I saw these clips today. I'm 70 years now. My father retired in 1957 or 58 as a mail driver. He use to run WL loco Shoranur to Mangalore. I was an ardent lover of steam locos. I could recognise the type of engineD from their sound like AWC, WP, WL, XD, WG, SP, PT, HPS, PT and so. What a days boy ! I miss all of you dears.
Yesterday, Today & Tomorrow, never forget this theory. If we today completing our journey in Diesel & Electric locomotives but Steam Locomotives has their own position in Indian Railways. I am giving salute all the maintenance staff, running staff who served in Steam Locomotives. JAI HIND.
My grandfather joined the Indian Railways in 1948. He served Eastern Railway till 1988 from Howrah to MughalSarai... Still alive with his glorious memories of Railway Life from Steam Engine's Second fire man (man who brokes tonnes of coals to feed those giant boiler) to A Grade Special Driver... What a memories he has... Love you 😘♥️ Dadu
came across this clip by accident..but boy, I'm lost for words.. it's so nostalgic..during childhood a few times I got in to it when my uncle (loco driver) was running those mighty iron horses..thanks for the awesome video
I have a copy of railway timetable of year 1942 .There were two steam engine trains for Chennai. One express was at afternoon and second mail was at night. Madras express was starts at 2pm from VT and was reachs to Madras central at 7.30pm next day. Total time of journey was 28.5hrs in 1942.Now with powerful diesel engine this time is 26.5hrs .So railway has made progress for saving if 1.5hr only.
The shiny polished engines of the West are of no comparison to these uniquely beautiful working engines. Travelled through India early 1970's and riding on these majestic trains was the highlight of my visit.
Im 61 now and this clip took me away to my childhood! The chugging sounds, grim whistles and coal dust in the eyes cant match airconditoned electric travel of today. Wish the railways had some sense of history to keep running some steams regularly!
aur sir us time par koi sleeper class bhi nahi hota thaa ek bistraa aur pani ka ek jaali wala jug bhar ke travel karte thay sir aur wo koyle ki baarik dhul aankho me jaati thi aur jaise train aati thi to maa chupaa deti thi
My grandfather, father and uncles were in the railways (WR) and drove these trains right up to the early '80s. The smell of the smoke and steam still lingers. I feel sorry for those who didn't have a chance to experience this majestic era.
All time classic vedio. Steam engines had done great work for us. In my childhood 1970-80 there were steam engine trains on Pune-Kolhapur route and Karjat-Khandala. Steam engines are always fascinating to us. Now that everything had gone with wind. Only memories are with us. Thanks.
My father " Sharadchandra Ramchandra Dalvi " was Locomotive Broad Gage Steam Engine Driver at Godhra and he was driver of passenger train driver of "Godhra to Anand and Anand to Khambat" he was retired in December 1978.
at 08 12 the engine by the Fort was a sight to see again and again. there was a charm about the metre gauge. as Sally Wilson commented, the engines were usualy grimy and full of soot all over, neverthless these work horses were tireless and the men were more so. with a kerchief as a bandana a the duo would alight every stop with a hammer and lubricating can to maintain and run the monsters. these days Loco Pilots have it lot easier than these magnificient men.
Nice video, made me long for the old times! The steam engines had beauty and a personality of their own.In comparison, modern engines look like the sleek suited villains in our films.
I remembered once i traveled in Steam Engine train in childhood in 1992 ...Nice and beautiful engines and that sound they make is awesome . Miss those days :-)
@Amit Joshi agree with both of you. We have coal available in India. Some R& D can be done to reduce the smoke. Re introduction to the steam loco is needed.
VERY GREAT LEGENDARY INDIAN RAILWAYS STEAM EARA. THAT DAYS ARE GOLDEN DAYS, WORKING IN STEAM LOCOMOTIVE IS AN ART, AND VERY HARD WORKING, CREWS, ARE THERE. I HAVE ALSO WORKED IN STEAM LOCOMOTIVES. THANKS FOR , THIS VERY NICE VEDIOS. I HAVE REMEMBERED MY SERVICE IN STEAM LOCOMOTIVES WOKING 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Superb footage-something a train aficianado like me was looking forward to- Great- sends me to 1960s and 1970s when down south of India, we had only those lovely horses called steam engines. Thanx
My grandfather James Richard Alphonso used to work in the Hubli Loco Shed as a Boiler Foreman B Grade. They used to call him Dicky Sahab. He also worked on testing and repairing engines on the Hubli Vasco line. His stories amazed me always. God bless papa ❤
Sir when i was 8 years old you did this comment now im 23 years of old watching this video i hope sir you well and fine even we dont know eachother but time made me write ❤
Plz reupload this awesum video without editing its original sound. Adding music was good but we would love to here original sound. Crying and remembering my childhood. My genereation people are so lucky that they have lots more to tell their coming generation.
My grandpa, my father, uncle they all in CR nagpur devision served indian railway i experienced the glorious days of indian railways such a beautiful days .
Wow great video man bag bag ho gaya bhai aise aur purani steam sheds ki vedio share kijiye background music super tha R.P.Z steam loco shed mera bhi un Dino bahut jaana hota tha U.D.Z TO R.P.Z. KAI baar steam engines ki sawari Kari , mein 96 mein UDAIPUR SE DIPLOMA IN MACHANICAL ENGG MEIN KAR RAHA THA.❤❤❤🌹🌹👍👍
Really excellent video.. recalling my childhood memories. I am now 62 yrs. the video would have been still more enjoyable had the background music not been there.. 👍
Mujhe to aankh mein pani aane laga. Purana koi bhi bhi cheez itna zyada pichhe bulate hai, ki bahut dukh hota hai soch ke, jaise apna khud ka mummy ki pyar hai waise. Ye sab cheez ki kimat koi bhi apna sare power ko use karke bhi de nahi sakta, yakeen karo ye baat.
Used to travel from Ranchi to Madras by train pulled by these majestic queens. Your face will be black due to coal, they gave a different kind of feeling
@Travelindiapress Me too.. grew up in Thar (Barmer Dist) and have seen the sand blowing whenever the trains would pass.. Indian Railways is the best!!!
Lovely video. Trains are my best adventure and entertainment and bringing back the memories. Recall traveling powered by steam engine Hyderabad to Poona a dozen times in early 60's and back to Hyderabad while in boarding school. Poona to Kalyan electric.
Do not fear, there are lots of heritage and tourist lines nowadays. There are even more that i know of being made that run newly refurbished steam engines! They are hard to find though, but they are surely worth the research.

