Thanks. I had to stop 40 years ago, and finally can get back to the fun. This helps bring back the basics. MUCH appreciated.

Cool. Thank you Alam. I know sitar taraf but never sarod. always lived in the Bay Area and we were so lucky to have the College. went there in 1972. Got to pick out, purchase a beautiful Hemen sitar. Still got it in a crowded instrument loft but it hasn't been touched in a few years or restrung in decades so I strummed the strings and blew my mind. It was in tune and great sound.
    Hemen #409 lives on.
Back to the College in 72', there was a evening feast for Baba's birthday, and oh man, I was thrilled to be there. Didn't know a soul but felt like I was right where I was supposed to be. Walking thru the doorway I past gentlemen in intense conversation. It really took me a half minute to recognize Alla Rakha and they weren't talking! It was bols! He's still my hero and that year his son taught us out on the lawn because is was a sunny day.

This is much appreciated as I have been searching for online tutorials on Sarod playing techniques for quite some time. Going forward please consider providing some basic lessons on how to play the Sarod. This would greatly help in introducing this amazing instrument to the world.

I have always wanted to learn this particular instrument ever since I was a young boy but in my small city there wasn't enough market for Eastern ers to come here so I didn't get to learn my childhood dream instrument. But this video makes it look so easy, I want one.

Thank you Alam. How does one tune an Amjad Ali Khan style sarod? I've just picked up one and the scale is shorter than the Ali Akbar Khan style sarod I have. Should I tune it to a B (half a step down from the C you show in your video)? Thanks in advance.

What kind of tuning pegs are these sympathetic strings? Are they mechanical?
Any link where to get those

Thank you for the nice lesson on tuning Sarod. If one wants to perform in a scale other than C, let us say A, what should one do? Transpose the notes or can the Sarod be turned for that key?

I have lowered my tuning to an A Sa- Alam has said that he didn’t like it so low-but I very much do. It’s been years now.
I did it to match a local hand pan player. Recordings can have their pitch changes with Apps -and so you can use apps to play along with, and learn.
Of course the college has lessons, and the are in C Sa

What if my sarod has only 19 strings? Would the tuning method be the same? I haven't found any tuning tutorials for 19-string sarods anywhere online which has been frustrating because I really want to put strings on mine and tune it so I can play it.
