I found out, after searching the Internet up and down, that the problem was the Google app, I had to uninstall the update and update it again, after that, my Android auto text message reading started working, thank you anyway guys, I really appreciated your help.

Hey Guys... finally got the Android Auto to work in my 2016 Civic with the Pioneer AVH4200 NEX... It was installed with a combo cable of HDMI and USB, the installer had the setting set to HDMI opposed to USB2, once I changed that... Android Auto worked immediately, thanks...
Would you recommend replacing the factory head unit on a 16 silverado for the 4200? I am going to add 2 amps and replace door speakers and add a sub in my truck but the head unit looks nice. Any benefit for 4200 over factory?
I'm confused about the USB ports described at 01:31 and 07:14. Does that mean there's a dedicated USB port for Apple devices and a dedicated USB port for Android devices? I only have one USB port in my car (2017 Subaru Crosstrek Premium), so does this mean that I have to choose whether this will exclusively be for Android devices or iPhone/iPad devices at the time of install? Awesome review. I'll be buying this model in the very near future. In future reviews can you put the radio to a HD or RDS capable radio station that is playing music? That way we can get a better example of how the Station/Song/Artist/Album appears on the display and how it scrolls on the display. The news radio channel you had the radio tuned to in this review wasn't really "exercising" the display capability.
Having a problem with my radio. Carplay locks up the radio and the radio resets by itself occasionally. Any input or troubleshooting suggestions would be appreciated. Using an iPhone 7+ updated to 12.1 and the radio is updated to 1.07. Checked all connections and everything is installed correctly.

steve dental yes if you disconnect the battery you lose your settings, we recommend taking pictures of your settings. No you cannot keep the factory CD changer

The biggest difference is the Nex has a DVD player, detachable face, SiriusXM support, and Android auto support. The AppRadio has a capacitor touch touch screen. Sound and amp support wise they are the same, awesome.
With the soon to be released Samsung Galaxy S8's having a USC-C type plug, will the 4200NEX be able to use these phones with an adapter that goes from USB-C to micro USB. I know that my Note 7 that I briefly had included this adapter, but was wondering if there was any difference in functionality that this head unit will not support the new phones.

Will this radio handle two speakers in each front bucket seat, making four (back speakers?), plus two front door speakers, plus a sub woofer? I have a 1996 Mazda Miata M Edition.
Kind of you will have to wire the rear headrest speakers in series so the ohm load is usable for the radio. You will also need an amp for the sub, the radio does not have power for that.

Curious on how you install this and run the lightning cable for carplay..... Do you just like drill a hole in the dash somewhere to feed the wire through?

Moriah Garrett yes it only works when plugged in. No it only works CarPlay certified music apps, no other navigation then Apple maps ( no Waze). Art only is displayed when the phone is plugged in not over Bluetooth.
Thanks for the great video gentlemen. I have a few of questions for this unit also (asked some of the same questions about the 4100). 1. How many seconds does she take to boot up when you start the car? 2. How is playback from the SD card? How long does it take to read an SD card and does it have to reread the card each time the unit starts up? 3. Does that warning menu come on every time you turn on the car? I'm getting a stereo like this mainly to use with a backup camera. Will I have to wait for that warning to go away every time I want to back out of a space or will the rearview camera come on automatically whenever I throw her in reverse? 4. Can you turn off HD radio so it just tunes analog radio?
Ara Arzuman ok 3. The backup camera overrides everything and displays the camera image no matter what is going on. 4 yes you can turn off the HD if you want.

Ara Arzuman thank you. You can plug the mic into the AV input, but you would have to be on the AV source to hear it. The camera input will not switch to any source on reverse trigger.

What happens during this common on-road scenario: Android Auto is running navigation; Pandora from that Android phone is streaming in background, and a phone call from that Android phone comes in. Will the Pandoria media automatically mute to allow for better microphone-speech input?
Five Star Car Stereo Awesome. I have the 2004 Acura TSX with the OEM Navigation System. Some folks have insisted that I need the Metra 99-7809B Din Dash Kit to fit this system, but the Dash Kit descriptions read that it is only needed for 2004 Acuras that don't have Navigation. What do you guys think? Can this system be fitted without the Dash Kit?

