Almost Got Ripped Off With Rare Tissot Navigator Watch! Review // World Time Complication

- This was a close call! I've ordered a Tissot Navigator World time watch from a small seller on Ebay. No delivery then for 7 weeks. I thought about being ripped off by a fraud, but then after several "measurements" the watch arrived in perfect condition.
Learn more about the world time complication and the model in particular in this review.

4:40 you hit the nail on the head. :) as they say: "never attribute to malice that which can be attributed to stupidity (or laziness, or craziness)." Not everyone runs their life in what we would consider an efficient or organized, responsible, what have you, sort of way :)
Life have taught me that over and over again. Really mean people are rare, morons come in dozens ...
That Tissot is YOU! Perfect size, style, handsome and functional ! Good things come to those who wait...;-)
I love your videos.
1) you are NOT normal 2) that is a good watch story for everyone but you :-) 3) that is a very interesting watch 4) keep making great videos the community ❤️ you
Tim-you are absolutely right about the 36mm vs the 43mm versions. If you see the two side by side, the larger version loses the vintage charm of the smaller reference. Keep up the great work on your channel. James
I like this watch! Cool complication and good dress watch size. I was lucky to see this video early, and in time to grab the best looking version of this watch available on the net. Limited edition from 1997. A full set in mint condition. Not a scratch. Recently serviced and running within COSG specs. Thanks Tim for finding this and the inspiration! The seller was honest to the bone and no problems at all.
Tim. Now got my own (pre-owned) 160th anniversary version - following your video. The thinness and brushing on the side casing overcomes the larger reissue size. Really is COSC certified, as on the timegrapher the beat rate and beat error is steady in all positions.
The reissue has a snap back case, which means even with a display back showing its etachron system, the watch is very thin at 10mm?
Tim, beautiful watch and great story! I really enjoy your channel and content. Maybe you could add a little more guitar content, please!
At about 7:25 you set Geneva to 2 pm (14:00) with the hands and then 2 AM (02:00) with the inner dial making the time difference between Hawaii and Geneva 2 hours - pretty neat trick!
“Timmy Time Lord” haha
Keep up the wonderful work! Yes this should be a keeper for you, it suits you to a “T”
Cheers
Another beautiful Tissot 👌. You had a lot of patience!
Lesson here is.. Never Ever work outside of the Ebay framework and Never Ever send money by Bank Transfer to a stranger.. Love the watch and a great story but very stressful...
Extremely stressful. But from a point on you have to work outside of Ebay. After some days they just close the case, provide you with the real name of the seller and then you are on your own.
@@CasebackWatches Hi Tim: This is making me nervous about Ebay. Did you seek a refund based upon the "Ebay Guarantee"? I hope you can shed this bad energy and enjoy wearing the watch. C
@@azuresea8086 Ebay guarantee works only with paypal afaik. But some watch seller, mostly honest people, don't accept paypal because it is often used by criminals to pull back money. It's a real dilemma.
@@CasebackWatches I wonder if there's an escrow service that would work better?
@@CasebackWatches how can people pull back money via PayPal if seller has paperwork on item sold as well as video of the packaging and delivery to shipping carrier? I have had people lie about a phone but they lost because I had paperwork and video records.
It's a very attractive watch.. I'm glad you got it. I think he just regretted selling and hoped you would give up.
Tissot is a weird brand. So much of what they make these days is boring at best and shovelware junk at worst, but every now and again something like this pops up and reminds me that the brand actually has a really cool heritage.
Strange, isn't it? Diamonds in a pile of entry level crap. Bad management I guess.
@@CasebackWatchesI suspect that pumping out the entry level crap is what keeps them in business. That said, I will admit that I own a Visodate that I'm very happy with, certainly wouldn't mind one of those Navigators either. A damn shame the reissue is such a porker at 43mm.
The average Tissot is mundane at best! As you said now and then they produce something right out of left field!
7 weeks wow I would have been very worried nice to see it arrived beautiful watch
Great video Tim, still my favourite English-language German watch channel :-)
Nice Tissot. Would love to see you review the Tissot Ballade COSC which was my first significant watch purchase.
That Tissot is gorgeous! Great job turnin' up the heat on that guy.
thanks for this, had no idea it even existed. I'll be looking out for one, especially compared to the cost of a pp world timer or similar. keep up the good work.
