Oh boy. You definitely picked the wrong time of year to head NE... for everyone is hitting the roads & it's notoriously humid when hot. Unless you are ON the coast... you're going to bolt when it's hot. Unless there's a storm, then you'll need your heater! Even Maine coastal towns in summer have a lot more folks (seems empty to me!) They do call it the Megolpolis for a reason. DC to Boston. The hunt for solitude this summer will be difficult out there. Best of luck, my dear! ❤️ From Cape Cod
Amber: You were about 8 minutes away from my house when you went to the UPS store in Virginia. That's so crazy. I recognized it right away. They didn't even know they had a super-popular RUclipsr in their store. Cheers and safe travels.
Would you or have ypu done a video on receiving mail and packages on the road . I've learned alot preparing for my new adventure soon .but the mail thing haven't seen much info on that . Travel safe ! I'll host u in Mt.sterling ky !! 🥰🥰😍😍😍
The East coast is definitely a challenge but the beauty and Historical aspect of it makes it well worth that challenge! So much to see and do, I love living here. Thanks for braving it out to show all the wonderful east! Keep chasing Amber!
Can’t wait to see your videos on your Maine portion of this east coast trip. Sorry for the hot and humid weather....this never happens in June. We were experiencing August weather way too soon But today, June 10 is a beautiful Maine day, cooler weather is here!
You seem to look happy on the road. I understand that feeling because since I have been retiring from government work I also have a lot of time to plan solo trips with my small RV. I don't make videos just "tons" of pictures. When I compare It is so beautiful in your country, but it seems to me that our coast and the clear Adriatic Sea are a little more beautiful with natural beaches. All in all it is a common globe. Greetings from afar. Split town, Croatia state in EU.
The northern east coast is certainly beautiful and flavored by history of times past. I so enjoy you taking us on a virtual vacation I would never have seen. Thank you Amber.
Cape Cod and Maine are some of my favorite spots to explore along the East Coast. The best is yet to come. Sending good vibes your way in hopes the weather is kind and crowds are small...
The best thing about RV life: Your home has wheels. If you don’t like where you are at, you can move! Go where you feel good, relaxed and at peace! ☮️ Enjoy the journey and live your best life!!! ❤️❤️❤️ Great video Amber!
I'm from Massachusetts. I'm an empath too and one of the reasons I'm sooooo looking forward to going fulltime in my van! There's way too many people in New England for me! It's truly a gorgeous area and I'm so sorry see you missing so many of the places! I was also sad to see you drive through Maryland. Truly an amazing place♡ safe travels!! Maybe do the east coast in the fall (or even spring) next time. You'll get better weather and the foliage.
It’s so nice to watch you because most of the time you are very happy and you explain things very well. I am just studying places to go because I bought my Mercedes sprinter B+ not quite two years ago. The longest trip so far I’ve taken with it is Zion and Bryce Canyon. It turned out really well and I’m getting braver with each trip. Aloha
Aww! Glad you got your card! I’m on an adventure too- in the first 10 days of my going west from Alabama trek, had a flat tire at the highest point in Alabama. That was followed by a check engine light, ABS and ESP lights-- so on to Memphis to get wheel speed sensors replaced -- apparently there’s a known issue with this sprinter chassis! That led me to the quietest and one of the prettiest state parks in northeast Arkansas! Enjoying exploring the ozarks as my westward journey continues. Loved this catch up video. Be happy and be flexible 😋
Do you have jet engines on that van? lol You are flying up the coast. I think you would’ve been chasing spring weather up the coast if you started a mth earlier. Can’t believe you drove through NYC! I’m impressed! Enjoy the cooler weather & hope you & sweet Lily have lots of fun!
When I was travelling to/from NH to work from Philly, I take what I call the "CT Bypass Route" - Thruway all the way up to Albany and take the MassTP across MA. A fair bit longer drive, but an oh so much less stressful. In my old age (50), I've decided I'm willing to trade driving time for an easier or more pleasant drive. A few times I'd get off the MATP and take back roads across MA.
I live in RI…and have family in NJ. Definitely don’t EVER go thru NYC again…as the other two folks said, follow their advice. If you are heading south from NH, target the Tappan Zee Bridge, then map your way west. You’ll avoid NYC that way.
