, great boxer, one of my favourites too.
Great period for boxing.
Always liked Graham...no nonsense being flash, just a class act.
herol is awesome great likeable character..and yes the jimmy white of boxing
i trained with him on the weekend he's such a funny guy and still in great shape. propa legend
Stop telling lies lad
what a nice bloke he seems!! plus a bloody good hitter!!
Mike Mccallum is an all time great and he said Herol gave him one of his toughest fights.
Graham was pure class.
great fighter herol

Anytime anyone talks about Graham its Almost/ Nearly/ If/Maybe/But/ Could've/Would've
when he was at his peak, top boxers avoided him
Great Profile

the Jimmy white of the boxing world
Good Eubank impersonation too!😀
Best British defensive boxer ever. Probably where Naz got his style from. They had the same trainer
Always Seems like a nice guy does Herol. If Hagler was ducking Graham (which I doubt) it was simply because he was high risk/low reward. Same reason why Roy Jones never fought Collins, Benn or Eubank. Tough fights against boxers who were little known in the US.
My brother wos in the army with is brother nole graham. I’ve just heard nole died. R i p. Nole
A classy boxer who doesn't deserve the millstone moniker of "Almost Champ". Any clips of him doing his 'avoiding being hit' thing???
*no doubt
*knock
He was pretty good and used to stand hands down dodging punches in the gym. His style was awkward, he made top fighters look average and no one fancied fighting him. However, he lacked that special something that make the true champs stand out.
i agree with you.Laing never got a fair shot,i remember seeing him defeat Roberto Duran in America.

Naseem Hamed
Coulda been a world title holder if he didn't get so damn cocky with Jackson near the very end. On the other hand, he had it coming, lol.
;-p

Eubank's style wasn't exciting either, it was his arrogance and showboating that made him famous.
Great point friend, I always thought that Eubank always avoided the top Americans
he was being derogitory towards graham, he just said he prefered come forward fighters which is fair enough
im helping him open a new gym in sheffield it will be open soon maybe november

If you think Vinny Paz is Roy Jones best win then you need to watch A LOT more boxing
And Michael Watson?
Peerless Jim Driscoll is easily the best British fighter to never win a World title. A statue in Cardiff is testimony to his greatness..
shuda woulda cuda its a shame that he was never a champ he was a great fighter
herol used 2 train me but i stoped going
Why?

Graham was a good fighter but there is no way he would beat Hagler, at any weight.
hagler would have beat graham in 10 rounds

I always thought Graham and Eubank were alike ie more interested in getting NOt hit than hitting...which was often the downfall

Herol graham is the best fighter to have never won a world title he was just 1 unlucky fighter
Possibly Sibson also.

very technically gifted boxer - worse fighters than him won world titles
'He would have beat Hagley'......LOL OK pal, one to many punches maybe.
As for Graham, great fighter, wish he won a world title.

Hagler was stripped for for not fighting Graham who was his number 1 contender, when Hagler lost to Leonard it was not for the undisputed title.
Alan Rudkin for me!
Amazing how Nigel Benn ended the career of one of the greatest middleweights ever (Gerald McClellan) and also ended McClellan's life as he knew it.
Herol Graham always found a way to lose. The complete opposite of Joe Calzaghe who always found a way to win.
hagler by sd
lmao
hahaha
Very unlucky
Typical Ingle fighter....
good but not quite good enough....