Hi Tim, I was sure that this will be a keeper. The Tissot Navytimer was a gem between a lot of mediocre Tissot stuff, and after all this mess that you described so entertainingly - you gotta keep the ticker ! Enjoy it !
Wearing it right now 😉
That's a really good looking watch, too bad you had to go through the wringer to get it...all's well that ends well.
What a Vintagestic watch, is a busy dial but in a very beautiful and vintage way, looks like an old aeronautical instrument of the comercial aviation's glamorous days...
Truly a gorgeous watch! Thanks for sharing it with us!😊
Brilliant video, so, so true as to how these things can pan out and debilitate us as watch collectors. The problematic seller almost creates in us a new pathology haha.
Incredible sulk lol :)
I have just gone through this exact situation with Chrono24. I stupidly bought from a private seller as opposed to a verified dealer with a reviewable record and I did so because I so wanted the watch that much. It was not a rare watch, but a watch that tends to be loved, bought and kept, so not turn up so often on the used market.
I brought a Stowa Baumuster B 40mm no date for 590 GBP as advertised in very good condition. My difference from your gentler situation was: the watch turned up with a destroyed, or on the way out, grinding movement of an automatic when hand wound.
The seller retorted saying via the rotor: it kept perfect time. I thought an Aliexpress watch for 8 dollars keeps good time! hahaha.
I have learnt my lesson. IF I ever buy used again, it is ONLY from large, verified dealers... typically watch shops.
The guy who sent me the watch...I honestly think was genuine, just quite mad, or rather delusional as to description and the passage of time.
I await the return of my money that sits in escrow as the returned watch wends its way towards him. In the meantime I bit the bullet and simply paid the full up front price to Stowa as I have prior. They are schon. gut. wahr. I live and learn like most idiots lol.
Wonderful content Tim. You are no Timmy hahahaha 😂
Tim. Bit the bullet, but you inspired me, I always wanted a world timer, maybe a Montblanc Geosphere, instead I got the reissue version on order, but with the darker dial found a v. v. good price for a new one.
A stunning watch (and history!)
It's real nice, sehr gut! I was imagining that it all looked like an episode of Babylon Berlin dealing with that fool.
I’m not one for busy dials, but in this case I’ll make an exception.
I first thought he didn’t have the watch at all and then tried to obtain it once he had your money.
Nice watch, Tim. Hope you enjoy it!
I love the watch!! What are your thoughts on the latest editions of the Tissot Navigator? I'm always fascinated when I see them and feel like I want one to go on my 17.3cm wrist and my family and I enjoy travelling internationally so I feel like the case makes itself, no? ha ha!
Thank you for walking through the function of the watch. It was very helpful.
Beware bad seller, if you don't honored your transaction. Because Wristwatch Detective Timy Timepiece is gonna get you 😎⌚🤜
New sub here. Been bingeing on your content this evening. Very good.
There's something happening; especially from Japan and Europe (France and UK notably ) some sellers have perfectly good reviews, often 100%, but if you win an auction or make an offer they take your money then take days to ship, when they ship they send an empty envelope via slow mail, with a tracking number, but the envelope is empty... I know in advance now because I don't get any bill for custom fees from Canada border agency. Pretty weird thing I don't get how they profit from it?
Credit card or eBay always reimburse but why, why those sellers have good reviews also is a mystery to me.
Beautiful reference, congrats!
i had a similar problem with a seller on ebay , she kept giving me similar excuses to yours , & kept trying to get me to give her my paypal details , which i would'nt do , & after a week i phoned ebay up , & she said she'd seen my comments & would get my money back , which they did that afternoon .now it's made me wary about going on ebay , i mostly use amazon , & always use paypal , i feel it's safer , lovely watch by the way , very unusual .
I am most envious Sir (of the watch, not the sales experience!)
can i ask a totally unrelated question about a watch. I'm considering buying a Nomos Ahoi watch.. from Jomashop..not at all cheap .. but i love the faces of these. can you pls tell me whether you think they are good watches, and any comments you may have
..thanks. I Also have a Fortis auto watch.. wonderful watch though the gold numerals aren't great to see, but couldn't part with it...Fortis... wow.. sometimes very shaky (financially) history of this extraordinary company.. I'm thinking of getting another, a pilot watch. What do you think of Fortis?
Hi Tim, maybe you can provid some information about small swiss manufactures like Zeno basel, Rodania, etc.
That story sounded more like Timmy Timebomb the man with the guitar case...
😇😂😉
Great find!
