@@xGUNISHMENTx on some already made maps there are animals like cows and chickens, how can I delete them? Cuz when I put soldiers on the ground and start the gameplay they'll attack the animals.
Thank you for these dude i've been trying to learn the GEM editor for a month now and coz of you i fully understand how to make so epic battles thank you very much :) let m y imagination run wild now lol
Wrong there, because you can see a prototype in the bovington tank museum, and this gentlemen has been incredibly helpful, because he keeps it simple..simple is good
Mr. Xgun I applied what you taught in this vid. I set up a complex battle with mines traps and such. Thank you for all your effort. I spent all day on a small map. Your storing that castle three parter must have taken weeks. Next I will try building a map from scratch 900x900 I tried a little. The buildings appear to only come in pieces. Well cheers to you.
Ive just found this video now and just found Men of war I wish these kinda games where still being made maybe battle simulators might go big again? Well I hope so!
yes, u hold C or Z, it's a difference, if u got more units, and u hold C while moving ur mouse, all the units u have selected will rotate just like they are standing, if u hold Z and move ur mouse, every unit will rotate at their spot.
At 5.00 he says "press F6" and sound like "press FX" ...before looking on what he is doing I've believed he is reffering to the sub-menu "fx" in the building section...:)
For saving your map, you have to Save As and make a new file either under singleplayer, multiplayer or just off somewhere else (where it won't be playable in-game)
thank you for the informative help the only issue i was having is how to make the AI engage and you know how the squad stuff worked so thanks gunishment for the tutorial
i have 3 questions: Q1: how do you select squads? Q2: how do you delete units that you put or how do you delete other things you put? Q3: how to select a waypoint only for a country/squad (how do you want to call it)?
Just press 1 (or whatever number allows you to take control of that team) and then place a few men on the gun, and then turn it as you would in the actual game. Once they're turned simply start your mission! :)
@RoXeL1Family Yes, you just have to switch to F1 mode, and (on the num. pad press the number of the other team. For example: Team 1 (red): 1. Have fun!
Very helpfull! thx you so much! Now i'm gonna make a epic tank battle and watch for myself xD Btw i still have no idea of how to make the airplane fly around. If you could or already make one please give me the link of ur video. thx!
Hey great video thx it helps a lot as am just starting GEM editing, still was wondering if you could explain how to set up other triggers than waypoint, there seem to be a flag that you set up and teams fight for it but i have no idea how that works, well i know you busy doing great vids ^^ but any help would be great:)
@Almin192 Make sure you select "Start" at the bottom right when in F1 mode in the editor. Also, make sure 1 is their player ID. Watch the tutorial closely and I reckon you'll suss it.
@Th3G4YONE Best tip for defence missions I can offer is to ensure you set the defenders to hold position in unit properties. Very busy atm so won't be putting much out for a month or so.
thebroskie28 Hi there. Okay, how about changing them before you click on START? Things are so easy when you know other options. Let's start with doing it my way and you can be sure there will be no disappointment. If you already have soldiers on the map in the F3 mode you can select 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8 soldiers. You can make up to 8 soldiers respond to your command. In this case, selection is done before you click on START on the lower right of the screen. When each entity in MOW Gem editor is selected, please observe the thin small circles or rings with half horizontal line extending out of the circle. Normally, when you first place a soldier on the map (if you want to, we will discuss about tanks later), your soldier is a little too far away to see these circles. So, to have a close-up view of your soldier, zoom down with the roller of your mouse, aligning the camera as you zoom until the soldier is as closer as half of your screen and observe the circles. What do you see? Yes, circles and lines. Above the soldier's head there is a circle. From this circle there is a thin vertical line going down to his back. This circles and line are the standard red color for all the entities in MOW. A second circle is at arm level. This too has a vertical line from waist to the ground. A third circle comes on upon selecting the entity (in this case, a soldier). The purpose of this circle is beyond the scope of my understanding but I've guessed it's to do with rotation (single-Z, group axis-C), size, large-small (S), height (A), axial sway (X), etc. So, select the soldier and watch what happens. A small white circle with a short horizontal line sticking outward from the center of the circle has now appeared. The line/s always face outwards the front of an entity. For soldiers, the circle is small and white (in MOW) and is shown below a soldier's knees. Next, there is another bigger circle whose centre is somewhere behind the neck of the soldier and his back. This circle also has a vertical line from the center of the circle and extenting up direction of the red circle above the soldier's head. This circle and line is light blue in color and it represents a soldier's weapon, e.g. rifle, msg, etc. To access this circle and therefore selecting the weapon only, you have to accurately pin-point the cursor on the weapon at close-up (zoom). This is necessary only if you want to change the weapon (more into this if you want to know). Every items have circles and lines but many are hidden from view. Now that you have seen what circle appears when you clicked/selected a soldier (a white circle by his knees). Next, you want to know more. With the selected soldier you start to fiddle on its Properties. So, we look on the mission editor on the right of the screen, in the Property for 'human' box. Start with finding the word 'player' and, either you double-click on the word to make the drop-down box appear or you can simply click once on the right field or arrow button for a drop-down box to reveal a list of color options. Now, if you chose a