i think he's afraid just because he has so much more attention and therefore expectations of him now because of glee. there are people who expect him to be just as perfect live as he is on glee so he fears that they won't understand if he makes a mistake (however minor) live.
i think that, like me, he's just embarrassed or afraid he's gonna embarrass himself by doing an impromptu performance. he's that delusional, yes. come on, chris, you've gotta be aware of how flawless you are. seriously.
