Wow! I grew up in Roscommon in the 40's. I've been writing for 50 years and doing radio for 37 and this song and singer brings goose bumps. Her other songs are just as good and I can't stop playing them.

what a song never heard of it till last night till me da asked me to learn the words and sing it for him and I spent all night learning the words and rythem and I know it by heart now love it...he said it takes him bk to his youth 65yrs ago and I take that journey with him when I sing this song...

Every thing in this song is so true. My next door neighbours were C of I and my longest memory of being in that house in Camp West Kerry was to see the bacon hanging from crooks in the ceiling. We killed a pig too but it was salted and kept in a barrel. Ann Marie's songs bring back so many happy memories of being born and raised in West Kerry.