color, watch how the soldier's shoulder circle changes to that color. This is to show you that this soldier is now either a teammate or enemy. If the soldier is a German then you select red (1), unless you want Germany under your command. If you do then select green (2). Now that you know what the circle around the shoulder is for, and that you have given a color to the soldier, we move onto the next stage. Keep this soldier selected and we will make him do or have everything to be able to become a fine soldier worth his salt by changing his properties. Next down in the Properties for 'human', you'll see the word 'brain'. Here you can do limited changes to your soldier. Double-clicking on the word 'control' will highlight the field on its right. At the moment it says 'AI' but you can change it to 'user' by clicking on the arrow in the highlighted field. Remember that this is only a suggestion, not a recommendations. You can only select 'user' if you intend to do a stealth mission such as a night mission operative, where your soldier/sniper is assigned to clear a camp of enemy patrol, etc. This gives you full control, and you will also get thumbnails on the left side of the screen. The next words are as follow: 'fire mode = open, let him shoot. 'move mode = free, the soldier is able to use a percentage of AI to crouch, take cover behind a vehicle, fence and building while deselected (what i mean here is you selected other soldiers to command them to move elsewhere or shoot at the enemies, tanks, etc., therefore the previous selected soldier will deselect itself and that means that the deselected soldier will have to defend itself somehow by crouching or running for cover once it is fired at. but will not stray from his position unless he is to hold his position in a life and death situation. Choose 'hold' to remain on the spot, or 'zone' to remain in a zone and defend it. 'ai_move' = leave it enabled or the soldier will be a sitting duck and won't be able to move around or take cover. Leave the rest of the 'brain' list unless you know what you're doing. So, unless you want to know all the other settings further down the Properties for 'human' list and what they do, we will skip them and scroll further down to 'breed'. Breed is an interesting part to change or arm a soldier, etc. Double clicking on the word 'breed' opens a Breed editor window. Here you can change breeds, their properties and Inventory. Normally I change a few things here but I make sure a soldier is well equipped with the necessary weapons and ammunition. To do that, and you do after me, for a rifleman I leave the rifle, but click on the cartridge in the Inventory box and give a count of 60, as in 60 cartridges. Then I click on Bandages and change the count to 15. Next, for grenades I change that to 6 grenades instead of 1, and for AT (Anti Tank grenades) I change that to 4. You can add further items in a soldier's inventory such as a spade, a radio, etc. Of couse you have to provide space in his inventory by sacrificing some weapons and grenades to accommodate the extra items, or to make a soldier carry an injured or dead comrade or hide the bodies it killed as well before the enemy sees trouble. When done with the arming of a soldier you now can click on the Update units button and then click the OK button to close the Breed editor window. Below the word 'breed' there is another word, 'skin'. To see the list of options on the right fields, you have to firstly point the cursor to the center line until you see the cursor changing to a two arrow symbol. Left-click and drag the cursor slightly to the right until it stops. This is so that you can read the options. Now double-click on the word 'skin' to highlight the right field then click on that field and a drop-down box with a list of skin options appear. Depending on the soldier, whether it is a US or German, English or Russian, each has its skin name. For US, the preset skin name for standard outfit is 'us_ranger_hp. For the African skin, you choose 'us_soldier_afri, which gives the soldier the short sleeved outfit. Here you choose their skin appearance according to the game map you chose or created; European war, Russian war or African war, etc. When done, press the Esc key and click on save. Then select the soldier (note the white circle around his legs), press and hold the Ctrl key and then press the C key once to copy and then the V key to paste an exact copy of the first soldier. Now paste 8 of them. If you want to mix these with smg and machine gunners in the group of 8 you will do the same as you did with the rifleman, adding more weapons and bandage. Then copy these soldiers and paste 2-3 each; 3 riflemen, 3 smg's and 2 machine gunners respectively. I will wait and see how you're going with this one before taking you to another stage, make soldiers walk to roof tops, stand guard by building's windows, sniper climb trees, tanks set ups, etc. Cheers
Would have been sweet to see how to call in reinforcements. I want to make a map where I can call in reinforcements like in the campaign. That I capture a flag, then I get new units to call in. (Making a Iwo Jima battle, where the americans invade with boats at the start and light tanks that can drive in water.
finally someone who really explains it for proper beginners, unlike so many other Gem editor tutorials
This video basicly explains you how to turn the editor into a Men of War Battle Simulator ;)
Great vid. All others rush through and ignore crucial steps, assuming us editor noobs magically know what they are talking about.
did you forget you already left a comment?
Wow, that was a absolutely amazing video, never EVER hear way points explained better!
10 years later still helping people :)
I'm glad :) and glad people still play Men Of War too

Hey man, excellent tutorial. One issue though, when i select the units and assign to a team, they seem to turn invisible on my f2 menu, but f3 works?
You should try deactivating your function keys so you can use that.
How do you change the game speed? Also prevent men from moving all over the place before given a command?
backspace for the speed
Have you found out on how to control the soldiers from disobeying your orders?
Yes but its not the easiest way, I have to select each one then turn it off every time I want to play.
thebroskie28
Hi there.
The next words are as follow:
'fire mode = open, let him shoot.
Cheers
