The Victorian state government recently gave out a hardship payment to the public service!

Who would you listen to a labour minister who has achieved nothing. Or a Billionaire .. who knows about productivity, efficiency.. I know who I would vote for..
Do you realise that 92 per cent of public servants are front line services? So if you cut the public service you will be cutting Centrelink (which did get a large increase to help cover the blowback from robodebt and COVID), Border Patrol, passport officers, federal police, those that monitor our waterways, National intelligence and security staff, people who investigate cyber crimes and scams, the military, and the Australian Electoral commission who make sure our elections are fair. I suppose You can cut policy staff and outsource that work to say PwC although they are expensive and sold state secrets to their clients. You could also cut regulation staff such as those who investigate aged care facilities and early childhood centres to make sure these businesses are complying with standards. Fewer staff means fewer investigations. Less ability to collect the evidence needed to prosecute. You could cut funding to the arts, and give more money to Hollywood, although there’s not much money there to be honest. You can cut and cut and cut to improve efficiency but more often than not that just creates worse service which becomes a self fulfilling prophecy. Not a lot of detail at www.underlabor.com.au/ just a few headlines and a bit of copy to promote outrage.

@@TheKent2288 look at what percentage of his income he pays in tax and what government assistance he gets too. All businesses use good accountants to help avoiding or minimising payment of tax. ATO just announced... "Unpaid tax debts from small businesses have soared to over $35.2 billion, with ATO Commissioner Rob Heferen signalling the agency’s patience has run out. Small business is by far the largest slice of the ATO’s $52.8 billion debt pile, and its collectable debt, contested debt and insolvency debts all rose last financial year. Overall unpaid debts grew by 5.2 per cent in the financial year, prompting new “deliberate action” to chase the unpaid money."
Yes. I have worked in spite of public servants and as we are now at the point where one in five employed Australians is employed by the Govt, a 20 percent cut would be a good starting point. We have reached the stage where the public service is really just seen as a higher paid version of the dole, with a limited mutual obligation. The taxpayer can only carry so many freeloaders at a time.
Don't be a sheep. Australia has a lot of difference with US. I agree gov. Departments never run efficiently, but AU system is closely linked to public services, you can't just get rid of them overnight.
The idea that cutting government waste would, by definition, harm public services is exactly the kind of juvenile, and utterly misleading, statements made to deliberately try marginalise Labor opponents. Frankly the proposal that any government spends every dollar wisely is far more widely held. Certainly, the majority know governments are profligately wasteful of taxpayer dollars. And are far more likely to support cuts to government spending than this Labor MP realises.
There's a parody of how inefficient Australia's government is called Utopia. Great show and pretty accurate. We all pay almost half our wages in taxes and see nothing but degradation.
