  • It’s easy to get frustrated with winged wet flies it’s not the simplest of fly tying tasks. The rub is though do you really think the fish care if you have married up your slips? If you do then I am sorry to break it to you, they really don’t! We tie ourselves up in knots trying to create perfection where as more often than not a fish will take most anything that is presented in the right way at the right depth and speed.
I do not like to waste anything so when I got some really old hen pheasant I thought they would be ideal for some winged wets. Unfortunately, the quality was not there to produce what I would call camera flies. Still they were certainly good enough for flies to fill my own box. The purpose of todays extra ‘Lockdown’ video is to show that you can make use of the worst of materials.

Thanks for the video. I prefer to watch the simple fishing flies over the complex pretty ones. Keep up the great content.

Still finding some videos I haven't seen yet. Anything March Brown is good by me!
Bronze Mallard is a great substitute, the speckling is beautiful! This pattern has everything a good trout fly should have! I personally would fish this as the dangling fly on a three fly rig. In British Columbia where I was born and where I like to go for my fishing vacation, you can only fish a single fly, this would be a great little bug for there!
I think regarding flies catching more anglers than fish, it would behoove us to remember that if we are attracted to how it looks, we may fish it with more confidence and that can matter when it comes to catching fish. Great video Lindsay! Appreciated!!

Yes, we are - at least so far - allowed to go outdoors alone or in small groups of < 10 persons and there is the river Vantaa with its rapids in our neighbourhood. Unfortunately the water is - as always during springtime - rather opaque because of mud etc. I hope it will get clearer soon!

Hi Jeff, Its a Jan Tevedek Rotary vice, unfortunately they are no longer being made. It's a real shame but the maker and owner is in poor health.

Have you thought of using a synthetic fibre for wings. I've been experimenting with some fibres and the results so far have been not bad. If I can I'll post something on your face book page.

Hi Robin, I have tried some of the synthetic wings but to be honest I am not keen.
