I have a 5' long 100 gallon that I had many Corydoras in. Lots of less common species. Some sort of plague took them out one by one over a few years. Never figured out exactly what was wrong but I am down to just a few left now. I would recommend anyone doing a Corydoras focused tank to give them places to hide but nothing that you can't see under. I have some pieces of hornwood covered in Anubias that they used to gather under and I think maybe some died under it where I couldn't see them and maybe set off a chain reaction. Also a lot of the rarer species are very attractive but mostly wild caught and super shy. I ended up spending a lot of money for fish I rarely saw and if they were out and I moved they would get spooked and go hide. Don't really have any one favorite species but CW010 Gold Laser are really nice.
I wanted to see how the white sand would affect the cory's overall color. Most Corydoras like to blend in with whatever sand they are on, and my corys on white sand are much lighter than my corys on black sand. Thanks for watching!
I just crossed your channel. So im a new sub. 👍. Great video. I really love all Cory's. I dont have any black Cory's and really want some. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for subscribing! I have wanted some black corys as well, but all my tanks have black sand and I figured I wouldn't be able to see them. But now that I have white sand I definitely want to get some. The white sand really lighted up the color of my corys, but I think the black corys would remain very dark.
Hi Charles, Sterbai are my favorite Corys. Though, I do have a soft spot for Peppered and Juli Corys. Do you have any experience with these Corys? If so, what advice would you share with novice aquascapers looking to incorporate them in their aquariums?
Hello there! I have 9 Sterbai in my community aquarium. Sterbai prefer slightly warmer temps than most corys. This mixed cory tank has Peppered and Julii corys. I suggest keeping them in groups of at least 5, the more the better if your tank has room. They are great tank mates to other peaceful fish in a community tank. Hope that helps!
I found that my corys really really love leaf litter to dig around in and look for copepods. I throw in dry oak leaves from my garden once a week and they love it. Not a clean look like this but its a fun behaviour to watch :)
So pretty!! I have some cute corys too. Do you know if they can bear a small quantity of salt in the aquarium for a couple of days? I heard that they are more sensitive to it, but I need to do a salt treatment for my other fish.
Well, here is a roundabout answer. I have not used salt as a medication in my tanks, but here is what I know. Corys are scaleless, so when I had an ich show up on some of my cardinals, I used the medicine at half strength because of the corys, and my Pandas were fine. But different corys have different hardiness and sensitivities, for many reasons...if they are captive breed or are wild caught etc. Captive breed cories are most likely more adaptable and tolerant of changes in the water parameters, and might be able to withstand a low-dosage of salt medication. So that is really a non-answer...there is so little documented information I think it might be a case by case issue. Everyone seems to have a different opinion. Are you able to remove the corys for a few days into temp holding "bucket" (if you have an extra filter and heater)? Best of luck with your fish, you seem to care about them a great deal!
Beautiful build ❤ all my tanks are pretty much planted jungles and my cories love it. I currently have orange venezuelan and long fin albino cories. My wish list cory is the eques. Have you ever tried feeding the tubifex worms from Aquarium Co-Op? My cories go nuts for these and out compete the rest of the community tank for them!
Thank you. I also have orange venezuelans (love them) and just yesterday I added to my little albino school, I haven't seen the long-finned version in person but they look beautiful. I have to try feeding the tubifex worms to my corys, not sure why I hadn't thought of that... thanks for the tip! Cory from Co-Op is great.
My favorite is the fairy cory, but adolfis are a very close second. I've kept 9 different species. 8 species in my 55g and 18 pygmy corys in my 15g fluval flex
Fairy corys are so cool with their dot pattern. I also like adolfoi, I have a school of duplicareus which are pretty similar. They will be in the next long video I post.
@@FishRfun I have Albertini Corydoras on my wish list. They had a group at my LFS, but they were expensive and there was no way to sex them yet, and only the males develop the cool pattern, so I just had to pass. One day.
The build takes a fews hours, but filming it slows down the process a bit. I enjoy the whole experience of planning out a tank, searching for the right plants and hardscape, and deciding what fish to include. Which leads to multiple tanks! Thanks for watching.
In my larger tanks I keep groups of otos, but they need a good deal of algae and biofilm to eat. In this tank, with the very low light levels I didn't think a group would have enough algae to eat. If he does okay, I might add one more so he has a buddy. Otos can be hard to keep. I have had some for ages, but some have died. They can have a very hard journey from the wild, to a middleman, to a fish store with little or nothing to eat and get very scrawny and sickly before you buy them. Thanks for watching!
@FishLoft actually yeah I've heard they don't ship well. I just don't know why mine died off. I fed algae wafers for my lemon longfin bristlenose pleco, repashy soilent green so I can leave it in overnight, but granted the only algae in my 55g was green spot algae on my anubias, but that's because of poor plant placement mostly
Let me know what your favorite Cory is...please consider subscribing, thanks!
How come I've never come across this channel as much as I'm into aquariums. You just got a new sub
Thank you! I just started this channel up about 3 weeks ago.
@FishLoft congratulations! Wow it took me like 3 months to get to 350 subs. Best of luck to you
@@FishRfun You just got one more sub!
@FishLoft thanks so much
Just found your channel. Great content. And beautiful Corys!
Thank you! Corys are one of my favorite fish.
This is beautiful! I love all the green, so vibrant…I would go snorkeling in this tank 🎉
LOL.... so funny. I have a little snorkeler that I float around my aquariums sometimes. Thanks for watching!
Love the white sand! My favorite so far. Congrats!
Thank you! It was fun to experiment with white sand for the first time. All my other tanks have black sand. Thanks for watching!

I never would have thought to have a bag when adding the water to make sure the sand isn’t disturbed
Try it, it really helps! Thanks for watching!
New subscriber here... Awesome video.
Thanks for joining! I assume you are addicted to fishkeeping as well, let me know...
I really like how you show us how to build tanks for different types of fish.
It so important to provide the right environment that your fish prefer. Thanks for watching!
Nice tank build. The white sand was a good choice.

I bet they love that! They are one of my favorite fish to watch because of their funny antics and puppy dog behaviors. What type of corys do you keep?
@ venezuelan and paleatus :)

@FishLoft Thank you so much for your answer. Sadly, I don't have an extra tank or devices so I might just try a little dose and see how it goes.

@FishLoft You're welcome! I think you will really enjoy the feeding frenzy! Once they figured out they were there, they gobbled them up.
I keep venezuelan corydoras in a heavily planted tank with various fish and red cherry shrimp

@FishLoft just looked up the albertini and I love it. It's got great patterns and has that iridescent blue shimmer like salt and pepper corys get
I like panda Cory's I have 6 of them
Panda's are great, I like their pattern and I like they stay relatively small for a corydoras. Thanks for watching!
How long does it take you to do a tank build?
The build takes a fews hours, but filming it slows down the process a bit. I enjoy the whole experience of planning out a tank, searching for the right plants and hardscape, and deciding what fish to include. Which leads to multiple tanks! Thanks for watching.
Why just 1 otocinclus? I thought they only did well in groups of 8 or larger. I had 4 and they all died off.
