      @ABaumstumpf 2 года назад +11

      "Remix" is the first Beta-release of a full mod-plugin that you can just throw into many of the older games and completely replace the rendering-path.
      Right now it trashes Radeon-cards cause it uses physical based textures for raytracing - and AMD is already using the texture-units for the ray calculations. Because of this they can NOT do textures and rays at the same time - hence any engine that uses textures to influence the raytracing will tank horribly and Radeon.

    This "game" is purposely not utilizing AMD Ray Accelerators, I'm 99% sure. Power usage is way too low on my AMD GPU (6950 XT Red Devil). Cyberpunk w/ RT ~320 Watts. Portal RTX: ~260 Watts, despite 99% usage in both titles. My GPU can run RT in Cyberpunk just fine (1080p with FSR Quality is actually playable with over 60 FPS), same for Quake 2 RTX, which runs really good at 1080p native. Every title that utilizes RT pushes my GPU to 320 Watts, just not Portal RTX, despite being RT only, wonder why....

    • @Axeiaa
      @Axeiaa 2 года назад +27

      Very likely as these types of NVIDIA experiments usually only serve one purpose - to make their cards look good. Usually achieved by making the competition look bad, by either doing useless things, specifically targeting features they know the competition is bad at, or kneecapping performance on the 'competitors' platform by doing things the most inefficient way - or a combination of these. From the top of my head.
      NVIDIA bought PhysX and basically made it useless so PhysX games ran great on NVIDIA hardware and NVIDIA only. People discovered ways around it which NVIDIA initially had claimed weren't possible which they then proceeded to patch out.
      Then there was Crysis tessellating areas under the ground that you couldn't even see and some objects to stupid amounts crippling performance - even on NVIDIA but more so on AMD cards so NVIDIA looked better on paper
      Then there was The Witcher 3 hairworks where something that added very little visually absolutely destroyed performance once again. More so on AMDs side so than NVIDIAs so it was terrible for everyone but in particular for those with an AMD card. Slowly got remedied by patches and driver versions.
      Now they're releasing an onslaught of old games adding raytracing using NVIDIAs black magic which hampers performance on AMD more than it needs to do to make NVIDIAs own products look good.
      If they spend as much as time and resources on actually improving their products as they do on trying to make the competition look worse than it is then perhaps there wouldn't be a need for it in the first place. They already got superior ray tracing support - just be happy with that. Don't try to stack the deck in your favor when you already got a winning hand.

It's almost as if overpriced GPUs which struggle to get 60FPS at 1080p and literally catch on fire (I'm specifically looking at you Nvidia) for gimmicky visuals that are primarily used for obnoxious lens flares aren't all that appealing when I can just not have Ray tracing and game at 4K with a frame-rate to make console players shit bricks.
    Also just wanna point out that this entire vid felt like a paid advertisement for Nvidia, so here are some key points as to why that company isn't good:
    1. They refused to allow open source drivers for ages which means Linux support is non-existent even now
    2. The only reason they went opensource was because their security was so lax that a few butthurt script-kiddies were able to jack their insider information and blackmail them into going opensource
    3. They gaslit 4090 early access users (think tech tubers) over the whole melting power cables thing and tried to hush it all up until it went viral, Radeon just straight up said they knew it was going to be an issue and that's why their not using cost cutting measures on their cables connections

      @banks3388 2 года назад +1

      @@claudio7010 I'm yet to see one actual AAA (non-gimmick) game do what you've just said...
      The majority of them are just using ray tracing as a gimmick to throw out "realistic" lens flares or nothing more than tech demos of what "the future could hold". The difference tho with tessellation is that GPUs didn't suddenly become massive space heaters that caught on fire the moment the tech started being introduced and you certainly didn't have a situation where it was more or less being used as an excuse push GPUs into early-obsolescence for minimal overall gains to the user base. We live in the day where console own the market, I don't think we're getting a new PS6 or xbox anytime soon so your GPUs aren't going to be good for anything accept "enhancements" and tech demos for a while.

      You can probably get it running at 60fps by changing the developer settings. The default settings crush anything below the 4000 series.

    Crapping on cards known to be behind on ray tracing is kind of like making fun of a quadriplegic for having a terrible high jump. I have a 3080 in my rig and I'm no fanboy of any gpu brand. I don't get the point of this video. Still love your channel. Thanks for the content.

    DLSS 3.0 is just the name of the latest version of "helper" from nvidia. If it detects it has frame generation hardware available, it will use those, otherwise it will just fallback to whatever is available to it. It does include every other DLSS tech that has come before it.

    Yeah this the reason I went for a 4090 rather than waiting for the 7900 XTX, the 7900 is a BEAST and for the price definitely a better card, but I LOVE ray tracing so I went 4090.

    6700XT guy here. I dropped all the NVIDIA settings / ray count down, lowest 16:9 res,and I turned off some advanced textures thing (I can tell Dawid didn't touch this setting because the gameplay actually looks good lmao), and I managed to get 40-ish fps.
    I am proud to say I managed to 100% the game.

      1080p with DLSS Balanced or Performance mode, reduce the amount of light bounces from 4 down to 2, some other small optimisation tweaks like that, you'll have playable frame rates