What a great rant! Love it. Cool watch.
Guten Tag Tim, I love you, I couldn't stop laughing as you explained the incident. OMG, nowdays you can expect just anything. I like your style, I like your temper, I like how your face changed when telling us the story.
So, back to the review. I am actually buying this watch, but will probably go for a gold one, I have many steel cases so far. FYI, never ever pay by bank transfer, but being inside Germany it is ok, you can trace and sue the seller, but I wouldn't do it if it was in another country or even in the USA or Asia. I know many charge extra for credit card, on-line payment...but the good option is Paypal as you are somewhat protected. I only paid by bank once, to a German dealer H*****O, it took him more than a month to send the watch, but when I cancelled he was making excuses to reimburse the money for 2 more months. Real pain in the ass. If I had paid with credit card, I would have been able to cancel directly with my cc company.
Ok, about the watch, it looks much smaller than 43mm, and 18mm lugs are small too, but the watch looks good for the price you paid. Also I think this model has a deployment now, yours have a pin buckle, probably it is an old model. The negative thing is the two Indian cities jointed in one zone and the colours (steel, white, red, blue, brown...) and of course I would prefer the see through case back. Stay safe and please, give us some more of your good and funny reviews, I can't wait. Tschuß
Thanks for the kind comment.
This model‘s diameter is 36. It is relatively small but I like that.
Stay healthy.
Interesting watch. All of my favorites of the brand have "Tissot" on the dial ... never "TISSOT 1853, DID WE MENTION 1853? BECAUSE, 1853."
With all the trouble that it went to to get it I think it be a keeper too beautiful watch love to have it in my collection
"Couldn't find the time"
Maybe he misplaced the watch. Lol!
I'll see myself out.
Sh*t happens! I had some weird experience on eBay, with some sort of "bipolar" dude or i don't know what you call that illness , one day he was ok, sending rational messages, talking sence on the phone, and another day he was completely loonatic talking about himself in third person and etc. It was so strange😮,i decided to cancel the deal, poor dude..
speaking of dodgy deals, I can't wait for your take on the ongoing Horology House dumpster fire
What a story. I'm glad in the end you got the watch . I like it. I had a wall clock like this. Ps . I think you are a normal person . Lol
Sehr interessante Geschichte und eine echt schöne Uhr! Viel Spaß damit!
Classy watch with a timeless design. Shouldn't you have set the Geneva timezone to the 14hr position for 2pm?
Congratulations on your prizewinning journey 👍
Nice watch, it really is, but it's just under £1000 in the UK. I'd rather have something vintage for that money
Timmy Timepiece 😂👍
Basically, deal only with a known shop, not a private citizen. I’ve bought from Zeitauktion and Marksuhren - they were absolutely great.
Hi Tim. Nice video. May I ask what is the Tissot Reference no. for this watch? Thanks!
That's Z197
There is another longer reference which I don't remember, but with the Z197 you should find the watch.
Extreme measures taken.
Tim, you mentioned a preferred watch strap in this video. I couldn't quite get it. Could you please tell which one? Thanks in advance! I am really pleased you were able to resolve the issue with the Tissot. It is beautiful!
Herzog
@@stass5363 , many thanks!
i've sold a handful on forums and privately its tough
I don't know why people put items up foe sale if they don't want to complete the transaction. I tried buying a Jaxa wrench over Christmas. The seller could never find the time to meet me. I tried for 2 weeks and gave up. The seller still has it listed on the platform 2 months later.
Beautiful watch!
Many older Tissots are remarkable. Modern ones seem to be either gaudy or boring.
I'm not a gold watch guy, but I think this one might look quite nice in gold.
First :) Thanks for sharing your story on getting this watch. Sorry you had to go through such a hassle to get it.
Pleasure!
Hi Tim, I believe Geneva should have been at 14 and not at 2 unless you have shot your video at 2am :D
Yes, thank you, I think I was distracted there and did it wrong.
Im waiting for an expensive Breitling from Joma to turn up and I'm a train wreck! I never use eBay for expensive buys as you know its a shit fight!!
Fingers crossed!
@@CasebackWatches I've bought from them a few times and it's always been a good experience!
Would you consider getting a sinn watch? Or would you consider getting something else under 2.5k usd. More power to you and your channel.
