I agree with you Lailah. I grew up with my mom calling her friends her “girlfriends” and never perceived it any other way. Nowadays we can’t even call our female friends our “girlfriends”anymore without people thinking otherwise.
Well men could never say, “hey I’m hanging with my boyfriends “ lol ..so I’m glad women are getting the pressure lol

This is like explaining-at 70-why you are still best friends with your best friend from college to people who have become jaded by life. IT'S NOT RARE. So sad.
I think when you are a strong independent woman you don’t settle for less and you kinda feel like you don’t even need a man. (juss my humble opinion) I have an aunt that’s strong and independent and she’s so beautiful and still single. I believe it’s the same for Oprah and any other strong independent woman.

I think a lot of women choose to be single because you sacrifice so much as a woman to be with a man especially when you're a black woman wanting a BM. Honestly the chances of you getting that reciprocal nature of making that choice and that sacrifice a lot of the times you don't get so what is the payoff if you don't want kids what is the payoff if you don't care to get married

I believe Oprah and Gayle have a beautiful and rare platonic friendship. I honestly envy their friendship. I have always been a loyal friend who celebrates my friend's accomplishments. Whether they've lost weight, met a good man, landed a good career, etc, I celebrate them. Only to be met with disloyalty, jealousy, envy, and competition when it's my turn.. It's a shame that most women are disloyal, jealous, and competitive. I believe it's enate. It's just in some people's DNA. Which is why they think their friendship couldn't possibly be platonic. They have to be screwing or something.
Oh my God! Story of my life as a man. Unrelenting jealousy and one-sided friendships. Sigh. I find their friendship both admirable and pretty enviable as well. They are both SUPER lucky!!
It's not rare, you just have to find the right person. I have 2 best friends who I call my sisters. One I've known for over 25 years, and the other who I've known for about 17 years now. Both longer than I've known and been with my husband for. I am the most introverted, stick to myself person ever so it wasn't easy to make friends in general. Be careful with your time and energy and pay attention.

Honestly the world demonizes anything that doesn't help fulfill the patriarchy. They had a support system that was based on healthy friendship and as a woman that is needed because when it's all said and done sometimes that man and those kids don't stick around.
Even in movies they showcase at times men who have friendships with guys as healthy and awesome but then when no showcase friendship with women they'll make it toxic and try to turn it into something demented and sexual and it's just weird
I met Steadman Graham before on an intimate meeting with my team at a bank while he was endorsing a few city officials and although he may seem traditional about family, intellectual about his business etc., he has a more of a worship Oprah persona. When discussed he seem to have stars in his eyes and blushed like “I can’t believe she/the gift is blessing me with her presence!” kind of gleam. 🤷🏽♀️

He was at our bank talking to the employees about investing and pouring back into the community by buying up abandoned homes, rehabbing them, living in them and being one with the program and that we could have first dibs on the project but someone asked if Oprah was a part of the project, he went into start gazing as if he was so smitten. I say all that to say that if they’d ever got married, she’d be the one running that relationship not the other way around just to counter some of the thoughts about their relationship.

I don't and probably never will understand why people can't understand that people of the same sex can genuinely be friends for many years. The blessing of them being able to find the time and proximity of getting together often is work. Keeping and maintaining any relationship requires work. We all have had or have them, their friendship is a little unique. ❤

Steadman has asked Oprah to marry him many times! They even had a wedding planned in the 80s. She came to the realization that she “did not need to have a husband” and that’s why their wedding plans were canceled. It still didn’t prevent him from asking her throughout the years…
To be honest I think people have to find a reason to label something that they just can't understand for themselves. It makes no sense so they have to label it to understand it, which is a shame in this day and age
