    That was an eye opener. about how much time it takes to make one video. They are sooo good!
    I wanted to check, is it the case that you always select all the main images for your pages and glue them down throughout
    the whole book before you start on your second layer?🌻

    • @BookandPaperArts
      @BookandPaperArts  Год назад +2

      Hi Tanja. I guess I let the book talk to me when I am choosing my images although on a less mysterious note, the first thing really is to see what pieces fit the size of the pages. Next, a lot of the time I am working on pieces for the business and there is some calculation there BUT - earlier this year I made a decision that I will no longer sell my altered vintage books. They mean too much to me and as such, this piece really is for me which means I AM USING THE GOOD STUFF. There are images I have promised myself to put in a book and these are from that stash.
      Then, as I said, I needed dramatic and formidable pieces to stand up to the stamping so I tried and eliminated a bunch. While sorting and trying pieces together I cycle through a lot of images (does this bird go with that angel? No? Then what about that bird? Hmmm.) Doing this, possible layouts start to form although they definitely continue to evolve. So the answer kind of is I probably have one layout pre-planned with elements of other ones and possibilities in the pipeline.
      Although, normally an altered book (where I remove and glue pages together) takes about six weeks to make and in that case I am doing one layout at a time. Choose a dozen potential images per layout and cycle through combinations and possibilities. Discard, try something else. I don't really plan the images for more than one layout at a time there although, as I say, I get ideas.
      Whew! I hope this all makes sense. Let me know if I can clarify. Kelly

    • @tanjablume6343
      @tanjablume6343 Год назад

      @@BookandPaperArts Wow, Kelly, thank you for this in depth response, that is amazing about a dozen images to compare per layout, that means if you have 11 layouts per altered book, you have more than 120 images ready to go at the beginning of a project?🤔 I can so understand that you are now choosing after having worked on a book for 6 weeks, that you want to keep it. Do you feel more freedom when working on it, knowing that you get to keep it, does it increase your joy😌 while creating?🙋‍♀️🌻

      Thank you, Megan, for this thoughtful message. It means a lot to me. I often feel as though I am sending out digital messages in virtual bottles and I look forward to hearing when they have been "found", such as this. Coloured pencils will work great with collage and journal arts. If you don't have a paper stash you can start with magazines and free brochures and stuff (great way to find "found" text). Keep me posted on how it goes! Kelly

      @@BookandPaperArts Thank you Kelly. I have finished a few pages in my book. Luckily my mom gave me the most wonderful book with tons of interesting pictures and vintage pictures too. I just have the problem of not stopping soon enough. My first set of pages turned out to be much too busy. I did two more last night that turned out a lot better. How do you keep your pages from sticking together after they dry? My pages are sticking together even though it’s dry. Could it be the semi gloss spray that I applied last do you think?

    • @BookandPaperArts
      @BookandPaperArts  Год назад +1

      @@Meglovessage7 Hi Megan. Boy, is it hard to know when to stop. It took me a long time to learn but I now make art journal pages in a sketchbook, not my altered books, and there I go nuts, with thousands of layers. This has really helped me learn where the perfect stopping point (probably) is. As for the sticking pages, I haven't used the gloss spray but it certainly sounds like the culprit. I used to make acrylic techniques on book pages but that really made them stick together so maybe this has something like that in there. I rarely add a finish to my pages - only if there is something really chalky or charcoal-like. What happens if you use a lighter touch with it? Just hold the book far away and spray super light?