JR Armstrong thank you. On app, there is no other apps you can add right now. You only get the app in Android Auto. I have never seen an option for Sat view on the maps. That doesn't mean it is not there, just have not found it yet.
I bought this radio in September, trucks been in and out of 5 shops being built. So the radio maybe has 20 hours in it and now it won't play for more than 5 minutes without giving me an amp error. Speaker leads aren't even connected to anything as I have an amp on speakers and an amp on subs.
In your experience how reliable is the motorized screen as far as longevity goes? it would be my first motorized screen and I know that the more moving parts there are the more there is to go wrong..
Hi, I know that you guys are really knowledgeable. I’m looking to pick up a 4200 NEX but I want to have the backup camera always be able to be on as well as switch to it when the car is in reverse. How does the radio need to be wired? Do you still have to wire the 4200 NEX to the brake lights to get this working? Seems when I was reading online you can connect the camera reverse wire to the 4200 NEX and it has software to be able to let you still view the camera any time you need to without being in reverse. Is this true?
With the USB ports in the back of the Unit will the installer need to bring a USB cable out from the back of the unit so I can connect my phone? I have an Android but I think this question applies to both Android and Apple. Thanks. Clayton
Clayton Courtney yes you need to run it to the front. It only comes with 1 USB, we recommend getting a second. USB 1 is for CarPlay, updates, and iPods. USB 2 is for Android Auto.

AppRadio live is not real Navigation, it does not give you turn by turn. It is kind of a joke. If you want what you are asking for you need Android Auto. It is the best way to use your phone for navigation on a radio.
Hoping you can help- we recently purchased a motorhome that came with the pioneer Avh-4200nex. We are currently traveling and it sounds like the dvd/cd player is continuously spinning or searching. We have not had the issue before. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated
Hi, I just got an issue withe my pioneer avh 4200nex, that I'm guessing u can help me with, now everything works except HD Radio not playing it started doing this today @ 6:30 pm eastern time when my wife got home all she did was Lower the the volume while she was listening to HD Radio 📻 so she could call me, now I get in & HD Radio won't work for some reason I called pioneer they say it's probably antena mite be disconnected & tat will cause HD Radio to not work so check Antena it's connected so wat could it be please help
Are all the HD channels gone or just the one you normally listen to? Our station here drop off all the time. If it is just one station you may want to call the station. The only setting for the HD radio is the reception mode found on page 21. It is just for HD sound blending
My apple car play and Android auto no longer work. I get a message, "no response". Been like this for a year upgraded to latest firmware, took it out made sure all connections were good and tight. Still nothing. Supposedly other people across multiple pioneer platforms are experiencing similar problems? Very frustrating.

Andres Chile thank you. This is a tuff one for us, here in the states we no longer have mobile tv tuners. According to Pioneer the turner works on all AVH radios using that yellow plug on the back. It may not work on the us version though. Unfortunately you are just going to have to plug it in and see if it works.
Andres Chile the government sold the rights to the bandwidth to the the cell phone companies. Manly because most people have cable tv in the house. If you live were there is no cable there is satellite. Plus Hulu and Netflix are taking over.

I purchased this radio because of Apple CarPlay, however in my country (Ecuador), Apple Maps doesn't work, so I saw that there is Pioneer AppRadio where I can use Waze in some kind of native app, so my question is which cables should I buy to use correctly the app?. Actually I tried to connect my iPhone directly to the USB port, but seems like nothing happens. The Pioneer AppRadio doesn`t appear and I think maybe I need some additional cables. Plug into the HDMI on the back of the radio. Plug in the apple cable, plug in your phone. Select HDMI from the source menu, your phone should appear on the screen of the radio. Use your phone the pick an app and that about it.