Hahaha I am glad to hear the story though disappointed you can't tell us what Timmy Timepiece said for legal reasons. I wonder if there was a "myah see myah" involved. I wish you were a client since you seem to bring your lawyer business. Also though Iike the aviation aesthetic of the Tissot I am not happy that Karachi is omitted considering that Karachi is featured in most world time watches and was a major refueling destination and hub since the early days of aviation. It would make sense then for it to be on a watch like this.
The selection of cities is quiet erratic. Ie Ive never heard of Juneau.
@I.D. Kline lets not get into the whole India/Pakistan thing hahaha....@Caseback Watches isn't Juneau the state capital of Alaska?
Oh look the seller disliked the video
I think he is a scammer. He lists watches he doesn't own. He saw this Tissot for sale somewhere and he listed it himself for a premium. Once you bought the watch from him you had to wait until he buys the watch, receives it and sends it to you. That's why it takes longer and you pay a premium to the scammer.
QuartzCrisis That is EXACTLY what I was thinking. Tim was sold a watch that seller didn’t have, yet.
QuartzCrisis in Germany 🇩🇪 perhaps you can tell the seller to set the watch to a certain time and have him text a picture to you. He probably has the watch then- unless he’s excellent in photoshop.
I'm not sure. I didn't pay a premium. Actually it was a very good price.
honestly if that happened to me it would ruin the watch and i would want to look for another..
The light on this video is awful, but nice watch.
i am glad you have the watch, happy end :)
There’s one on eBay at the moment in Germany. So it’s not hard to get.
36 mm? Do you have a link?

@@CasebackWatches tissot navigator...... on eBay kind regards Vic
Found it! Insane price. Ive paid half. But we can assume that‘s a way better dealer.
Having looked at the seller’s feedback history it seems that he has mostly very positive feedback. He definitely treated you quite badly but it interests me why his selling service suddenly became so poor.
Sometimes the reviews are fake, sometimes the sellers forthrightness decreases over time, sometimes life happens
Lester, I've asked him this on the phone but he didn't tell me anything. Just this "tomorrow".
Sounds like you worked with HorologyHouse... lol
Hi can you recommend buying from watchbox.ae from Antwerp
I wonder if the seller was hit with coronavirus? Seems like this happened right around the initial breakout
To me he was just dodgy overall. Or let's say completely distracted, even with his tiny business. Something between lazy and dodgy.
Yeah maybe a bit too early for that too, thinking back on it.
I'm any case, I'm glad you were finally able to share this beauty with us. I'm in love with world time complications, and this one is unique
He was hoping that enough time passed so he could get your money and nor worried about refund?
Interesting thought. But doesn't any form of warranty start with the moment you receive the watch?
@@CasebackWatches I would think so. I just don't understand why it's so difficult to send a product that you already purchased. All the excuses they made, it doesn't justify they 7 week delay barring there was issues during the shipment. It just makes me pause really hard and ask for my money back asap if I could.
@@daniellee8162 Exactly, makes no sense. That's why I've said I think the guy is just nuts or distracted.
Almost as good as Archies World Time.
Phuk Me Dead!
Are you sure you’re not a bit clinically unwell as well? It takes someone with some sort of illness/compulsion to spend so much money on something useless in today’s world, especially someone who went to such lengths to intimidate the person you admit was mental ill via the use of the law/your power through words even you don’t want to repeat instead of accepting a refund and buying from someone who is just as “well” as you claim to be
I'll admit the watch looks great. But the way the city names are arranged is also the stupidest way to do this, because half the names are always unreadable. Plus one always has to look where the city is before being able to read the time, because the cities rotate. The best way, in my opinion, is to have the cities fixed, so all names are always at the same position, and readable, and have a 24-hour disc rotate.
Name and shame!
luckily you didnt buy from horology house
What is the story about them?
That was a youtube channel and now it turned out that the host is some sort of criminal. At least there are many rumors on forums and here on yt.
@@IDKline He has way bigger problems than his logo now
Wow this is nuts. How would a scammer think they can operate in the daylight like this, I will never understand. Greed and shortsightedness seem like they only way to understand the mentality of these people. Only now, it's so public that it has become a spectacle. I assume the buyers will largely not get any money back out of this.
That all said, this is a reason not to buy secondhand Rolex if you don't know the provenance.
They’re all cities except for Mexico. The hell.
There is Mexico on it.
Mexico City
Talking bout buying from mental disordered persons - Imagine buying from AC3....
I've heard that he is actually a good seller. Despite his reputation or because of it.
