    We are in our late sixties and early seventies. We have planted tens of thousands of various pines on our property. All and any cones open up. It just takes time. They have to open up for the seed to come out. It's simply God's ways for replenishing the forests.

    My neighbor constantly asks for my newspaper for his starter. This would make a nice gift basket.

    I have been using Pine Cones as weed suppressants in my between my Herbs and also. spray painted some of them silver to hang on an outside Christmas Tree. Now, I see another use. I'd use Jute String on mine though, it takes a light very nicely. Thank you for sharing,

      Great idea using Jute instead of the regular string. When I tie on the decorative tags I use Jute for the rustic appearance, but I never considered how well it burned. Thanks for the suggestion!

    I would never burn these , they are so pretty
    Here where I live we have only regular spruce and pine with smaller and less pretty cones

    This looks like a very doable project for our senior church members to do. Could you add a bit of flitter to the cones after the final dipping?

    Lightly dipped in old candles burnt. They burn for a good line time no string need over kill

    Is there in any odour when they burn? and what if any residue does it leave in the fire/chimney/flue?

    • @firewoodforlife
      @firewoodforlife  4 года назад +3

      I've never noticed an odor when they burn. If anything I'd say it's similar to a candle. The paraffin wax is clean burning so I don't have any issues with a residue buildup. The residue they leave behind is a small puddle of wax on the bottom of your fireplace/wood stove as they burn but that goes away as they burn up.

    Can I use these to start charcoal for my grill!

    • @firewoodforlife
      @firewoodforlife  3 года назад

      It would depend on what type of wax you used. If you're using an old candle with added scents and coloring, I don't think I would cook over it. However, if you're using wax with no additives it would be fine.

    Great idea! Can we use it just like a candle or only Firestarter?

    • @faithstr
      @faithstr 3 года назад

      Pinecone fire starters are used to start fires in fire pits/fire places and are not intended to be used as a candle.

      I believe they were old candles in the video but I’ve also used paraffin wax with a wax dye for color.

      Easier to light and they burn longer as opposed to a normal pinecone.

    So nice job. Are you just starting the channel and creating do it yourself stuff on video? Aren't you afraid you will not have enough things to talk about? It seems it would be a limited amount of information just in firewood. Great to have you here and showing us creative and inventive stuff on firewood. Oh I'm making the fire wood rack today. Got my materials. Left you a message about raising the rails off the ground...Let me know what you think.
