Holy shit. $500 a month for a very safe sedan that is not considered a sports car by any insurance companies is fucking absolutely insane. Imagine if you got a ZL1 or a corvette or a hellcat or any high dollar sports car, you might actually be uninsurable if you have to pay 500 for a 3 series family sedan(on paper). That’s insane. Considering the price for this it would be like $1500 for something like that if all things are equal, that is a mortgage payment on car insurance. Lol. You should get a quote on a sports car just to see what they say, it might be so out of bounds they won’t even offer you coverage. What did you do?!?! My first quote I got from State Farm for my m340 back in December was almost $630 a month, I have progressive and I only pay $500 and I’m still not 25 yet so I know it’ll go down when I’m 25 as well. I had tickets multiple times it wasn’t for the lawyer. I would have so many points, I’ve learned my lesson speeding years ago. Now I try to keep contain myself but it’s hard in this car LOL… I don’t know how people pay for insurance on Mustangs and hellcats and stuff like that. It would probably be close to 1500 easily or I would not be insured like you said.

So if I’m doing the math right, you’re spending roughly half your income on a depreciating asset. It may be cool to have this car at 22, but it’s not cool entering your 30’s in a poor financial position when life hits you in the face with a house, wife, and kids. Sell the car, work on developing a higher income skill, and buy the car back when you can comfortably afford it. 👍🏼

I've honestly been able to "afford" one of these for a little while now but I always felt like it wasn't the right financial decision even though I do make a pretty considerable income, but lately I've been noticing myself becoming less motivated so I think it's finally time to pull the trigger on a nice car. I have 20k, but 2024 @65k is steep for me. I found a 2021 m340i @46k w/ 18.5k miles. I think that’s a green light for me. I want to tune/mod car heavy. s/o to you bro! You work hard 🤷🏿♂️ , You buy what you want 💯! sn I pay a lot for insurance too smh. We got about the same driving record, but replace speeding tickets w/ accidents. I pay $400 for a 2012 Honda civic here in NC smh. I’d do $490 for a m340i any day. I hope mine is around $700-800 for both. Anyways I want to see more.

Look gents, being able to make a monthly payment != being able to afford it. You don’t wanna be pulling your $45k bimmer into your apartment complex because you can’t afford to save for a house. I get it, I’m a dude and into cars but they don’t make you cool or good with the ladies. At the end of the day it’s just a car, and in 10 years you’ll realize there are more important things. Not saying if OP can or can’t afford this - if he’s pulling in $200k then sure you can take the hit if you want to prioritize spending fun money on a luxury car. But when you find yourself sacrificing something critical (maxing retirement savings, paying off debt, investing in your future self, etc) for a car is exactly how you get in the debt trap living paycheck to paycheck. Ask yourself - would you rather be 22 with a BMW or 35 with $1m (as an arbitrary #) saved and then get the BMW? If you can do both - great buy the car. If you can’t - then IMO you have no business buying such a toy.

I wouldn’t have ever bought this car if I had to live pay check to pay check. I love the car so much it’s perfect for what I needed , I’m able to save so much compared to my old 335i !! I have everything I need in my life and I’m so humble and thankful. Moving to whole sales has put me at salary now so I’m bringing in so much more now

My wife and I are 30 and pulled in $450k last year, while our 2 cars combined are worth $25k and have been paid off for years. Could we buy an M4 comp? Sure..but as much as I want one I could personally never fathom having so much $ tied up in a depreciating asset. To be honest I’d much rather spend on experiences (vacations) or a second home.

I drive truck for 8-10k $ per month and run real estate business buying properties and resell 1-2times a year… I love cars but 40k is crazy money for me. I got my e93 for 10k with 43k miles and pushing 450hp which is about 1 month of work for me but still a lot

To me it sounds like a 330I M sport is your best bet, still looks, handles, has the same interior as my m340i almost, but I love my m340i man , I’ve driven both and the m340i is stiffer but lower too, it’s all up to you 👌🏻👌🏻

You have to have at least some credit to your name , and your age is a big issue too, me personally I would get a co-signer if you want the car now, I would wait and build your credit for the next 1-2 years and then try to apply, you will have more money to put down as well and way more knowledge too man🔥🫶🏻but nothing isn’t impossible if others can do it

Hell yeah bro I respect the grind a lot. I'm also around your age (21) and I'm bouta test drive one of these this week and see if I like it. I've honestly been able to "afford" one of these for a little while now but I always felt like it wasn't the right financial decision even though I do make a pretty considerable income, but lately I've been noticing myself becoming less motivated so I think it's finally time to pull the trigger on a nice car. What you said is absolutely true about keeping yourself motivated to keep grinding (as well as keeping yourself accountable with these monthly payments), and it sounds like you're gonna do great.

I have 20k, but 2024 @65k is steep for me. I found a 2021 m340i @46k w/ 18.5k miles. I think that’s a green light for me. I want to tune/mod car heavy. s/o to you bro! You work hard 🤷🏿♂️ , You buy what you want 💯! sn I pay a lot for insurance too smh. We got about the same driving record, but replace speeding tickets w/ accidents. I pay $400 for a 2012 Honda civic here in NC smh. I’d do $490 for a m340i any day. I hope mine is around $700-800 for both. Anyways I want to see more.

Look gents, being able to make a monthly payment != being able to afford it. You don’t wanna be pulling your $45k bimmer into your apartment complex because you can’t afford to save for a house. I get it, I’m a dude and into cars but they don’t make you cool or good with the ladies. At the end of the day it’s just a car, and in 10 years you’ll realize there are more important things.
Not saying if OP can or can’t afford this - if he’s pulling in $200k then sure you can take the hit if you want to prioritize spending fun money on a luxury car. But when you find yourself sacrificing something critical (maxing retirement savings, paying off debt, investing in your future self, etc) for a car is exactly how you get in the debt trap living paycheck to paycheck.
Ask yourself - would you rather be 22 with a BMW or 35 with $1m (as an arbitrary #) saved and then get the BMW? If you can do both - great buy the car. If you can’t - then IMO you have no business buying such a toy.

I wouldn’t have ever bought this car if I had to live pay check to pay check. I love the car so much it’s perfect for what I needed , I’m able to save so much compared to my old 335i !! I have everything I need in my life and I’m so humble and thankful. Moving to whole sales has put me at salary now so I’m bringing in so much more now

My wife and I are 30 and pulled in $450k last year, while our 2 cars combined are worth $25k and have been paid off for years. Could we buy an M4 comp? Sure..but as much as I want one I could personally never fathom having so much $ tied up in a depreciating asset. To be honest I’d much rather spend on experiences (vacations) or a second home.

I am deciding between 18 or 19 wheels, 19 look good but firmer ride and higher risk of puncture since less cushioning. It’s extremely reliable and I beat the crap out of this car I’ll be straight up, I don’t drive it easy after it warms up 😅🫣I like to have fun

You have to have at least some credit to your name , and your age is a big issue too, me personally I would get a co-signer if you want the car now, I would wait and build your credit for the next 1-2 years and then try to apply, you will have more money to put down as well and way more knowledge too man🔥🫶🏻but nothing isn’t impossible if others can do it
