- Charles Hanson, auctioneer, weaving his magic with a rare Waterloo medal.
It is impressed SIMON STANISBY 2ND BAT. GRENADIER GUARDS awarded to private Simon Stanisby, First Foot Guards (Grenadier Guards) note name of medal incorrectly impressed. No. 199 Simon Stanisby enlisted in the Grenadier Guard 7 December 1813 aged 18 at Dover from the Derby Militia. He remained a Private throughout his service being discharged 12 November 1835, suffering from chronic catarrh and palpitations and rheumatism on a pension of one Shilling one Pence per day. Shown on the roll of Waterloo men First Foot SIR.U.BURGH'S COMPANY' research documents included. The whole proceeds from the sale of this medal are to be given to military charities to benefit regiments connected to Derby, the home town of Simon Stainsby, these include the Grenadier Guards and the Mercian Regiment which incorporated the Notts and Derby Sherwood Foresters
