    Well done Andy and Scott on completing the WHW at such a pace, an impressive physical achievement! It would be good to see a follow up video on your gear choices and what worked well / what didn’t work well. I remember the hard track over Rannoch Moor well and the seemingly endless descent to Kinlochleven - those sections were tough on the feet! Atb, Andrew

    • @AndrewBeavers
      @AndrewBeavers  2 месяца назад

      yeah some tough sections those military roads are like nothing ive ever walked on..a case of mind over matter there though & the scenery helped a lot.

    Really really well done, good mileage.
    I did the WHW in April 2008 (snowed twice), and it turned out to be the beginning of a LEJOG in sections which I finally completed in May 2024 - many other trips in between I hasten to add! Plus shin splints last year (a few years older, more stretching required, lessons learned), and the little matter of lockdown 3 days into the Pennine Way…
    Best of luck with your future adventures.

  • @lucybailey6802
    @lucybailey6802 3 месяца назад +6

    Andy, I salute you!
    What an adventure the WHW is. Glad you enjoyed it. I couldn’t hike it in 3 days 😂. You did brilliantly.
    Watching your hike brought back some cracking memories for me from my adventure 2 years ago. At Kinlochlevan I sat on that very same bench. You were extremely lucky with the weather. It hammered it down every day when I did it 🤣. I had an amazing time though and loved every minute even though my feet absolutely killed. That drove road proper messed my feet up and the descent into Kinlochlevan was a slow and painful affair. I don’t think anyone fully appreciates how tough going the WHW is just for that very reason.
    Anyway Andy, a cracking video! I’ve really enjoyed watching. Thankyou. 😁

    • @AndrewBeavers
      @AndrewBeavers  2 месяца назад +1

      thanks lucy yeah i remember you doing it & the weather you had..you cant fully appreciate how tough the route is in places without doing it & those that go into it unprepared are in for a shock no matter how many days you do it in.

    • @lucybailey6802
      @lucybailey6802 2 месяца назад

      @@AndrewBeavers That is definitely true Andy. There were a lot that packed it in around Kings House and as I stood watching from the drove road, I saw them jump straight on the first bus back to Glasgow 😂.
      I have since purchased better footwear now and on the Pennine Way last year on similar terrain, I had no issues at all. I hope it’s the same on my final 100 mile stretch next week.
      I really liked your choice of camp spot on your first night. I had a long rest stop there after that slog along Loch Lomond after Inversnaid. I was booked into the camp site at Beinglass so couldn’t camp there. I also enjoyed Doune Byre Bothy too for another rest stop and had a laugh with a soldier I met in there. It’s a fabulous trail. I may have to go back in a few years. 🙂

    Not sure you can fully enjoy the WHW in 3 days. Seems more like you wanted a race, rather than a ramble, but each to their own.

      that all depends what you want out of it.
      some people like a challenge and want to push their mental and physical limits.
      why do people do ultras and FKTs?
      this is the second time i've done it, first time was 3.5 days and i'll probably do it again even quicker. loved every minute of it too, even when i've had to dig deep, some people like type 2 fun.
      i've seen people do thru hikes like pub crawls, having to get beer & food at every stop getting fatter and more unfit by the the mile, my idea of absolute hell.
      hike your own hike.

      Hence my words each to their own.
      I watch Andy's videos all the time and from my recollection he enjoys the walks as much as the wildcamping, so this speed march seems completly at odds to what i usually expect from him, on what is probably one of the best long distance multi day hikes in the UK.
      For me personally, a 3 day speed march misses the whole point of doing the WHW and what it has to offer. If Andy set himself the challenge of completing it in the shortest time possible, then fair play.

      @@markwilson9668 Just because someone does something different than what they normally do, or different than someone else would choose to do doesn't mean it would be less enjoyable.
      If you're getting out of it what you wanted, that's all that matters.
      Just the same as I can't understand why people would want to pub crawl it over 7-10 days...how boring.

      I see you have commented similiarly on others comments who have asked, why the rush?
      No one is criticising, just asking an obvious question.

      @@markwilson9668 Yeah.
      There just seems to be a lot of people questioning the timing when it isn't really relevant.
      People hike their own hike, for their own reason, it should even come into question.

    Not taking anything away from your achievement Andy,but three days you certainly pushed yourself,but would you have enjoyed it better if you did it over say six ? But then I remembered you work as well,ATB

      wouldnt have enjoyed it as much over 6 days tbh thats just my opinion..i love to hike & to challenge myself & this hike gave me both..i saw & enjoyed the scenery just as much over 3 as you would 6 or 7..makes me laugh folk that say you must not have seen anything like i hiked it with my eyes shut.

      rush?? no rush just a well paced out hike & a great challenge..good to challenge our selves no!!
      my actual pacing stats were actually lower than my usual so this notion we raced round it is nonsense..
