- This is the [S] JOHN. RISE UP. Flash from Homestuck. Saw that it hadn't been uploaded yet, so I figured I would. Enjoy! The song is Savior of The Waking World. All credit goes to Andrew Hussie and the rest of his Homestuck team.

I just realized something, the title of this page isn't "John: Rise Up" the way most pages are titled, but "JOHN. RISE UP" the way WV typed when he was commanding John. That's because the title isn't about John rising to God Tier, but WV yelling at John to get up, because as far as he knows, John just died and WV desperately wants him to come back.

When i realized it was "JOHN. RISE UP", instead of "John: Rise Up", I actually started crying. Poor WV... D'X
This scene is very special to me. It is... the very first time anyone in homestuck really and truley DIED. Sure, many other deaths would follow, and yet... this is the start of it all, this is the very first character to go. And, in a way... he is gone forever. The real him, although still living up 'in the clouds', real him is forever dead on that rock, and its sad to think about. But, that and other moments like this are what make homestuck worth reading, in the end
I never saw it like that. Whenever godtier occurred, it always seemed like the character's dual consciousness (Waking and Dreaming) would collapse into something akin to a "true" self, awakened to powers they were predestined to have and indeed always had to begin with.
i mean theres also that one john that terezi killed by creating a doomed timeline
Darugo Sueño Yeah i find it like that you have to be killed on your quest bed and once you do your God Tier transformation will begin, and you will be born a new or resurrected, so all Bec Noir, did by stabbing John was lead him to gaining his permanent God Tier form so jokes on him.
What about Dream Jade ?
OronkonPhoenix of course her, but the first time any character in the main world had died, one of the main 4 kids but in the flesh, died, you know what I mean?
I love how cool the paradoxes in this book, web comic, novel whatever you want to call it. I just find it so cool that the WV that was talking to John before he died had already lived the events that John was about to go through its really thought out imo.

Yes, Heir of grief may be very beautiful. But this song will forever be my favorite Homestuck song. Actually, no, it's in a tie with heir of grief. Both are so beautiful.

It's been a while since ACT 7 went out, and Homestuck 'ended', and now I see this again.
Years in the past, (but not many,) I read Homestuck on a whim; on a recommendation of a friend. This was the flash that sold the webcomic for me.
When I got here, I knew that it was worth it, and that it would be good.. That was a long, long, time ago.
Cheers to Homestuck, the adventure and the experience, and all the years and the friends we've made along the while! And now you say that it's ending, that it's dead?

this was a DEATH. The John we saw and loved in the first page of this comic is dead. he is of no more. this flash invoked years from me seeing our main character die. thank you for good times hussie.

Red Lemonade first john died to typheus, and then alpha john took over. second john died to bec noir. there is another john who died to typheus trying to do the choice

The first time Bec Noir ever made you like him ever was when he saved Jade's life then went straight back to making you hate him, by killing all the exiles except WV and PM.
Denizen of Hell WV did get killed. I think they brought him back though.

THEN he got an asshole by killing the black Queen and wearing her ring.
I meant, in normal cases the "Ascension Command" looks like this:
"John: Ascend." Indicating that it is the player/AH telling the characters what to do.
In this case the command text is " JOHN. RISE UP",similar to when WV was giving John orders. WV tells John to get up because he thinks/is afraid John is dead. And that made me sad. :(
Maybe I should have made that more clear... :P

I swear, my reaction was pretty interesting when I found out that quest beds weren’t beds that you sleep in that give you powers, but just stone slabs that you die on.
Also can I get an F for john’s old outfit
also, that outfit is alchemized from his old shit and vriska's outfit. Considering she technically let him to die here, it was probably a weird wish of hers for him to ascend in her fit

Honestly it haunts me how John's real body stays on Quest bed. Like fuck, it rots and such when your dreamself gets tacky pajamas and some cool bull shit powers. All kids that started the session died. Their god tier dreamselves continue to live. IT HAUNTS ME WITH EVERY SECOND HSHSJDJSJSHAJJSKAJSKSMSJKA*SOBS VERY LOUDLY*
Also not to mention that last seconds of the Savior of the Waking world feel as if:" the whole story ended, there's no more thing.It's just the endless story that doesn't move. Newly god tiered John.Time to let go."

