Just imagine if JWP was 10 years younger. This would have been an all-time classic. The guy still looked pretty damn good for 45 lol. Still a really enjoyable contest.
Few years ago in Sydney, a 40 yr old man died after a Muay Thai bout. Usually, a martial artist has proved and earned all he can by his 30s and has changed jobs or become a trainer. My grandmother was 39 when I was born! I don't like watching slow, stiff older fighters keep showing up for a paycheck, eventually one will die in the ring and we might start to think a little. Parr looked wobbly and old here.
Parr might be the most underrated Australian athlete ever he did so much in his sport but tbh most Australians don't even know who he is when I bring him up in conversation
when kambosos beat lopez, in the post fight interview he said "im the greatest australian fighter in history"... and i thought, JWP would disagree with you, lol
Heart of a true warrior, he got knocked down for the third time, but he was coming up almost immediately even on the third time. Lethwei match would be interesting to see between these two, but it's better not considering long term health.
For fighting way over his time and getting dropped 3 times in one round . Wayne had his time for a very long time Time to give it up Before the brain 🧠 cell count gets smaller and smaller
@The Salty Constitutionalist lol. Yeah. Of course I'm joking. I'm not really a grandad (though I feel like it sometimes) And he's still competing. It's incredible determination
Given his age and retirement I am impressed with John's performance. Nieky didn't seem as well conditioned as some of his prior fights though and he seemed more "lost", but he adapted to John's timings and attack patterns and punished his technical deficiencies when in time.
I don’t know which video YOU were watching mate...but I watched Nieky fight a perfect fight against an aged legend who was just too slow and predictable with his attacks, and had a terrible open guard which Holtzkien exposed beautifully in multiple different ways with numerous legitimate knockdowns (yup, that elbow too). Nieky was completely calm and technically superb. Bro, I honestly don’t think you have a clue what you’re talking about, sorry 😐🤷♂️🙏
@@caskstrength7629 yeah, it really was man. Kinda sad to watch, but Holzken played that perfectly. Tightened up his guard when needed, and just did beautiful counters...at least four landing HARD. 👌💪🙏
JWP is a legend and undoubtedly a warrior who would not give up, but he didn't look amazing in this fight at all. Unfortunately, you can see he's been in too many wars. He looked stiff and overextended in his strikes. The only thing that let him keep going was that he's still tough as nails. He should retire for good. He doesn't need to prove anything anymore, he's a legend of the sport. No need to risk his health in this type of mismatches.
Based on this match, three qualities stand out that make Holzken an extremely effective fighter: 1 excellent stamina, 2 insight, and 3 fast reflexes. His counter shots are deadly, he scored most of the heavy hits in the middle of an enemy attack, he immediately sees the vulnerability and strikes. And if the opponent does land a combo, he defends and immediately takes over the initiative again due to his superb stamina.
I had to do a double take when I saw the thumbnail. JWP still got the guts and heart but father time is always undefeated. I hope Nieky does more Muay Thai fights.
Many people seem unaware that JWP had a hip replacement in July of last year. That's why he retired, he wasn't sure if he would be able to fight again. If he was coming back I think maybe it was a touch premature, but time is no friend anymore. He acknowledges the good money is a big incentive, I hope he doesn't stay around too long.
Now that you mention it, it makes totally sense. He looked quite stiff and overextended in his strikes. Too many wars plus hip replacement will take much fluidity out of you. Still tough as nails, but he should hang em up for good. He's a legend ans has nothing to prove.
I feel bad for the older fella, he's still a worrior, the show of respect almost had me emotional, just a simple gesture like a hug a an offering of liquids was a beautiful thing.
This is classic for nieky holzken. His defense still translates with MMA gloves on. His check left hook and in the pocket style has always been my favorite
I thought JWP had retired. I think it's time for him to retire. Better to retire when you've still got it, then to just fade into obscurity with loss after loss.
Sorry, but wrong. The main problem was JWP’s terrible/non-existent guard. You cannot continually keep your hands low like that against ANY professional kick boxer/Thai boxer...especially one with Nieky’s clinical striking. Hell...I’m pretty sure even I woulda given JWP some problems if he stood in front of me with his hands constantly down like that (particularly after throwing) too. Then there was that badly trailing right hand that he kept throwing, and the roundhouses with little to no hip rotation. Nah man. You gotta respect a legend. But his main problem here was NOT his age (I’m also 45 btw...and 100% am faster than he is here 🤷♂️). His main problem was poor technique/technical mistakes...probably because he doesn’t train regularly anymore and forgetting his fundamentals/losing the muscle memory. No disrespect, he’d smash me I’m sure...but I know what I saw. 🙏
Wow great from both men, two fabulous fighters. Nieky a beast, although you would think at the tale end of his career he's still relatively close to peak condition, what a technician he is. JWP at 45 not that active anymore what can you say, but absolute warrior of a man, gave a great account of himself against a legendary much closer to peak fighter. Obviously he's good enough, but personally wouldn't like to seem in there with really high level guys who are much younger than him at 45, but warriors are warriors I guess.