We are from MA and it is lovely very crowded. We have a sailboat and this season we have noticed may more people on the water, looking for moorings and anchorages. Just a guess but we feel it is a post covid thing. With so many people vaccinated in our state and wanting to get back to normal and get out of the house ,lol , everyone is heading to the Cape where we keep our boat. Hope you have a nice time in New England. BTW love Lily’s coat, so well dressed , makes me feel like I need to up my game:)! Happy travels to you both.
I drove through NY(not NYC) and never paid a toll. I drove US Hwy 20, US Hwy 2 and NY State Route 30. I've driven all of US Hwy 2. Gorgeous. US Hwy 2 will take you from Bar Harbor Maine to the NY line at Rouses Point going through New Hampshire, Vermont, Lake Champlain, many beautiful areas. I drove US Hwy 20 from Perrysburg Ohio to Albany NY and hopped on NY 30. Lake Placid, Saranac Lake are gorgeous areas to visit. Weather is nice too.
In New England the weather saying is "if you do not like the weather, wait a minute it will change". I have had the heat on in the morning and a/c at noon time in June.
Boston area here completely agree you don't like the weather will change what was that about a month ago we had to use both air conditioners and heaters in the same week. Oh well
I hope you give the east coast another chance. The closer to the coast, the more you feel the breeze. Fall is the best time for lower temps and humidity. Spring is good, but there is always the chance for snow. I hope you get a chance to do DC. it is remarkable and packed with history. Word of warning: the more you stay in the east, the more you will be saying "Shawshank ". Rock wall fences are everywhere around here.
May I suggest you get a hotel room when you are in urban areas and not able to find a rest spot? Relax, take a bath, watch tv, plot your route and find camping spots.
Made me nervous just seeing you drive up to through New York. My worst nightmare. PS. I did get my sticker. Thank you and please be safe and take your time.
Got my sticker! Love it! You found some beautiful spots in RI. My company has a site there in Cranston. I've visited once but didn't get to explore. Next time I will definitely do some exploring.
Amber, OK, this may be a bit off topic of van life....I would like to see you walk us through your awesome ball caps and how you collected them. They are all so pretty. I've not seen anything like them. I cut my hair short and ditched the dye so now I look great in ball caps. I look for unique one like yours and cannot find any that are as beautiful.
Thanks Amber for that video. It really gives us an understanding of how day to day life is for you and all the decisions you have to make just to find a place to sleep! Be safe in your travels and enjoy New England. ❤️
You're a brave soul..all that driving in NY..all the road confusion..that's what stresses me out😜 But RI is a beautiful place....enjoy! Thanks for bringing us along!👍🥰
Awwwh- you kept going! (past Delaware 😥) I hope that you try I-287New York/New Jersey back! It's easier going through and it's beautiful!🌄 I know, right! The buildings are so adorable!🏡🏢🏤🏦🏨🏫🏪🏬 Oh, I've got to see that movie! Your timing was perfect with the wedding💐 and the scenic area! 🌅 Lily seemed to have had a nice time, also!🐕 She was so excited in eating her food in her bowl, that some of her food got kicked out!🤭 It has been raining a lot this week.☔ Well, you're certainly out of the heat!😂Guys take care/ stay safe!🥰
I went back east 2 summers ago for a family reunion. Beautiful, but I couldn't wait to be out west again. The east has tight roads, small parking lots, lots of traffic, no boondocking, and high humidity. The west is the best!
I’m amazed that you could find anywhere to park around Newport. Sadly, a lot of ocean access there is private and behind a wall. If in the future you want to avoid NYC while driving from the south to New England, take rt 81 in the DC area to rt 84. It’s the truck route, and you avoid a lot of city craziness. I’m with you about recharging in nature. Here in Massachusetts we just ended a heat wave, so I’m guessing that you were here pre heat wave 🙂
That is a bummer that you had some places in mind that Mother Nature crossed off your list. But don’t feel bad, I’m sure that you’ll be back again someday when it’s right. You and Lily just do you and Lily. Also, the sound of the water was 🥰. Happy Story Chasing! 👍🚐🐾
Oooooh the crispy weather looks great-esp since I’m in AZ right now facing 115 • enjoy it! Lovely by the water. It’s amazing how you can just leave not knowing where you are spending the nite-this seems scary for me
Amber I'm still in Alabama saving for a van. It's so miserable with 87+ heat and friggin 98% humidity. If I get out of here before I die I'll NEVER come back. Im just miserable but will be glad when I can turn the keys and go to pleasant weather❤
Hey...yes, I'm Southern... lol....I follow you on you tube and really enjoy it...Also, I wanted to tell you I read the article in HEALTH...loved it! I bought a 2021 Promaster in March and am having it converted to a camper van.....enjoying your adventures! Gloria
Sounds a bit like Alaska....weather is always unpredictable. I'm on the west coast of Canada and the saying is to wait for ten minutes and the weather will change again. June is Junuary. Too bad but weather is weather. We are going camping in our pleasureway van for a week near us on Vancouver Island and it is cloudy windy rainy sunny all in a day. Wish us all luck.
