👋 ABOUT TRENT 👋
After a successful business career where I've started and sold a number of companies, I've decided to get out from behind my computer to pursue a lifelong passion and start career 2.0 as a professional pilot. In just 13 months, I went from being a private pilot with just 100 hours, to receiving a Conditional Job Offer from the largest regional airline in the US (jet training class starts Feb 5, 2025) During the year that it took my to go from newly minted CFI to a CFI with 1500 hours, I was able to earn just over $160,000! What do you struggle with the most? Let me know below as I'm currently drafting up new video ideas.
Finances. I'm 25 making $51k and no option to move home, I own an old car etc, - not much room to reduce. I'd love to be debt free but I've taken almost a year to save for my PPL and haven't even started training yet. Just need a honest and harsh reality check/review that loans are going to have to happen if I want to start training before 30. But I'm so scared of these high interest private loans, I just wonder how to approach it. Top plan is to out of pocket part 61 PPL then step back and review my options to move forward.
Thank you Mr Dyrsmid for the information you're putting out there for us. As for me I am 44 years old and am into in getting my pilots license and maybe into the airlines. I understand it's going to be a journey and you are 💯% correct about relocating to a state with good weather to fly constantly because I reside in Albany NY and I have not yet did a discovery flight due to bad weather and strong winds and please mind you this was my third week where my discovery flight was cancelled. I will though get my medical, get an online ground school, take my written, instrument and commercial pilot written exams before I start flight school. Once again thank you so much.
@@TheMeekAreLoved144 you are very welcome. Thank you so much for watching my videos and taking a moment to share your experience. I wish you all the very best on the journey ahead of you!

Found a highly rated flight school in a city near me. They said zero to CFII will be 45k-60k max. They have DPE & multi engine aircraft. Is this one a no-brainer?
do you know the name by chance? Am looking for a flight school.
@@Mountain_Flyer it sounds like that’s a very good possibility. I would be sure to hang out in the parking lot for an afternoon and talk to some of the students that are coming and going out of the building to get their perspective.
Can you kindly provide the name? I’m in the similar situation
@ I no longer recommend any flight schools. We have something MUCH better! Https://flywithtrent.com/cfi-locator/
Hey Trent, what school did you actually attend or what airport? And I’m assuming since you are starting at Delta that you are not taking any students?
@@jonathonkersting9043 the school that I attended is out in Ohio and they don’t want me mentioning their name on social media because every time I do their phone blows up. They already have a huge waiting list and they really don’t like training private pilots. They specialize in CFI ratings.
With that said, I’m now a part of a small group of people building a nationwide network of independence CFII’s that are going to offer accelerated flight training. If you would like to get paired with a CFI, shoot me an email. Trent@flywithtrent.com
As for me, i’m not employed by Delta. I’m off to a regional that has a base here in Boise. My training class was supposed to start on February 17 but it got pushed back two months because the TSA was late with my approval so if you are looking for a CFI in Boise, I can help you.
Wow never been this early to anything lol good timing im thinking about doing my PPL once the weather gets better MI based.
Hey Ryan, as someone who took this approach a while ago I would highly recommend just starting!
If your financials are in a spot where you’re ready to go then go. There’s enough good weather out there to fly multiple times a week if you’re committed enough. It might take putting some things on the back burner, but it’s doable.
@petey33x yeah absolutely i definitely have the money to get the PPL out of the way for sure just in MI and didn't wanna do it during the winter for the start. Yeah I definitely want to do the summer because we always get good weather to flying just the December and January months are ehh

At the 17th minute where you break down the cost of flight training, it seems like it does indeed cost almost 100 thousand dollars unlike what you said at the beginning of the video or am I missing something?
@@ErkinGuvenXAU you are taking the high end of the estimates. It can be done for much less than that. The goal of this video is to provide a high-level snapshot of what is required. I have other videos on my channel that go into a deeper level of detail on the costs.
@trent_dyrsmid thank you for all the valuable content 👏
Great vid. Here waiting for the list of flight controls like yu promised
@@mubzmubz3948 the link is down in the description in the section called “links mentioned”
Thanks Trent for the video! Are you still training students in Boise?
@@slipandskid my training class with Skywest is supposed to start next week, but the TSA is waaaaay behind and has not yet approved my training application and that could result in a delay to my Skywest training class. If that happens, I may be accepting more students. All depends on how much my training class gets delayed. I expect to have clarity on that sometime next week and will be announcing the details on the channel.
Great.

Not to be negative but only 5% of people trying to get a Private Pilot Certificate completes the requirements. If you complete everything you still have that 1,500 hours you must have for any airlines to consider your application. Then, you are competing against military pilots with 10,000 hours of flight time. I took ground school and a few flying lessons and realized this was too much with little to no reward particularly in trying to get an airline job. And the cost was prohibitive. Not to mention the time and effort you have to put into this. Good luck to anyone who tries.
Where did you pull that 5% statistic from?
@@surfside16 trying to get through life with such a negative attitude must be incredibly challenging.
