    The fire OP was talking about was the Hamlet Chicken Processing Fire in 1991. 25 people died, and lots more were injured. It was horrific, and the owner received a 20 year sentence.

    I have one thing that really makes me doubt the veracity of this story. OP says she spent two weeks in Australia. However, she spelled the city of Sydney as Sidney. Anyone spending two weeks in a huge city the size of Sydney would have seen the name spelled out multiple times (e.g., boarding pass, passport, maps, geographic locations, etc.). Maybe I'm just being sensitive, but damn...it's spelled Sydney.

    I always thought “electrocuted” means death, otherwise it’s shocked.

    • @goldengryphon
      @goldengryphon 3 года назад +1

      It's like 'drowned'. You can be drowned or electrocuted and survive. The first gets water into your lungs and strong possibilities of lung-related illness because of stress. The second means that you were well-grounded and can cause a multitude of odd side effects. You can be shocked, but that's generally around the level of household current. I've been shocked but not electrocuted.
      Drawing and quartering are also technically survivable, but not for long.

      It does wake you up!
      SO was Navy and when we were up in Groton, CT, one of the shipmates actually grabbed a live wire by accident, then growled down that "I think I've been shocked." When asked if he was sure, he grabbed the thing again. "Yeah. I've been shocked, again." He got a few days off for being dangerously stupid in a very careful environment.
