- I have always been fascinated by Brutalist architecture and 20th Century concrete buildings and other structures which once seemed very futuristic. This short compilation of images shows some of the most striking Spomeniks.

Fascinating and strangely beautiful.
I see them as simulacra of Cern. They reveal truth in some dimension. Thank you for posting this.
Life was easy and fun in the good old Yugoslavia... 1980 to 1992 was the best times of my life.
Thank goodness you appreciate these. I though it was just me and Jonathan Meades. What a club that would be !
I'd actually really like to make a full-blown documentary about them.
@@LegaliseFreedom1 Please do. By the way your recent monologues are particularly valuable right now. I would welcome more of those too, not just on the Corona Takeover. Many thanks for your hard work. MM.
@@modelmeltdown359 Thanks. And yes, sooner rather than later the Corona Takeover must be transcended.
@@LegaliseFreedom1 At the risk of taking up your time and opening up an endless topic I'd just like to say that this is the only time I have commented on a film on RUclips. That is because your channel is the most eloquent and reasoned on the web. Consequently it has become not only a shelter in a storm but a place from which to reflect upon that storm. I feel this is only the beginning of a long haul from which none of the many sides will "win" but total, dare I say transformation, will be the only result.
I am deeply grateful for all your work over the many years. MM.
@@modelmeltdown359 Thank you so much. Reflections like yours are what keep me alive. I loved your tank build by the way! I used to build military models when I was a kid.
Otherworldly. Mars, Europa, Titan, the Moon.
It makes me sad that alot of these beautiful structures are being left to deteriorate.
Agreed.
They somehow Mirror the Fragmented Karst Limestone Geology of this Slavic region... ?
Beautiful and eerie sculptures. They look like all that will be left after civilization collapses. Future generations will come across them and wonder “but what do they all mean??”
They represen mostly victims of a genocide. I think that graves of dead people are not a place to experiment with this demented art style!
Some of these are featured in the excellent film Last and First Men directed by Jóhann Jóhannsson
Thanks for the tip! I shall check it out. If this is based on Olaf Stapledon that will be amazing...
Wow. This is beautiful. @ 5:00 Sayyy...who stole Sauron's eye?
They strike me as having far more feeling and depth than anything Damien Hirst or Henry Moore ever produced..........Or for that matter 'The Angel of the North' eejit Gorman.
The church on 08:43 was built just recently
Thanks for the info. Was not aware of that. Do you know what it is called or where it is?
one day ww3 will happen around this spectacular monument, and on that day, all the tribute monument will witness it, i dont know how to describe it in english, i hope you all get the point, peace one love ❤️
they seem cold and oppressive
Exactly what WW2 was, which these monuments are about, victims of the war.
Aren’t these monuments from the. cold war era?