I've had it installed for a couple days and like the potential of it. I'll reserve my actual reviews of it for later. But, it looks really nice so far. One little gotcha I had was that the subwoofer was not automatically enabled. That seems kind of odd. I would think it should just work. But what caused some real frustration was that in the audio menu I could only see the "subwoofer settings" selection which was gray'd out. I could not figure out how to get it to enable the subwoofer. The reason I could not figure that out is that when I scrolled through the audio functions, I was paging down instead of actually scrolling. In paging down, it never displays the "enable subwoofer" selection. Only when using cursor down a tap at a time does it actually show that selection. That has to be a bug because if i use page up/down, I would never be offered the chance to turn on the subwoofer.
Hi guys, I've enjoyed the unit except that I have now lost fader and balance. I can get into the menu and move the dot around, but the sound doesn't change. I've reset the unit, unplugged the battery negative, upgraded the firmware, but no change. I expect I have a hardware problem, but thought I'd ask if you all had seen this issue before. Mine is a 4200nex. For now, I've limited juice to the front speakers in the speaker control menu to fake rear fader. At least I can do that as a workaround. Thx for any suggestions.
I know I'm behind, but I just bought this radio. I haven't installed it yet, but I have a question. Why would I need to install the bluetooth microphone if I'm using the idatalink maestro module that retains my steering wheel controls? My Tacoma has that feature in the steering wheel controls. Jeffrey Love because the steering wheel controls do not connect to the factory mic. The iDatalink can't see the mic so you have to use the Pioneer mic.
Whats the difference between the AVH 4200NEX and the AVH 4201NEX besides the AVH 4201NEX comes with a backup camera? as far as specs and all that fun stuff?

Albert Hernandez the main difference is the 4200 has the Auto " ok" screen go away after 7 seconds, full iDatalink interfacing, auto switching for CarPlay and Android Auto. It also has full power off

+Audel Acosta there is a firmware up for the 4200, I would do that next to make sure it is not something in the radios firmware. The first question they ask is make sure the radio is up to date.

Mike Tuck I think most of it is for iPhone and speed. We take photos of all the sound screens on the 4200 so when it loses power we have a backup.

rfrancoi needs to be fat32. We have only tested up to a 32gb. People have reported using bigger.

The main difference is auto " OK" screen off after 7 seconds, full power off mode, and auto switching for CarPlay / Android auto

You can play any music app, you will just have basic control. Track up, down, and pause

Thank you. Pioneer has switched to a new harness, the colors are the same though. Everything else is the same.

Moriah Garrett yes it only works when plugged in. No it only works CarPlay certified music apps, no other navigation then Apple maps ( no Waze). Art only is displayed when the phone is plugged in not over Bluetooth.

1. How many seconds does she take to boot up when you start the car?
2. How is playback from the SD card? How long does it take to read an SD card and does it have to reread the card each time the unit starts up?
3. Does that warning menu come on every time you turn on the car? I'm getting a stereo like this mainly to use with a backup camera. Will I have to wait for that warning to go away every time I want to back out of a space or will the rearview camera come on automatically whenever I throw her in reverse?
4. Can you turn off HD radio so it just tunes analog radio?

Ara Arzuman thank you. You can plug the mic into the AV input, but you would have to be on the AV source to hear it. The camera input will not switch to any source on reverse trigger.

You have to use the Pioneer mic. You can sometimes take out your factory mic and mount the Pioneer's in its place.

What happens during this common on-road scenario: Android Auto is running navigation; Pandora from that Android phone is streaming in background, and a phone call from that Android phone comes in. Will the Pandoria media automatically mute to allow for better microphone-speech input?
tboone123 yes it will pause the music for a phone call or text message. The GPS will also pause or interrupt the music to give directions.
Five Star Car Stereo Awesome. I have the 2004 Acura TSX with the OEM Navigation System. Some folks have insisted that I need the Metra 99-7809B Din Dash Kit to fit this system, but the Dash Kit descriptions read that it is only needed for 2004 Acuras that don't have Navigation. What do you guys think? Can this system be fitted without the Dash Kit?

JR Armstrong thank you. On app, there is no other apps you can add right now. You only get the app in Android Auto. I have never seen an option for Sat view on the maps. That doesn't mean it is not there, just have not found it yet.

I bought this radio in September, trucks been in and out of 5 shops being built. So the radio maybe has 20 hours in it and now it won't play for more than 5 minutes without giving me an amp error. Speaker leads aren't even connected to anything as I have an amp on speakers and an amp on subs.
In your experience how reliable is the motorized screen as far as longevity goes? it would be my first motorized screen and I know that the more moving parts there are the more there is to go wrong..

With the USB ports in the back of the Unit will the installer need to bring a USB cable out from the back of the unit so I can connect my phone? I have an Android but I think this question applies to both Android and Apple.

Clayton Courtney yes you need to run it to the front. It only comes with 1 USB, we recommend getting a second. USB 1 is for CarPlay, updates, and iPods. USB 2 is for Android Auto.