That wall totally reminded me of the one in the SSR, too!! What a great movie. So glad you and snuggle bug Lily 💗 made it safely to NE. Enjoy your new adventures! 😊
It is a shame your timing on the east coast hit the dead of summer. Spring (April and May) and fall (mid-September thru end of October are beautiful in the mid-Atlantic with mild temps. Fall foliage especially is incredible. We were camping in the mountains of southern PA last weekend. Temps in the mountains were in the lower 80s with night time temps in the 60s. Maybe if your plans call for heading back down on your way to the west coast you will be able to experience those areas. There are also beautiful areas in Asheville NC, Kentucky and the Smokey mountains in Tennessee. Enjoy the north coast though - Maine is gorgeous traveling up via Route 1 from town to town. Be sure to stop and see Booth Bay. Thanks for sharing your travels.
Great video!! Im in CT .....born & raised in New York...... LOVE Maine, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire & Vermont.... the East Coast is busy, but there are many quiet, open areas that are sooooo charming!!! And I could eat sushi every day too, delish!!! Enjoy.... stay safe 🙏
I used to travel from my home near Philly to Portsmouth, NH for work on a regular basis. I used to cross the GWB often and it is definitely a challenging bridge if you aren't familiar with it. 35 MPH speed limit and the locals do 70+ (I did the crossing so many times, I drove like a local). I would take the Deegan/I-78 to the Cross-County to the Hutchinson Parkway to the Merritt Parkway into CT. If you drove up I-95 through Philly, you passed within a few hundred feet of me. While I have no personal experience, I have read finding boondocking parking in New England is challenging. Happy Birthday!
I lived in PA for 4 years and did my share of exploring the east coast. Unfortinately the tolls where so darn expensive it really limited me. They add up fast. I totally get why you had to bypass a lot of things on the east coast to get to cooler temps. Travel is so different for those of us with dogs. I left Arizona a month earlier than planned because my AC in my place could not keep up with the 100 degree days and 90 degree nights. My dogs were miserable (as was I) but I could have probably tolerated it however my pups could not so I left. Everything I do now pretty much revolves around my dogs. So, we might miss out on a few things but our furry companions make the journey more enjoyable so thats the sacrifice we make. Thanks for todays videos. Its bringing back happy memories of my life on the east coast. I loved in the most adorable town in the universe Lititz Pennsylvania smack dab in the middle of Amish country and I absolutely loved that place and miss it so much. Thanks Amber for showing us “ vanlife wannabees how its done” I am getting closer to jumping into it and you are the perfect person to hold my hand and calm me down…lol
As always Amber thanks for keeping it real. Things definitely change with the weather and #1 rule imho is to be flexible. I think the fall weather is best to tour the east and you sure can’t beat the colors. Yes it’s a bit cool but not like winter can be. I was in the east October-early December 2020. Weather was mostly great but at one point it rained and there were strong winds 3 days straight. Thankfully I had a great urban spot and was able to hunker down through it. Stay safe and healthy and happy travels always 🐶🚐❤️
Amber. Where is some good boondocking by Salida Colorado. I was checking out some places yesterday, but it was mostly 4 wheel drive. Ok for my truck but not a trailer not Van. My friend Jan had her Travato raised 3 inches but probably not enough.
Stickers are nice, but I want a Story Chasing baseball cap. I think that would spark as much conversation as my cap Well Red with a pic of red wine and book.
Oh it's published! Sorry you are getting such crazy weather, but as you said, you just never know what's going to happen on the road. Enjoy your travels, I know I do, Thank you for sharing!