I can't believe homestuck has finally ended after all these years. it seems like only yesterday that this scene came to be

Poor WV... I mean, a person who he's only known through a screen and only been able to communicate with through commands on a keyboard is killed...
"Rise up." is such a poignant phrase. WV means so much more to me now than when I had to watch him make can town.
the one thing that would have made Homestuck's first few acts better would have been to have every god tier be as cool and heroic as this one. I mean, don't get me wrong, the rest are pretty cool, like Rose and Dave through the Green Sun, but this just... plain epic. John ascending both on LOWAS and on Skaia, everyone looking up at Skaia as it shines brighter than ever in the color of Breath, it's just... something else, man. Something that barely gets topped by any other flash in Homestuck.
I love how John's is the only one where we see that the kids, on their own planets, can see the effects of John's rise up. Maybe it has to do with him having the Breath aspect and that it can occupy space wherever it's at if that's what the aspect "wants" I guess.

I get goosebumps every time i see this, i cant help but to just get really proud of John as a character, and how far he's come.
this was the first time i ever cried tears of joy while reading homestuck, i think.
oh, man. those memories.
I've experienced realizations like this a few times while reading the comic. It is an interesting feeling.
This is THE most epic moment in all of Homestuck for me. MY MIND WAS CONSTANTLY BEING BLOWN BY THE EPICNESS OF IT ALL

I love the music for these scenes. This tune in particular, both here and in Cascade. It just fits so well.
Savior of The Waking World
It all made sense just then.
About a year ago I had seen a video of a strange boy in blue clothing crying over who I only could assume was the boy's father, I noted the strangely long hood.
Now, all this time later, I sat in my room.
It was nighttime, and everyone was asleep.
I was in shock, Our favorite protagonist John Egbert was dead.
Shakily, I pressed the button that read [S] JOHN: RISE UP
It all made sense.
The boy in the hood was John.
I just realized that this is could be the first time the other kids ever see John in person.
Its called Savior of the Waking World, which like shazbot said, is an alternate version of Doctor. And its one of my favorite songs in all of Homestuck
John rises but... at what cost? John! We need you! *i've been rereading lol*
Why do nearly all of these get me teary eyed, is it the music or something, specially Jades Enter, that one gets me so sad eyed face.
Who said wind control can't be badass obviously didn't read Homestuck. Also, who wants to see a real animated fight with God tier John? (The one in EO5 doesn't count, he was just destroying weaklings)
The music always gives me chills.

actually. she was being helpful. she knew that john was going to have to die to ascend. and she gave him the option of her putting him to sleep. thus he wouldnt feel the pain of death. and that way. he would god-tier and wouldnt jump out of the way. or die somewhere else besides the quest bed

he doesn't say it as much as you would think. for whatever reason, it just stuck to people as being almost a catchphrase for karkat even though it isn't
there are two ways to god tier: the quest bed on your planet or the sacrifical slab in the center of either derse or prospit, whichever planet you dream on, which is what the alphas did. if you go god tier on your planet your dream self takes over, you dont need a dream self to go god tier inside of your moon, though. john and jade both died on their planets, and though jades dream self had died, it was prototyped and so she took over the sprite, and she also inherited the prototyped bec powers.
They thought he had gone.
The fireflies floated down, blinking their lights in foreign Morse Code. They fluttered about, pale beams flickering as they settled on his lifeless body.
His scarlet ichor pooled around him as four dazzling flashes of light took to the bedposts. A strange icon, as if to capture the wind in one image, descended, and in a burst of brilliant light, set itself into his corpse.
Three friends watched on, speechless.
And John was gone; and in his place...

I hear you there was just something surreal about this; being the first (on screen) main character death in the comic. but at the same time it was kinda magical in its own way.

I believe Breath may also represent the concepts of direction or communication (though the second is harder to prove).
Tavros was never able to speak very well, but that was because he was a Page. His powers (and rhetoric) were very weak, as a Page is weak at first. He was also mostly aimless.
John, however, grew into the role of a leader, deciding the path to take. He was also mostly aimless at first and had trouble keeping his attention on one thing at a time, but got better.
This is my faaaavorite animation in homestuck. Evar. :3

Actually, she knew that he would be godtiered. She just wanted to be responsible for it.
Much in the same way that she wanted to be responsible for Jack Noir's empowerment into Bec Noir.
She didn't do it to help anyone. She wanted credit.
I'd suggest googling this animation and going directly where it is on the site, then just backing up from there as much as you need to.

[S]: HOMESTUCKS. RISE UP
Communication is only a personal guess based on Tavros and somewhat John (also Rufioh, sort of). Direction is more obvious, I believe, simply based on John's actions and Tavros' inaction.
An Heir needs to grow up. That is their role. By growing up to be less aimless, John was capable of doing great things. A Page, on the other hand, gets gradually stronger. Tavros, though, was always too weak to do anything of importance by himself.
It's possible that flight and motion are part of it as well.
