Lyrics
I'm scared of dying (don't go)
Is that on fire?
Am I a liar? Ooh
(I can't be quiet)
I'm scared of dying
No gun required, ooh
My skin is fire, it's so desired
Is that designer?
Is that on fire?
Am I a liar?
Oh, will this help me lay down?
My skin is fire
It's so desired
No gun required
Oh, will this help me lay down?
I'm scared of dying
It's fine
Oh, what's a fiver?
Being young in the city
Belief and saying something
Would you please listen?
Would you please listen?
We can see what's missing
When you bleed, say so we know
Being young in the city
Belief and saying something
Would you please listen?
Would you please listen?
We can see what's missing
When you bleed, say so we know
Council, being listed
Man I kinda miss it, hey
I'm a designer
Unite pariahs
Am I a liar?
Oh, will this help me lay down?
Kids don't want rifles
They want Supreme
No gun required
Oh, will this help me lay down?
We're scared of dying
It's fine
What's a fiver?
Being young in the city
Belief and saying something
Would you please listen?
Would you please listen?
We can see what's missing
When you bleed, say so we know
Being young in the city
Belief and saying something
Gone off designer
It's all on fire
And we're all liars
So won't you help me lay down
My skin is fire
It's so desired
No gun required
Oh, won't you help me lay down?
I'm scared of dying
It's fine
Oh, what's a fiver?
Being young in the city
Belief and saying something
And saying something
And saying something

I will not be able to express what this song makes me feel but hearing it in this soft, soulful version instead of the normal version which feels rather harsh and apocalyptic is a whole new sensation, it’s like getting to know a completely new side of a person you’ve known for years. Indescribable.
It's not that deep he's just doing an acoustic version of a song.
@Juli that’s exactly how I felt! This has always been a favourite 1975 song of mine, and hearing this version transports you to a totally new place. I love them both so much and both hit in different ways.
😅😅😅😢🎉😢😅😢😢🎉😊😢🎉😢🎉🎉😮
@@ExploreWithEthan Do you not know how music works??
i love you
What I really appreciate about The 1975 is Matty sings with emotions and you feel it too as you listen. They are one of the few artists who never shy away from raising their thoughts about society and social issues in their lyrics. They break the stereotypes and that's what makes them different. Love the band ❤️
LOVE THIS
His pursuit towards truth and justice through his music is truly admirable, even if I don't agree with all his beliefs
Well said! Loved these boys since I first heard them. Hope they achieve the greatness they so richly deserve!! ❤
Absolutely he's one of a kind I love his lyrics a d the passion he gives x
We love The 1975 and they love us
The fact that Matty wanted to do one more song even though his voice was strained adds so much more to this live performance.
Ikr? A legend he is ❤
I do also think drinking and smoking doesn't help the voice
His job as a vocalist. Doesn't add much mate.
🙄
Are you joking?? He's so heavily autotuned this is anything but "live".
i don't care about fame but getting to the level of success of being able to jam like this in a big studio space with friends and likeminded musicians is the dream
THIS IS THE COMMENT AND THE GOAL
They never fail to make you feel something
yep..pity
This is the most accurate comment about the 1975 I've ever seen
This should be on every setlist until the day your vocal chords say otherwise
PUT THIS ON THE UPCOMING ALBUM AS A BONUS TRACK 😭
Its literally on a brief inquiry into online relationships.
@@MaddoggMikeTV not this arrangement
Such an underrated song
thats extremly subjective.
Well it did come out 45 minutes ago 😂
It was one of the first songs I heard of theirs. I love it. Special place in my heart
It was my number 1 played song on Apple Music last year
It was just uploaded, what do you want.
This was unexpected but I LOVE it. It's one of my favorite songs off abiior, and this arrangement brings it perfectly into the new era.
I'm in love with this spontaneous performance. I can't express what it made me feel. I missed this song so much ❤️
No words for how stunning this is....If anyone doubts these talents this will prove wrong...Such a honest performance
What I love most about this is it really encapsulates the irony and natural contrast of The 1975. The heavily altered vocals backed by an acoustic string band, the constant happy songs with sad lyrics. The intimacy, and the commentary. I love these guys
I recently discovered the 1975, I cant believe how much good music ive missed out on. Every day I have a new favorite song. Thank you for giving us such beautiful art.
me too! i listened to a couple songs off of bfiafl when it came out but i only recently really got into their music, can never get enough! going to see them in november :))
How awesome to hear! Im seeing them in October! Enjoy the show :D@@lunasimss
@@lunasimssI just saw them live again on the 15th. it was my 6th time. how'd you like it?! the first time seeing them live is always something special. they do a good job of playing several tracks from each album too.