Memorable Indeed!! Could you comment on the number of passenger coaches a steam locomotive can pull??? During my childhood days my parents and I would go down south - Kerala from Bombay. Upto Poona it was electric locomotive and from Poona a steam locomotive would continue the journey. I would enjoy the journey but do not know the number of passenger coaches
British steam Locomotive is awesome rather than American steam Locomotive. There is no any any comperison. I want to give a special thanks to British Engineering

My grand father is driver in indian railway .. And he runs steam engine... Nagpur to akola..
Even today..?

No train runs on steam...
Looks like a totally fake comment. Steam locomotives were last run between Nagpur to Akola in 1980s.
@@sanjayv8467 , pardon him for any grammatical errors.
Do we have Koyala Engine still today ? Plz help me as m willing to make one video on steam engine and its history in India.

That was the most virtuous service than service to unvisible God!
Glorious person from those glorious days.
Memorable History of Indian Train. I always remember steam locomotive train.

Sir Selvaraj you are very lucky.
Sir, you must have had a great experience in the engine room, did you blow the train whistle? . .

No machine can can compare to these mighty beasts. Man's finest creation
Life was great that time ..no rush,no competition no 9 to 9 job
Not exactly. Those days were a rush compared to the days of bullock carts..CHANGE is the only thing that will remain unchanged.
Just freedom struggle and exploitation of Indians
@Satyam Patel there was always competition.
one of the best youtube video i had ever seen....beautifully videographed and nostalgic
The shiny polished engines of the West are of no comparison to these uniquely beautiful working engines. Travelled through India early 1970's and riding on these majestic trains was the highlight of my visit.
We need more people like you in this world of racism! 🙏
Come again sir...
Our country has lots of places worth visiting
Most of those locomotives came from West.
To think that these majestic beasts were roaming the length of this country! Thanl you for bringing back some really nice memories!

Yes.. Indian railways ko kuch steam or kuch alco kuch diesel run krwate rehne chaiye
