In this video, I'll be talking about Support Engineers. What are their roles and how are they different from Developers.
I'll be also discussing how does this role shape up for you? What is the work that you will have to do and what is the growth possible in this role? What are the different positions you would be given and much more!

Support has 5 types: L0, L1, L2, AVM, L3,
L0 = Functional support over voice.
L1 = Technical support over voice.
L2 = Short term technical resolution / AVM = Long term technical resolution for the next release
L3 = Urgent technical resolution.
L2 will either fix the issue themselves, or they will sink it to AVM or they will push it to L3, as per priority associated with the issue.
Coding happens in L2, AVM, and L3.
Engineering graduates get hired in service-based companies for L1, L2, and AVM.
AVM is the most development-like.
L1 is the most support-like.
Freshers never get the opportunity to work as an L3 support engineer, unless their manager is ill or lazy or resigning.
I got to work in l3 support java as fresher but failing miserably 😢
This is a very narrow view of what a support engineer learns and how they grow in the organization. Support engineer is a customer facing, thus these roles are every green and never dies off. Whereas a developer may have to keep on developing their skills all life else they will become obsolete and fade off. Support Engineers may also have to upgrade their tech skills but owing to their experience in managing stakeholders, they stand a chance to excel in any organization. A person from Tech support role can also grow into Pre-sales consultant, Requirement gathering, PM,. Scrum master, Business analyst, Team Manager, Business development Manager, Escalation Engineer, Dev ops engineer and many such roles. I can tell you, most people who has the designation as Software developer/engineer are not actually coding something from scratch. They use cut and paste of old projects to create a new program or use external resources. Also some of them may be writing codes on legacy software. Thus Support role is not bad and I suggest people who are in Support role, take pride in their job and excel in their line.

It's good to start from startups rather than MNC if your goal is to become good developers. At a starting you may get low Pay but after that you got 💯% increment.
But startups will treat employee like a dog. They don t even show gratitude , no salary.

@@rockybakes1155 Take up one language and one framework which is used to develop website, example java and springboot along with hibernate , python and flask Or django.. And then apply to companies and prove your skills in interview . This is the process I followed you can do some research online and try the same. Thanks

In TCS if you are stuck in a support project then you are doomed for atleast 2 or 3 years. Be very careful.

@@boombot9615 very little. Support projects run like forever unlike testing and development projects. Hence if dependency is there then very little chance. Only if you mess up your work drastically and management thinks you are unfit for project then only it may happen. Otherwise ask him to discuss with supervisor the course of actions which might take 6 months to 1 year.

@@sanketpatwari3323 if you get development project and you work there for 2 or 3 years then it will open opportunities for you in other big companies also, like EY, KPMG, Deloitte etc. But for that you have to do rigorous training and practice. Else if you fail to work in development role then you will be put to manual testing or support role where you will get little scope of learning and u might get stuck with tcs forever. So now you have to decide as per your own requirement.

i worked in 3.9 years in development and currently from last 3 months in production support. What i found development is always greater than support in terms of salary,work life balance.thats why people crave for it. Be ready to sacrifice your holidays, parties nd work life balance if you are in support project

Though I am working in IT since 10 years, but i observed most of the people begin from support profiles only,,, because any company has limited developers.

companies of joining) after that it's all worthless.Just keep learning don't wait for college to start and keep belief in yourself.
Mostly companies ask for degree you need to have it anyhow, apart that you can prepare for other learning stuffs