Great video Amber! Coming from Colorado I’m super intimidated to take the Hymer to the east coast so I appreciate watching how you navigate it! Are you going to explore Vermont? I’ve only been there once but it was beautiful!
I am an empath too. It is better when you have some breaks between visits with people. I like to get up early so I can have time to emotionally relax a bit.
Glad you made it through NYC safely. I'm from New York but left there when I was a teen. Been back a couple times driving, and it was crazy. I love seeing the NYC sights, but next time I plan to go the northern route through Western New York and into Massachusetts that way. Upstate New York is beautiful ❤️
A couple of things to remember: * Don't drive through tunnels with propane tanks on board. Espcially ones going under water, like the Holland and Baltimore tunnels, where the pressure in the tank increases as you go deeper. * Only cars are allowed on roads designated as "parkways" (eg, New Jersey and Merritt). Especially the Merritt where there are low bridges. Just words to the wise -- use alternate routes....
Love seeing your stay in Newport! I loved it there. I also loved Shawshank and l live in Ohio about an hour and a half from the old Mansfield Reformatory where they filmed some of the movie. The tour is a bit creepy, but really fascinating! There is also a drive-it-yourself tour of the different sites where they filmed. If you and Lily are in Ohio, come and stay in my driveway and we can go there!
I love seeing my van when I'm away from her. I grew up in Va Beach. I agree with Sabrina in you should definitely do the East Coast in the Spring or Fall. Those backcountry roads are breathtaking at that time of year. Thank you for another good video
OMG! You are in my hometown of Jamestown, RI! You drove right by my dad’s house on the way to Beavertail!! So many stone fences because they cleared the fields for farmland in the 1700’s. Fun Fact: Benedict Arnold’s family owned farmland on the island prior to the Revolution. Hope you are able to return to Jamestown! Jimmy Buffet and James Taylor have homes on Jamestown. 💜
Heeeyy Amber!!! Shawshank Redemption is my #1 Favorite movie as well😊. I'm catching up on your videos and almost to your current video which SUCKS because I love binge watching.....Your favorite #DallasLadyTrucker 😁🚚🚚🚚🚚🚚🚚🚚
Hi Amber! You should have waited to get to Maine to get your EZPASS ~ it's only $10.00 in Maine. I just bought one lol So, I took the highways and by-ways up the East Coast and went AROUND NYC ~ I loathe driving in NYC! It really was the best and most relaxing ride I've ever taken up the East Coast from Florida to Maine ~ try it next time :)
We love your white wall board. It's big enough to make a good list but small enough to not overload. How do plan for toll cost? Are you using app? We've used Info Talk Toll. Lou & Angie
New York City is the reason I've never driven the East coast! And I had Grandparents in NJ thatvwe visited multiple times a year when I was a kid! I've even navigated for other drivers there! Driving between my two favorite places means going through NYC and DC though!
A friendly fyi: you really don't. Get a real map, or just zoom out on Google maps and you'll see that there are plenty of ways to avoid driving through these cities and still get up the east coast.
@@2cats4tea79 I've done plenty of map reading, thanks. Google is convenient but not really my cup of tea. (I wind up arguing with a computer. Going around would make my trip a whole lot longer. Plus technically I'm familiar right down to where it gets crazy. I just really don't like driving that area. Heading west makes no sense timewise but Boston isn't better.
I would love to move to NC where my sister and nephews live but I know I would be miserable in the heat and humidity for at least half the year. So I remain in the high desert of NM and just visit during their nicer weather. We gotta go where we can be happy and when you`re living out of a van...yeah, move on to somewhere better. Worth it to travel on the east coast for a summer, but you will be so happy to get back to the West!
I looked to see if anyone mentioned this and could have missed it, but: you didn't have to take the GW Bridge and drive through NYC. Instead of staying on 95, aka the NJ Turnpike, you can get on the Garden State Parkway (Exit 11), go all the way to the end (Exit 172) and take 287 to the Cuomo Bridge (replaced the Tappan Zee) and from there get back on 95N (there are at least two routes to rejoin 95N and your GPS will pick the one with the least traffic). Keep in mind for next time!
I've always heard about difficulty finding overnight parking on east coast. I'll never go there for camping. But I've flown into almost every state; just haven't explored by road. Too bad.
