I luckily got see her perform this on stage in the Color Purple (breathtaking). Cynthia has just been cast to play Elphaba opposite Ariana Grande (as Galinda) in the film version of Wicked. Can't wait!

She actually wrote and sang Stand up, the song during the credits I believe. She was nominated for an academy award for it against Elton John and lost. Harriet is not a musical, but there was some singing for the role as well :)

Sadly Oprah's image from Jennifer Hudson's performance at the Kennedy Center Honors was intercut into Ms. Erivo''s incredible rendition on this nighttime show. Oprah was NOT at this performance. Cynthia is a force of nature and certainly does not need allusion of collaboration with Oprah. I saw her in the role on BWAY and I truly have rarely been SO moved. This performance is not in any way diminished because of the fake editing. She is a force of nature! Thank you Ms. Erivo for your amazing gift!
