My earliest childhood memory of Christmas was a tree loaded with those magical bubble lights and loads of presents around the bottom. I was given stern warnings not to touch either by Grandma, which meant no touching, but I was mesmerized by their wonder and just sat and stared for hours.

They were on my grandparent's tree and I was also warned to to touch them.

How hasn't this gone viral by now? This is such an amazing collection. I like all the standard base Matchless stars.

The bubble lights are so much a part of my growing up; Christmas wasn`t official until they were on the tree. The beautiful glass flowers were on my grandmother`s tree. They have long disappeared through family misfortune, but this was the first time I`d seen them displayed in 50 years. Fabulous - all of it.

I *love* this, beautiful! I have one set from The Vermont Country Store and the liquid is clear. Even though they are not as nice as yours I love watching them. It's 2/23/23 and they are still up and running, I can't bring myself to put them away.

I’d seen this before and enjoyed it. I just viewed it again and to my delight, I saw something I had not seen last time. I discovered a young child amongst the guests. How magical for a child to be in a guest’s in the glowing, house of bubble lights bubbling, matchless stars, ( forested and crystal) , nippon rosettes and neon bulbs electrified, working and filing every nook and cranny , shelf, window ledge and yes, even the belly of the vintage heater. WOW what a memory for the child. Granted, grown ups who see it would be amazed...but that child will be explaining and sharing the wonderful world experienced in person from now On for every future Christmas . There will never be a more beautiful display ....oh, wait...unless he is fortunate enough to be invited back for next years dazzling show. ( maybe even luckier if one strand of lights or a full candolier is left as an inheritance to the lucky child. ) Oh yes, that would be incredible.

This looks so much like my home when I was a kid in the 1950's We always had 3 dozen or more bubble lights. I think first C 6 and then C 7 based lamps/sockets. But we didn't have any dreamy music like you have in our house it was Xmas rock and roll especially "Santa and Satellite"....we used to go out to the Brooklyn, NY terminal produce market and get our 14 plus foot Balsam tree and then buy decorations by the TON. Every year.... Hey, it was the real America back then. Melt. Down the extetion cords! Thank you for posting this, great memories.

Remember bubble lights as a child, resurrected an old series set as an older teen, when friends and relatives saw my lights and my interest, they started giving me any they had. Now I have a ton of them but none of them are anywhere near as fascinating as these slow moving oil filled bubble lights.
Now I want to try and make my own, I want to see if I can make tubes like these as well as the magical shooting stars.

I wanted to say that I just ran across your wonderful video of all the incredible bubble lights. The video actually made my eyes tear up and I have no clue as to why. It had to have been all the wonderful bubble lights and how you have them displayed. I have a few old bubble lights and even one set that works perfectly. I mostly had been collecting for a long time the old fashioned outdoor C9 Swirl lights. The glass had the swirl and the paint was on the inside of the glass. Color never fades or chips or peels. I usually do up my mantle piece with a very nice thick garland with those lights on it. They do get very hot so I use a dimmer switch on them. To me, dimming the lights down a bit makes the colors "glow" a deeper color and makes the mantle look Wonderful. Please, keep up the great vids of your bubble lights and hopefully look forward to seeing more of your wonderful bubble lights. (I know it's a few months early but) MERRY CHRISTMAS to you and yours. :-)

My God... Mr. Bubble Light is the right name for you! I wish you were a neighbor of mine so that I could get to see this display in person... OIL, SHOOTING STARS, LIQUID!!! You have them all my friend... I'm from Long Island, to bad you're that far away... And lastly, I'm going to assume that you and I were probably bidding on some of the same eBAY items that past few years!... The last set of Bubble Lights that I bought cost me 500 dollars... (Paramount Kristal Snow) Just a beautiful display of Bubble Lights... The best I've seen to date... God bless you & Merry Christmas....

I made a great discovery over the weekend. Frequently bubble lights will
have trouble starting to bubble. So, how to get them to bubble? It is
    quite easy:
Let the bulb warm up for 4 or 5 minutes until some of the other bulbs have started to bubble. Unscrew the one that isn't bubbling and hold it with the glass tip pointing down for about 15 seconds. Once you turn it back up, it will bubble like crazy. Then just screw it back in to the socket!
I suspect it is because they don't get quite hot enough and the fluid just swirls. When you turn it upside down, the hot bulb heats up just the glass bottom of the tube making it very hot compared to when the liquid was in contact!

They are called "Matchless" lights. If you do a search for "Matchless Christmas Lights" on google or even eBay you will find that people still sell them. I ran into someone a few years back that was selling them NOS (new old stock). That meant that he was able to get them brand new but they looked like the real old fashioned lights. I even have bought a few from him. I don't believe that he is still around unless he changed his handle on eBay. I couldn't find him to get any more. :(
