I am a little shocked that the 6950 XT didn't handle the ray tracing a little better, but the other cards cost a fraction of the 3080 Ti and 6950 XT. Ray tracing is really one of the last barriers AMD needs to cross in order to really give Nvidia a run for their money.
Was the ghosting on the AMD graphics cards maybe because of that weird super sampling option you had enabled? It was instead of the DLSS 3, there was some TAA thing running at performance mode
Until proper RTX capable cards are affordable (40 series and beyond) I sincerely don't give a fuck about ray tracing. It'll absolutely be the future of graphics rendering, but for now, it's insanely demanding and impractical on every normal consumer card , and almost never worth trading a smoother gameplay experience. I have had good ray tracing experiences in very few games, namely Control, & Doom Eternal, both of which use it sparingly.
Afterburner/Rivatuner works fine for an overlay in Portal RTX. Also, DLSS 3 is just an advertising name for Deep Learning Super Sampling (which is currently at version 2.5) + Frame Generation+ Reflex Low Latency. If you don't have a 40 series card it just doesn't let you use frame generation.

Also just wanna point out that this entire vid felt like a paid advertisement for Nvidia, so here are some key points as to why that company isn't good: 1. They refused to allow open source drivers for ages which means Linux support is non-existent even now 2. The only reason they went opensource was because their security was so lax that a few butthurt script-kiddies were able to jack their insider information and blackmail them into going opensource 3. They gaslit 4090 early access users (think tech tubers) over the whole melting power cables thing and tried to hush it all up until it went viral, Radeon just straight up said they knew it was going to be an issue and that's why their not using cost cutting measures on their cables connections

@@claudio7010 I'm yet to see one actual AAA (non-gimmick) game do what you've just said... The majority of them are just using ray tracing as a gimmick to throw out "realistic" lens flares or nothing more than tech demos of what "the future could hold". The difference tho with tessellation is that GPUs didn't suddenly become massive space heaters that caught on fire the moment the tech started being introduced and you certainly didn't have a situation where it was more or less being used as an excuse push GPUs into early-obsolescence for minimal overall gains to the user base. Portal RTX is really optimized for Nvidia cards... even with my Asus RTX 2060 and my AMD Phenom II X6 1090T it runs with > 30 fps all the time. So to me it looks like the game recognizes: "You are having a AMD graphics card? F*** off!" 😛
What a config, a Phenom II with an 2060, srsly get a CPU upgrade, even the cheapest Zen 2 for ~70$ is miles ahead of that old bulldozer CPU.
its a miracle portal is even running on your system
Why in the world are you pairing a 2060 with a 14 year old CPU?!? Your processor is probably easily outpaced by a Chromebook at this point!
AMD Phenom II X6 1090T? Wow! I thought I was running an old CPU when I still use 3570k (around year 2012). According to userbenchmark, even 3570k is 20-50% faster CPU and I've paired it with 1060 with 3 GB VRAM so we are talking about pretty cheap hardware here.
I'm not sure, but i think performance might have been impacted by you leaving "super-resolution" on, despite no downscaling method working, might get some 4 or more fps from that.
And he left motion blur on (was off on the nvidia card) which explains the "smearing".
I’ve always used FRAPS. I didn’t even realised it had not been updated in a decade until recently. Still works though.
Looks great, and at 1440 or HD you can look at every rendered picture very closely :)
Next RTX overhaul should be with CSGO, this game gets way too many FPS in benchmarks these days. Although I d0ont know what Rays are there to trace on Dust II :)
Alot of source games have prebaked raytaced lighting
Putting RT into a competitive game is just... Pointless.
Nobody will play CSGO with RT on, it's an online shooter and people want the highest fps to match their monitor refresh rate then they start increasing fidelity/resolution.
You think you have a high end card until you try good ol’ path tracing in Portal.
Dawid didn't ragequit the 6600.. .He had to rayquit.. :D
Jensen's dream to completely replace the traditional rasterization with ray tracing has yet to come true
You can set DLSS 3.0 to "custom" and that lets you set the type of DLSS to NIS, which should work on AMD.

Yeah I was really excited to use my RX6600 on something that actually had Ray tracing, but I launch up the game and it just doesn't work, I only got it working if I had the resolution set to below 480p, and even then the Ray Tracing was still broken
@@nesyboi9421 Don't be mad at AMD for that, I am 99% sure that Nvidia made this run awful on AMD GPUs on porpose. Check your power usage with Portal RTX and other titles that utilize RT. You'll probably see lower power usage on Portal RTX

Weird that DLSS 3 actually seemed to work on a non-4000 series card.
I think it is falling back to DLSS 2.0 but just says 3.0 because it is an Nvidia Card, that sad I did hear that they may be allowing DLSS 3.0 to work on certain RTX 30 Cards.
So my question is, does DLSS 3.0 Still work on RTX 20?? Dawid should try this.
DLSS3 is just a superset of DLSS2.
It absolutely doesn't use frame generation on Ampere
What Alfa Proto said. DLSS 3.x is: DLSS 2.x + Reflex + Frame Generation (option only available on 40 series)

Was the ghosting on the AMD graphics cards maybe because of that weird super sampling option you had enabled? It was instead of the DLSS 3, there was some TAA thing running at performance mode
It is technically same for Nvidia.
Except part that AMD runs at 1-5 FPS. So it just lingers longer so you can notice it.

I wonder why Ray tracing hasn't caught on? It's almost as if overpriced GPUs which struggle to get 60FPS at 1080p and literally catch on fire (I'm specifically looking at you Nvidia) for gimmicky visuals that are primarily used for obnoxious lens flares aren't all that appealing when I can just not have Ray tracing and game at 4K with a frame-rate to make console players shit bricks.
Also just wanna point out that this entire vid felt like a paid advertisement for Nvidia, so here are some key points as to why that company isn't good:
1. They refused to allow open source drivers for ages which means Linux support is non-existent even now
2. The only reason they went opensource was because their security was so lax that a few butthurt script-kiddies were able to jack their insider information and blackmail them into going opensource
3. They gaslit 4090 early access users (think tech tubers) over the whole melting power cables thing and tried to hush it all up until it went viral, Radeon just straight up said they knew it was going to be an issue and that's why their not using cost cutting measures on their cables connections
meanwhile fortnite with nanite and lumen, both of which are much more interesting techs put on a much more modern game, runs at 60fps on a xbox series s which is basically a zen 2 ryzen with a gpu that's much slower than any of the ones tested here
just wanted to say that ray tracing is not just for the reflections, it's for the whole global illumination, and it won't necessarily make the game look better but give the devs an easier time, instead of having to use rasterization. But the tech just isn't there yet. Kind of like when tessellation was seen as something useless and gimmicky. And this game was clearly made just for nvidia gpus, intentionally throttling anything else
We live in the day where console own the market, I don't think we're getting a new PS6 or xbox anytime soon so your GPUs aren't going to be good for anything accept "enhancements" and tech demos for a while.
@@banks3388 as I said, the tech just isn't there yet. The "rtx on" bullshit that's going on right now should not be a thing. The gpus aren't capable of real time ray tracing without heavy denoising and performance loss. Don't get me wrong, it's still amazing, but I am not spending 1000+ euros for a sub60fps 1440p experience. In my opinion, ray tracing will eventually just be an easier implementation of a global illumination