Yeah-at Geo Washington bridge head for the top road thru. They don.t want LP Gas in the tunnel...,.but u are prob good on either road. I pick a truck and follow them thru.
My home state!! Love that you came through. I agree with what another viewer posted about trying to come back. There is so much to see!!
Hope all is well....
I hope so also. Concerned.
Hi Amber hope all is well. Missed ur daily videos!

You made it through NY👏👏👏. It’s only going to get better!

Wineries galore in the East with Harvest Host. Golf courses too!
Have fun and take care and take it easy and enjoy it
Would you or have ypu done a video on receiving mail and packages on the road .
Thanks for another day of virtual travel. 😎💓
love your channel, grateful for your videos, hope you and Lily are okay! :)
bay bridge tunnel is really a nice ride
Can’t wait to see your videos on your Maine portion of this east coast trip. Sorry for the hot and humid weather....this never happens in June. We were experiencing August weather way too soon

I'm in the Boston area you lucked out the beginning of last week was hot as hell here up until Thursday
I am so excited to see you at the Ocean Drive in my Hometown, Newport!!!

next time take gs pkwy to 287 north, then hit 87 north ny thruway to int 84, take that east, bypasses the traffic around NYC

57F today on the Maine Coast! Should have stopped to boondock with me.
Rhode Island is worth a month. Try and go back. You haven't see it all. Try Bristol. BTW... the weather is crazy EVERYWHERE! EVERYWHERE.
Love love Newport,,,,and RI has become my new fave,,,, ❣️
Narragansett is beautiful as well ♥️
It is a shame your timing on the east coast hit the dead of summer.
You were in my neck of the woods 😁👍 I could have given you some choices
Parking is hard to find in New England. I've found using Park & Ride lots a good option - not pretty but free!
I agree. Most people don't know about the park n rides.
Hope u enjoyed ur quick stay here in Va Beach
Oh my dream trip up the East Coast but that driving and the number of people leaves my head spinning.
Wow you went right by me! I live in Virginia Beach! And my son lives in NC close to the outer banks! Wish I knew you we're that close!
The key word is comfort, it is the main driver.🚚🚝🌵
Oh it's published! Sorry you are getting such crazy weather, but as you said, you just never know what's going to happen on the road. Enjoy your travels, I know I do, Thank you for sharing!
Great video Amber! Coming from Colorado I’m super intimidated to take the Hymer to the east coast so I appreciate watching how you navigate it! Are you going to explore Vermont? I’ve only been there once but it was beautiful!
Newport ! One of my favorite places. The White Horse Tavern! It is 62 right now in Kennebunkport :-)
I am an empath too. It is better when you have some breaks between visits with people. I like to get up early so I can have time to emotionally relax a bit.
Hi Amber when u were in Jamestown RI did u have WiFi and where did u over nite?
Glad you made it through NYC safely. I'm from New York but left there when I was a teen. Been back a couple times driving, and it was crazy. I love seeing the NYC sights, but next time I plan to go the northern route through Western New York and into Massachusetts that way. Upstate New York is beautiful ❤️
A couple of things to remember:
* Don't drive through tunnels with propane tanks on board.
Happy belated Birthday!
It has been ages since I saw Shawshank, I really don’t remember details. Think it is totally fine to reveal the ending of a movie from the ‘90s!
Thinking about you Amber. I hope you and Lilly are ok ❤️
FYI; Severe rain storms last week caused 1st time road closures in Arcadia Nat'l Park. You might want to view the website before arriving.
Maine should be good for turning down the Energy! Go beyond the first couple towns by the shore though.
Happy belated Birthday
I love seeing my van when I'm away from her. I grew up in Va Beach. I agree with Sabrina in you should definitely do the East Coast in the Spring or Fall. Those backcountry roads are breathtaking at that time of year. Thank you for another good video
good choice on 11-22
Welcome to my neck of the woods.
Hey, now that you are here in New England, slip your sandals OFF & soak your feet in salt water!
God bless you in your travels!
Too bad.
That windmill was built a year before the First Fleet arrived in Sydney, Australia.
How do you get mail while you’re traveling?
Yeah-at Geo Washington bridge head for the top road thru. They don.t want LP Gas in the tunnel...,.but u are prob good on either road. I pick a truck and follow them thru.
