This is an old reaction we are just releasing now. We were only allowed to use the audio not the video. Hope you enjoy the reactions. Dont forget to check out the midnight oil playlist at the end of the video!
It’s a shame that rest of the world never got to hear the Aussie music scene from 70’s/80’s as the talent was unbelievable. At least now through the internet and reaction channels like this people are discovering the history of our great country.❤
i would agree. reactions videos and the internet has helped musicians all over the world get the attention they deserve. In some cases still deserve more.
Australian military has served with us/US Forces in many wars since WW1, especially in Vietnam, when 60K Aussie vet's were with American vet's '65-'73, & all should be known & respected by all!
The singer Peter Garrett was founder of the NDP or Nuclear disarmament party, a very left wing organisation and that mindset was evident in a lot of their music. Their music was great and the lyrics always very intelligent and thought provoking, but yeah you are right about us fighting in wars together. Militarily we are joined at the hip but that doesn't mean that people in either country aren't going to protest all the wars, war is a business these days. Those in control aren't likely to stop while they are making money. Its a shame that any country needs troops to protect their borders but thats the world we live in. Back in the 80's I was a bit of a greeny/socialist, as I got older I grew out of that. Things aren't that so simple that by protesting the TPTB will listen to you and make changes. Never worked yet, better to just live the best life you can with the cards dealt to you.
@iankearns774 I hear you, & we definitely have anti-war protestors, but it's nationally hypocritical for him to protest against only Americans, when Aussies have been right there with us/US, while our's don't protest against y'all's: hypocrites paid to sing lie$!
Peter Garratt what a wonder, lead singer of one of Australia's most popular bands, environmentalist, activist and former federal politician and someone with a great set of lungs for an asthmatic. Just a cool bloke from Sydney's northern leafy suburbs. Onya Pete!
One song that really hooked me that I heard before the Red Sails in the Sunset album was "Hercules". If I ever hear the Oils and I'm not playing them, it's all about Beds are Burning, which is just about the only song of theirs I really don't like.
Unquestionably, this is one of the Oils best ever songs & comes from their 1981 album, "10 to 1". I bought the album at the time it was released. It's an excellent album that also produced "Short Memories" & "the Power & the Passion", although the rest of the songs on the album, don't have much to offer. While the Oils were in their day, an excellent live band, with a loyal fanbase for their "niche protest" style of hard rock, they were one dimensional, like virtually every Aussie pub rock band of that era, by which I mean, they stuck rigidly to one or very occasionally two, music genre/s throughout their careers. That being either hard rock or R&B & virtually nothing else. The only exception to this, was/is Cold Chisel! Don't get me wrong, I'm not putting down Midnight Oil, but like the other big name bands of the era, they were patently inferior to Cold Chisel, who's absolutely huge catalogue of brilliant multi-genre songs & incredible live stage performances, were a whole other level above all their contemporaries, not just the Oils. Cheers
You legends do it all the time! It’s pronounced oz-e Love everything you do guys! Would love to see you all in Australia! Working holiday and total tax write off!
lol this is a pretty old video we recorded a while back that we just uploaded now. since we have learned oz-e we have also been given the example its like Ozzy like Ozzy osbourne. if there was a way to work that out would be amazing. Im not sure how it would be a buisness trip unless a band had us as a host. or backstage footage or something. im open to ideas.
@ there are some amazing bands who tour here regularly who would love to have you as a support group! My suggestion would be to reach out to a kiwi band called Devilskin. You can tour as women of metal! They are amazing dudes who I met when they toured with Halestorm as their support group. They are so big in New Zealand that Halestorm was their support act!
Hiya. Still waiting to hear what songs you’d love to do covers of with the band? You must of thought We could do that! About one or two at last. Cheers.
we actually recorded a couple covers. we have been sitting on them for a while. just waiting for suzi to film something simple so there is at least a visual.
You need to listen to the original clip of most things to get the best first impression. Then go on to live versions etc..... I see you watch Aussie songs and think, if you had of watched the original version, you would be more blown away.
i did not speed up the video. The original video is right off of the midnight oil youtube page but it is a live performance of the song so maybe they chose to perform it faster than usual.
I am forever grateful that Midnight Oil did not alter their music to suit a US audience as was requested by their US record company. One of the few Australian artists that could make a living on just an Australian audience alone.
Just like Cinderella in Australia . Cinder who?? 😂 along with so many I could mention. Papa Roach?? Never heard of them until Falling in Reverse did a cover of theirs. But apparently iconic in the US.

@TheWolfHunterZ I thought I heard you were on the Trump pardon list for this visuals on this one... Maybe I was wrong.
😜
Green Day crédits this tune as being the inspiration for American Idiot.
“Oils on the Water” is one of the best live concert videos you’ll ever watch.

This is off the Ten to 1 album. Hard to go past this album but i'm a Place without a Postcard fan. Try Basement Flat.