Same! I’m a newer fan. I saw them in September and it was hands down one of the best concerts I’ve ever been to.
can’t wait to be old and watch this shit back, i’ll probably cry
Ohmygod this song 😭😭 Im adoring all these performances from the studio, they just feel so sincere and its beautiful. itd be nice if they did If I Believe You as well 🥺
When you don't just hear the song.
💓You feel it💓
They are just so good. It's like someone wrapped all the best bits of Sigur Ros, Bon Iver with a sprinkling of Bruce Springsteen in one glorious musical place.
oh yes
You just mentioned all of my favourite musicians in one sentence! ❤
You articulated what I couldn’t
this song never ceases to give me chills. so strong. damn.
I feel like this is the exact moment when he decided to sing this version on the roof in the current tour
Love any piece of sound coming from these guys
You guys should absolutely do more sessions like this, these have been great!
Should release a full acoustic album 🔥
So happy to witness this band’s greatness 💕
This is freaking beautiful- didn’t know I needed this until now
I did not want this to end
“I’m a designer, unite pariahs” is one of the best lyrics of the last decade. This rules.
What does this lyric mean exactly? I’m lost and hoping for a great reply with how high of regard you have for it…
Replying cause I also wanna know
It’s late and I’m tired so this may not be the most eloquent, but I’ll try and explain what I take it to mean :) I think it has a double meaning. Designers are people who make and create, but it can also mean people who plot things out. The first meaning is that The 1975 are designers/artists (“I’m a designer”) and the music they create has united people who feel left out or left behind by society (“unite pariahs”), and it’s helped them feel better. The second meaning to me is darker - there are many hate groups online made of people who consider themselves to be outcasts. The line could be from the perspective of a someone who has plotted plans out online and brought together people with the same ideologies, like incels (which feels very fitting for a song about the gun violence in the US).
I’d be interested in hearing what other people think though!!
this guy just made high regard statement and then dipped
This song is always emotional. This rendition took it to the next level
Just saw this performed at their show in KC last night. I went looking for it…and glad I found it. This was beautiful!
Mattys voice is beautiful on this, so strong, so intense. A stunning performance from a superb band. 👏
I thought I would have grown out of this band
but I just grew along with them
---this band has been and stayed the soundtrack of my life
Second this
raw music its rare we need to keep and treasure this kind of band they deserved to be heard and recognize their art more..
This was incredible! The 1975 is the greatest of all time. This can’t be changed.
This is as organic as it can get, no edits and all in real time. All the emotion and authenticity in that one take.
...organic...? So his voice always sounds like it is going through autotune?
@@eddiep2899 obviously a desired effect
@@eddiep2899 I meant the set up was organic in the sense it was almost impromptu but I agree not so much the singers voice.
This is how you take something already great and improve on it. What a trip
that shot where he grabs the water instead of the wine... maybe I'm looking into it too much, maybe I'm projecting, maybe it was gin, but it echoed, beautifully, the sobering message of this song, to me.
That had head to it; definitely a beer 😅
@Chase_AM omfg you're right 😂😂 I'm sad my musings are irrelevant but I had forgotten all about this video. Thanks for saying something, I fucking love this song ❤
If this song wasn't your favorite before, now you just don't have a chance.💥💯 This intro 'The phantom of the opera is there, inside my mind' was nice! Matty, you're incredible! Guys, you're dangerous!🔥
My favorite song by The 1975-- I loved this rendition more than the original.
The way he queues Ross and George in is unreal, and then queues Jamie to play keys on his own then back in. Great dynamics. Great performance
The hoarseness and strain adds to the pain of this song. Masterpiece.
They finally released this version on Spotify 😭
How can you not love The 1975 ?
Literally got chills from this! Incredible!
This is a very much welcomed surprise. One of my favourite songs
Every. Single. Song. Of theirs gives me goosebumps. ESPECIALLY this version. I haven’t been obsessed with a band like I am with The 1975, since 2003-04. I press play on the first song on their self titled album and let it play through every one of their albums. It gets me through the day. Keep it up guys!
I've heard it once live and it was like a surprise I wasn't prepared to hear this song on a summer festival. Matty just sat there on a chair and was almost crying he couldn't sing and I was screaming my lungs out I've never felt this amount of emotions on a full concert and yet this was a small summer festival... He's just so unbelievable
I want to dedicate this to my Wife, Aimee, that died nine years ago. She was so resolute and calm. I, on the other hand, was a mess. I guess we just acted brave, to impress each other.
This is so awesome. I genuinely don’t hear people talk about this song enough these days, feels like it got left behind a little in the pre-pandemic days. Which is a real shame, because it was always one of the best tracks off of A Brief Inquiry. I really, really love this version. Can’t wait for the new album!
he played this at the first show of the bfiafl tour and I was so lucky to be there. they way everyone screamed when he sang the first line cause NO ONE was expecting it, it was amazing.