Yes those models are our 4100 and 4200 NEX radios. No Mirrorlink is a total wast that is why Pioneer dropped it on the new models.

James Vaughn yes it has a 5 or so tilt up for the screen. So if it is low it will tilt up for you.

AppRadio live is not real Navigation, it does not give you turn by turn. It is kind of a joke. If you want what you are asking for you need Android Auto. It is the best way to use your phone for navigation on a radio.

Hoping you can help- we recently purchased a motorhome that came with the pioneer Avh-4200nex. We are currently traveling and it sounds like the dvd/cd player is continuously spinning or searching. We have not had the issue before. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated

Hi, I just got an issue withe my pioneer avh 4200nex, that I'm guessing u can help me with, now everything works except HD Radio not playing it started doing this today @ 6:30 pm eastern time when my wife got home all she did was Lower the the volume while she was listening to HD Radio 📻 so she could call me, now I get in & HD Radio won't work for some reason I called pioneer they say it's probably antena mite be disconnected & tat will cause HD Radio to not work so check Antena it's connected so wat could it be please help
Are all the HD channels gone or just the one you normally listen to? Our station here drop off all the time. If it is just one station you may want to call the station. The only setting for the HD radio is the reception mode found on page 21. It is just for HD sound blending

Your car has a factory double din spot, it will fit. You will use the factory radio bracket to mount the new radio.

Andres Chile thank you. This is a tuff one for us, here in the states we no longer have mobile tv tuners. According to Pioneer the turner works on all AVH radios using that yellow plug on the back. It may not work on the us version though. Unfortunately you are just going to have to plug it in and see if it works.

Andres Chile the government sold the rights to the bandwidth to the the cell phone companies. Manly because most people have cable tv in the house. If you live were there is no cable there is satellite. Plus Hulu and Netflix are taking over.

No, try the restore settings to get radio back to default setting. Make sure all the HD channels are doing it, sometimes the stations get lazy.

I purchased this radio because of Apple CarPlay, however in my country (Ecuador), Apple Maps doesn't work, so I saw that there is Pioneer AppRadio where I can use Waze in some kind of native app, so my question is which cables should I buy to use correctly the app?. Plug into the HDMI on the back of the radio. Plug in the apple cable, plug in your phone. Select HDMI from the source menu, your phone should appear on the screen of the radio. Use your phone the pick an app and that about it.

I've had it installed for a couple days and like the potential of it. I'll reserve my actual reviews of it for later. But, it looks really nice so far. One little gotcha I had was that the subwoofer was not automatically enabled. That seems kind of odd. I would think it should just work. But what caused some real frustration was that in the audio menu I could only see the "subwoofer settings" selection which was gray'd out. I could not figure out how to get it to enable the subwoofer. The reason I could not figure that out is that when I scrolled through the audio functions, I was paging down instead of actually scrolling. In paging down, it never displays the "enable subwoofer" selection. Only when using cursor down a tap at a time does it actually show that selection. That has to be a bug because if i use page up/down, I would never be offered the chance to turn on the subwoofer.
Yeah the sub off is an odd thing for sure. It has been like that since the 4000 so we are just kind of used to it.

I've enjoyed the unit except that I have now lost fader and balance. I can get into the menu and move the dot around, but the sound doesn't change. I've reset the unit, unplugged the battery negative, upgraded the firmware, but no change. I expect I have a hardware problem, but thought I'd ask if you all had seen this issue before.
Mine is a 4200nex. For now, I've limited juice to the front speakers in the speaker control menu to fake rear fader. At least I can do that as a workaround.

Why would I need to install the bluetooth microphone if I'm using the idatalink maestro module that retains my steering wheel controls? My Tacoma has that feature in the steering wheel controls. Jeffrey Love because the steering wheel controls do not connect to the factory mic. The iDatalink can't see the mic so you have to use the Pioneer mic.

GoproZack they are the exact same radio. Pioneer's new format will not be ready until summer sometime. So in the meantime this is there solution.

Yeah I would not be taking the factory radio out. If you do you will probably have to relocate the factory radio somewhere in the car.

Albert Hernandez the main difference is the 4200 has the Auto " ok" screen go away after 7 seconds, full iDatalink interfacing, auto switching for CarPlay and Android Auto. It also has full power off

Did you flash the RR's firmware on it? There should have been a link to the wire instructions for your car.