Words can't begin to describe how much I love this version and how it makes me feel
I like America and America likes me is what got me into this band originally, which catapulted them into my favorite band. This version truly means a lot. The boys do it again
Brooo I love it… it’s crazy the emotions you can feel through the playing and the singing. The passion is unmatched🥹
Wow. this just brought tears to my eyes. fkn hell
i keep listening and listening and listening to this... this version is angelic
The untouchable rage on it.. love that
this is the best thing i’ve ever heard
Chills. This sounds so brilliant through a slightly hoarse vocal and with all the studio noises left intact
It’s a crime this version isn’t on Spotify.
this song is my absolute favourite!
Ladies and gentleman, the best band to ever exist. The 1975.
This isn’t getting enough attention it’s so incredibly good 😭😭😭
this version really doing justice to the lyrics🥺♥
literally almost started crying- this version brings such a beautiful nature to this song
one of my favorites off this album & damn, this version made me cry. absolutely beautiful.
I honestly love the addition of this man's poor voice being strained. It totally adds and rounds the song off. It makes it sound more raw and emotional.
I’ve been in love with this band for almost 10 years. Somehow they keep making me love them even more each time I see something like this. The emotion behind his voice is so heartbreaking
the complete masterpiece that both versions of this track are is something to be dearly noted. 1975, you guys are doing great great things. thank you.
The part when Matty says I'm scared of dying this fight! God that put much of the pain in my life I battle now
Everyone suddenly discovering this song can catch me feeling this years ago. Yes, my ego is attached to this comment and I have comfortably said this is their greatest sleeper track to date, since it's original release. And yes, you're allowed to have been wrong since then. If a band only has to soften a production to make you listen, you were never listening hard enough. This song has always been among their best.
Facts brother, always been one of my favorites
I’ll never forget seeing my favorite band a fourth time when out of nowhere Matty gets on the roof and the boys play this song, this way. Needless to say, this song meant something new and beautiful in ways that only left tears in the moment. ❤
This is best live version of i like America gives an acoustic slowed feel defo still has the power in the voice
| GOD BLESS THE 1975 |
It is really cool to get a look into how the band puts something together like this. Matty is a natural band leader, and you can see it with how he directs the band throughout this video.
Such a good arrangement I’ve listened to this like 10 times in a day 😭😭😭
i've recently been listening to i like america again and matty knows it. love both of the versions. each one beautiful and its own way.
this song has grown on me every performance I see of it since the release. I didn't like it when the album came out, it just sounded so different than everything that they had previously released. now - I love every rendition I hear. it's amazing how every song, album, era of the 1975 will change and grow with you. I'm so thankful for them and the talent they continue to share with the world.
Love this so much! So glad you guys are back with us!! We've missed you & are do excited for the new album!!
This was my favourite song of theirs for years, this version is beautiful
Such a beautiful live composition of a beautiful song. I love this band so much. The way they wrote and perform gets to my soul every time.
My favourite tune from you guys. Which is saying something because I love anything you guys put out.
this is so touching. I wish they played this when I saw them live.
I fucking love this band so much it hurts me
Love the “The Phantom of The Opera” nod at the very beginning
This is beautiful. One of my favorite tracks from the 2018 record being performed with a new arrangement during this era. Just perfect.
I remember showing all my friends this band in college in 2013. I’m so glad they are still here as they are.
I'd never heard this 1975 song until now, but it's definitely my new favourite.
this live version should be on spotify, so good men😭
I love the build up to the song. Adds suspense. Can't wait to see them again in the summer.
In love w this rendition
They seem so happy this era and just so in love with their music and it really shows
I lost my brother around the release of this song. Lyrics helped me a lot.
I'm speechless.
i am absolutely lost for words about how this rendition made me feel.
I have no words, this is so so beautiful. I am so thankful to be listening to this.
Seeing them for the first time in January. Absolutely cannot wait. They’ve gone from strength to strength.
They are real person with full of emotions, thoughts and passion. So powerful and touching 🥲🫶🏽❤️ Can’t stop to love them
Full-body goosebumps 🥹🥹 I love this band so much
I close my eyes and enjoy this art !! I love this live version , it’s so spontaneous and magical …
Thanks so much 1975 and Matty !! Thanks for existing!!!
This video made me remember why I love this band so much, SIMPLY STUNNING. Mattys performance is incredible 🖤
Love this arrangement. Always great instincts when it comes to their arrangements. Both versions are amazing. This one made me teary. Bravo.
I can't express enough how blessed my soul is to hear this 😭
This is one of my fav songs and I think this is now one of my fav versions of the song
